They are fun but football is too complicated. I still don't know all of the positions, formations, schemes, penalties, etc and iv spent my whole life in the only place that gives a shit about it.

Nba 2k best sports franchise imo. Either that or Super Mega Baseball

i learned american football by playing tecmo super bowl

it still kinda has a cult following to this day -- people make yearly updated roster ROMs

I doubt it. If anything I would think the revenue those football programs generate probably gets kicked back to the university in part.

There's a modestly sized college town in my state that has a 100,000 person capacity stadium just because it's football team is so popular. Those programs bring in a ton of money

It brings a ton of money, but the coaches are also the most payed employee in those colleges.

It depends on the college and program. It's a ton of revenue but they also spend a shitload on stadiums, equipment, etc.

For most places they probably do bring in more than they spend on it, but creative accounting has made it impossible to really know.

Also, where they get that money from is mostly from alumni of the college. So it's a little circular.

I don't think they would spend money on that stuff if it wasn't turning a profit. They have all or most of the same revenue streams that the nfl has like tickets/merch/network deals AND they don't have to pay the players. They gotta be making cash hand over fist imo

I would be 100% not at all surprised if some of the schools were losing money on it but justified it as marketing.

Also, I would be very unsurprised if it turned out that some schools didn't actually even know how much they spent/made on them.

Most schools are definitely making a profit, but I wouldn't be surprised if the very top or very bottom schools were losing money (my college had a football team and I remember thinking "why?" because they were godawful and had been since inception).
