I really like him and want to get better with him. Morphling is a hard carry that is generally harder to play than other carries because: - All of his skills are actives. - Microing your replicate optimally needs experience. - You have to find the right balance between Str/Agi and be able to quickly morph them whenever needed. - Has no fixed skill build you can follow every time, your skill build will differ from game to game depending on line-ups, lanes are your team's current situation in the game. - Low range/base damage/MS and armour. What makes this hero very fun to play is that his concept is very unique compared to other carries. Skills: His wave has 3 main uses. You can easily join and escape fights whilst being invulnerable in his waveform. It's a very good farming tool, you should be able to clear an entire creep wave by hitting the melee creeps a couple of times and then waveforming into them (this uses too much mana but a Perseverance/RoB should do the trick). Lastly its a heavy AoE nuke, use it to get kills. Adaptive Strike is a very deadly late game nuke, interrupts channeling and stuns the enemy for quite a long time if you have your Agi morphed to Str. Agi ---> Str morph along with a Linken's Sphere or a BKB will make you very hard to take down even if you are being focused by 5 enemies. A not too excessive Str ---> Agi morph should be used during the late game for massive attack speed, damage, armour and a stronger Adaptive Strike. Replicate allows him to clone tanky opponents like a Spectre with a radiance and give his team a free immolation or useful auras like Assault Curaiss/clone enemies with orb effects to use them against them like AM/Brood Mother. Also it is very important for juking, mindgames, distraction, escape, chasing and baiting enemies into thinking that the clone is an actual ally from your team. Items: Most of the times you would want to start out with 4 Branches / 2 Tangos / Ring of Protection. If solo mid, I would suggest that you get a Salve instead of the Tangos and then go for a Bottle. A Basilius, Magic Wand, Boots and Perseverance is what I would aim for during the early laning phase. Which Boots? Boots of Travel is the best choice, but it is not the best by too much. They give you loads of map control and farming power and allow you to do some gimmicky stuff when used with your Ultimate (like sending your clone to one lane and travelling to another lane to farm that lane and then morphing back to your clone to farm the other lane, or if you are low on HP/MP replicate someone then port back to your fountain and after regenerating morph back to the replica, etc...). Power Treads is the second best choice. You would want to get these if you are dying too much, your team is at a bad position, there are dangerous fights coming ahead, etc... Make sure you switch between Agi and Str depending on what you need in your current situation. Mid-game Items: Linken's vs. BKB - The +Stats/Regen/Spell Block make Linken's a very nice item but sometimes it isn't enough to survive so BKB would be a better choice. If you're having an easy game go for a farm fest with Linken's + BoT. But most of all, use your judgement on what to get. Manta Style - This item is probably the best item if you want to win team fights, gives good DPS/attack speed/movement speed can also be used to dodge spells/remove silences/confuse the enemy. Late-game Items: Butterfly - Evasion/DPS/Agi/attack speed this item is too good to be true, nothing else to add. Heart - Ultimate tanking item. Gives good regen when out of combat. Increases your HP a lot so you'll be able to morph more Str ---> Agi. Satanic - Get this if you have way too much DPS through auto-attacks for some heavy lifesteal. Outside the lifesteal it gives decent armour/damage/Str but imo the item is too expensive for what it offers. Other Items to consider: If you are feeling really gimmicky get an Ethereal Blade - It gives lots of Agi and a shotgun effect which will kill almost any support/non-carry/non-tank hero late game when used with Waveform + Adaptive Strike. PMS/Wraith Band - Get them if you are having a difficult time in your side lane. Diffusal Blade - Gives good +Stats/Feedback and a Purge which you can use to slow enemies and remove some buffs/debuffs. Remember that ranged illusions don't have any effect from Feedback. Skadi - Gives good +Stats and decent HP/MP, you'll mainly get it for its slow. Remember that Skadi + lifesteal stack together when ranged. MKB - Consider getting this if the enemy carry has a Butterfly. Gives good damage/attack speed/mini-stun effect/no miss chance. Some other useful tips: - Max Morph after Waveform when susceptible to lots of ganks. A few points in attributes help early on. Adaptive Strike scales better during late-game so there is no point in skilling it more than once early on (skill it once early on to interrupt channeling). - Turn off RoB when farming/laning, turn it on when pushing. - If you are having a difficult time last hitting and your lane isn't dangerous at the same time, don't be afraid to morph some Str ---> Agi. - If you get ganked don't panic, every single spell you have is an escape tool. You can also morph Agi ---> Str while stunned! - Try to dodge spells/projectiles as much as you can with Waveform. - The best feature that many people don't seem to be aware of is that you can attack/use items/use spells while in Waveform. So please always do an auto-attack on the enemy while Waveforming. This in itself makes you win more solo lanes as a Morphling than you really should. Yes, you can Waveform ---> auto-attack ---> Ether Blast ---> Adaptive Strike all together while still in Waveform. (Yes, this one deserves Bold/Italic/Underlined) My thoughts on Morphling buffs in 6.73: +5 Agi! This is really good especially for the laning phase. Adaptive Strike CD reduced from 20 ---> 10 seconds, you can now use it at least twice in a fight yay! Linken's Sphere +10 damage finally! No longer triggered by Medallion/Urn. A lot of people stopped considering getting Linken's for Dusa/Morph when it was triggered by Medallion/Urn finally this is no longer the case. Butterfly evasion increased from 30% ---> 35% Ethereal Blade's Ether Blast cast range increased from 700 to 800, really small buff but hey every little bit helps. BoT now cost 2000 instead of 2200 and give 100 +MS instead of 95. I think this is a huge buff, it just encourages you to get this item more and helps your low base MS (285) even more. The new item Ring of Aquila is very useful, it helps you save an inventory slot when getting a Wraith Band + RoB. Last words: This hero is difficult compared with other carries and probably the funnest one because he is quite challenging. Practice on your farming skills a lot if you want to excel with him. Try not to die a lot (you shouldn't be dying too much anyway). Tell your supports to help you whenever you need it. Use your brain. Play a lot with him, get experienced and most of all have fun. [1/5/2012] No Update Today There won't be an update today as we're still gearing back up after the holidays. Here are some highlights of next week's update for you too look forward to: - Parity with the latest Dota update. This includes Stable/Current version switching, so tournaments will be able to run older versions of the game until they are ready to make the switch. - Two Heroes will be making their return. One gets a real charge out of bashing heads. The other always has to get in the last word. - 64 Spectators limit removed. An unlimited number of spectators can watch any live game. http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=16068 | ||
