I just a really funny game. The other team had a riki + broodmother who was pretty fed and trying to carry, so naturally I (zeus) ended up buying the gem thing. We had a massive fight near roshan, and the gem was lost somewhere. Our team proceeds to spend the next 3 minutes after respawn combing through the forest trying to find the gem.

Lycan is basically the seen as part of the solution to the current "allinpush" meta It can solo or hybrid jungle and is almost impossible to completely shut down its a heavy pushing core that matures extremely quickly, u can grab roshan with just a vlads and you basically only need vlads bkb to be a completely destructive presence in teamfights or be essentially instagibbing towers if the other team leaves you alone. Its also a carry that facilitates pushing extremely well with the wolves and howl. Basically, this is what the Chinese meta moved on to after "allinpush" into the lycan/sylla 20 min timing, where you farm the core (vlads/bkb or radiance), grab roshan, and then just facesmash a rax.
This is seen as preferable to the current "allinpush" because lycan and sylla can generally outfarm and outcarry any hero given a 1 rax lane advantage and can formulate a coherent lategame even if the push fails to rax, instead of ohwehaventraxedin30min GG Why have I seen this exact post before? basic chinese dota 101

I'm kinda new to watching Dota (just through streams, no key yet) so I have a couple of noob questions. - Having played a lot of RTS (I'm on teamliquid, duh) an interesting part of the game is playing on different maps. How come the Dota (and LOL/HON?) communities have settled for this one and single map layout. Change is dangerous? I realize the newer games just copied Dota's original map, but how come the people behind wc3 Dota never launched multiple maps, with different lanes, jungles etc?
The thing is, changing to a new map with different lanes, different jungles, etc. wouldn't be the same thing as how SC2 changes maps. Even though you see a lot of maps in SC2, they still have the same general layout. A protected natural, a relatively easy to take 3rd, usually 2 or 4 starting positions, everything you'd expect in a balanced SC2 map. Changing DotA's map layout would feel similar to more drastic changes in an SC2 map, like say an island base with 6 gas starting at your main and no natural, huge changes like that, that would affect the game quite a lot more than minor changes in terrain but still a relatively similar map all-in-all to the rest. It COULD be done, but for the most part the community and competitive players would prefer just having the same map rather than having to work out different (probably drastically different) strategies for each map, banning heroes, picking heroes, deciding if trilaning, pushing, jungling, ganking, is more effective, it would be basically an entirely new game, not to mention some heroes might turn out to be too powerful and have to be nerfed because of it, and then in turn the strategies on the ORIGINAL map would change, the list goes on and on basically. :p
Not saying it 100% can't be done, I just think that DotA has been around for so long that most people are used to how it is now and would prefer it just stay this way. Especially considering how much the meta is changing still, now, after all these years, and risking a change like a new map and making competitive teams play on it might have the potential to just crap everything up if it doesn't turn out perfectly, since both the players and fans are so accustomed to what it is now, and a new map could potentially make an entirely new game that might not be for the best.
As for casual play, I wouldn't have a problem with some new maps though just for fun.

Somewhere I heard that dota2 is going to support custom games, so there is a possibility of someone porting twisted treeline or dominion from lol. Or even better, someone might make a GOOD other map.

LoL has a 5v5 map and a 3v3 map, and they play completely differently. Some heroes are just plain broken on the 3v3 map.
IMO the variation in dota comes from the huge combination of heroes. A game with furion in it is completely to a game without furion. Same can be said for a lot of heroes. A game with a strong pushing lineup is very different from a game with strong late game carries.
Starcraft need new maps to stay fresh, dota has enough variation within its hero lineup. Changing the maps would just complicate things.

by custom game i bet they mean pudge war and castle fight LOLOLOL... also Dday xD

I need more people to play with! This game gets boring fast solo queuing

They should just import LoD as a game mode to be honest.

Just bring my all time favorite map back into life. And thats no other than the 6v6 map!

i hope someone makes bob's omg dota
that was some of the most fun I've had playing DotA ever
was really sad when i reinstalled Warcraft 3 late last year and didn't see any ever hosted ;_;

Man I'm a huge fan of stats and graphs and shit, so I thought I'd love this hero performance graph thingy, but instead its just torturing me. I don't understand what the hell its judging me on, because everytime I think I'm going to see a big bar, its always way smaller than it should be imo, and then I have high rated things that I don't get. Today I played Bane for the first time since this has been implemented, and going 3-0-10 with 410 gpm warrants exactly 2 bars? And then I played Viper, went 18-1-3 with 300 cs in a 40 min game and had 600 gpm, that was only 2 1/2 bars, while my terrible terrible AA game netted me 3 bars... I don't get it!!!

Thanks everyone for replying. Still waiting to see a few of those heroes picked!

What's the premise of LoD (what does the acronym even stand for?). I didn't play much Dota 1...

I would love new dota maps. But they didn't they say they would implement some new ones? Imo they don't need to be competitive just a little bit different 5v5 map
