i was initially buying into this whole 'rune system', but i had thought this whole time you had to find the runes. instead everything is automatically unlocked for you at different levels. the skills themselves dont even level, or have synergies? its so ridiculously plain.

Why would they even implement this at all? im confused =( So you can choose where you want to start from? So you can "hey I wanna farm that boss not that other one. "

I think the logic behind this move was to make gear even more important. Different gear for different skill sets.

It encourages and rewards tacky gameplay and needlessly makes the game more irritating to play.

I know right?. Just compare this to D2. WHen i first realized that the skills wont lvl or u have everything autolocked for u i tought its a joke, then i said ok its beta so its fine....But no my friend, this is the game uve been waiting for looong time. I feel like blizz is making games theese days for 6ye olds or 18-49 with serious mental disfunction. Not sure wich. Positive:the environment looks amazing.

I believe the reasoning behind the simplified skill system in D3 is because it was actually just as simple in D2, only it had more buttons. The amount of skills you actually used in D2 was extremely limited, and I think I've already seen more diversity on my lvl 9 Wizard than I did on my lvl 90 orbsorc. In the end the large majority of people used the most efficient build anyway, either by themselves or because they read it on a website. Finding the best build for your playstyle really wasn't any more difficult than a 6 year old could accomplish. Basically, yes they're simplifying it but mostly just the things that were redundant anyway.

I kinda prefer this system over the one D2 had. In D2 you only spammed 1 or two spells all the time, also you had to spend all your points into either the skills you spammed or the synergies. Now in Diablo 3 you have different kind of spells and you can choose the ones you like. Instead of spamming only hammers or blizzards you can actually have more diversity. Playing the D3 beta so far has been much more enjoyable as the first levels in D2 because you often didnt even spend you ability points then but safed them. I don´t see a point in spending perks if they only limit myself.

You can also bind "move" in the controls if you want to move around without attacking. That doesn't work well because, the spells in the left-right click needs a target on the ground. The only viable solution is the D2 one where left click can be exclusively move and you can swap what's on right click with a hotkey. Such a setup is not possible in D3, instead we are forced to have left click for both move and a spell.
