Why can't people tender at least some opinion now? We have got to listen to her cast. Do you think that casting GSL Code A will magically change the way she talks? Yes, actually. Singaporeans can choose to speak in Singlish or more of standard English. Those that did have proper English education anyway. It's not a "built-in accent that cannot be changed" thing. So then why are her other English speaking casts, that go to a completely English audience, exactly like that? That would seem to imply that it's just an accent she can't get rid of without extensive work. I remember reading in another thread that a lot of the English teachers in that area are rather bad and almost everyone ends up with this type of thick accent.

If you have any recordings of her speaking comprehensibly, post.
If she really didn't learn proper English, then she will use Singlish when casting Code A. If she did, she should know that it will do her good if she uses proper English. I'm pretty sure she's not dumb.
We'll see when Code A broadcasting hits.
I'm actually curious here, what's the difference? like what are some common things that come up in Singlish
Singlish is a mish-mash of many different languages, basically. It is known to be heavily discouraged by the government, media, and schools in Singapore.

God she is annoying. Didn't GOM learn from Susy? At least Susy could speak clearly and wasn't a bitch.

Well at least now we won't have to listen to their constant negativity about bad matches or players. This might be good news
That's not entirely fair, because when they cast the previous code A there were some very, very weak players compared to others. Now, the skill in code A is much higher than the previous season that the games would be of a much higher quality.

You would be surprised. Think about the way you talk, then think about it if you make a conscious decision to slow down and pronounce your words and thoughts carefully. If she consciously attempts to improve her casting in that regard, it's more easy than you think. That doesn't mean she'd suddenly speak perfect English, but if presenting a clear message is more important, she definitely can.
Just a random thought popped into my head though.. Have Jason Lee cast with her. I think it would be hilarious to see and hear the stark contrasts between the two. I'd buy that for a dollar.

Why is my money going towards a caster that I do not enjoy watching?
I feel that most of the community feels this way and now face a dilemma.
I don't want to watch the Code A matches, half because of the obvious reasoning and the other half because I feel I should demonstrate to GOMtv that they DID mess up.
I just contributed to her salary...
Out of EVERYONE willing to cast... WHY.

Originally I thought it read she would be alone, but with Tasteless and Artosis alternating it could be good, or at least not as bad. They can help her with understanding the game and her casting and hopefully, her English will improve with the extra experience she will have speaking it. I was shocked at first but I think it will be okay for now.

This is actually worse than I could have imagined...
Edit: I guess I should clarify. If she came in with another partner new to the GSL, they would have time to mold to each other and develop as a team. With this system, it's going to create a culture of wishing for either Artosis or Tasteless depending on who is casting.

Exactly, remember when we all hated the new observer?
Or even when people didnt like John the translator?
Give her a chance.

GOM Sam, I love your work. It might be getting alittle frustrating clarifying everything for people not reading the entire article but you're sticking with it :D

These breaks between GSLs are unbearable; I just want it to start again!
^this exactly.
She'll get her best shot at proving herself to the community and earning popularity. I wonder how well they're gonna fill up the downtime though since Tastosis does such an awesome job filling with cutesy banter and random knowledge (all while keeping the stream entertaining)
Chemistry is definitely important here.

Would've been better had Gom just selected Torch as the code A caster, wondered why they didn't pick him because he applied didnt he?

I'm not a fan of Kelly, (I just can't understand what she's saying) but I think the decision to pair her with each of the more experienced casters will be a boon. That, at least, was a wise move by GOM. She won't be terrific right off the bat, but working with Tasteless and Artosis she will almost certainly improve.
|
Good luck, Kelly. I hope you do well, not just for the sake of GOMtv, but for the sake of eSports at large. Make the international starcraft community proud, you are on the big stage now, don't let us down. That is all.

Then I guess theres no good news. I'll probably just watch the games that are interesting and/or include players I like.
It's one thing for an observer to improve over time. It's another for a person to completely change they way they speak, describe things, and sense of humor. If she does improve, it will not be very soon and we are still forced with her for code A until we determine if she can change.

so happy to have mute buttons on videos these days!

err any link to one of her commentary perhaps? i remember hearing a girl voice commentating a SEA tournament once (from one of the featured stream on TL.net) but im not sure if that was her ...
well i'm neither for nor against the decision made by GOM, as i don't have much idea on who is good and who is not ... but i know one thing for sure, if she helps esport to grow, then i totally don't mind
p/s: as long as she refrains herself from using "lah" and whatnot, i think it's fine ...

how dare they split up tastosis!!

I'm a bit surprised that other applicants weren't brought into the fold, but then again moving to Korea is a bit of a big move. But the current situation sounds like a good one, at least there will be someone experienced alongside Kelly, instead of what I previously thought would happen and there would be two 'newcomers' casting the Code A games. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I feel like I should make this clearer:
You have a caster who hasn't spoken comprehensible English in any of her casts. That's not a very good resume.
Why would you gamble and say "she hasn't done the work before but I'm sure she will now!"
That just doesn't make any logical sense. You should have some actual precedent in the form of the resume when you make big hiring decisions like this. You have no proof she can and, even if she can, you then realize that all of her prior stuff has been incredibly sloppy.
And let's not even get into the game knowledge.
|
Nvm read it wrong but still i think this is the wrong thing to do, the great thing about tasteosis is the chemistry and they just will not have it with her, therefore they will not meet up to the artosis/tasteless expectation and it will seem even worse :/, at least imo.
