The one admirable thing about Blizzard is they respect Non-Disclosure at least, unlike Kespa. Nice open letter, although it just seems like he's been reading TL and giving us exactly what we want.

Same shit, different day.

Wish they would just leave it and focus on the world rather than just Korea, everything they have done attempts to appease Koreans (who they have angered beyond reconciliation) all the while saying the usual Blizzard "screw you the rest of the world".

Personally I think it'd be a big enough indicator of Blizzard's attitude that Mike Morhaime personally reads TL.

they talked about it in "future patches" posts, but everyone focused on the fact that the next "balance patch" first would come at the end of the year

In what context? Ie. mockingly or happy that Blizz (says they) support BW?

its good if they understand that blizzard cares about their games

its bad if they think that sentence stresses more on possession.

I think this is a very important part. Can we stop claiming Blizzard wants BW to die now?

Other than that I'm highly interested in the custom maps. :D
Thanks for the info Waxangel!

I don't think anyone's claimed Blizzard wants BW to die for no good reason. Of course they want SC1 to live on. They just want many other things a lot more. If it would secure their IP rights in Korea, you bet they'd kill BW without a second thought. Nothing in this letter says otherwise.

They have talked about pro leagues before but "semi-pro leagues" is news.

Actions speak louder then words. Though maybe the community is a bit too polarizing. He defintely isn't bent on killing the BW scene, but he does of course prioritize the growth of the SC2 scene over the preservation of the BW scene. (This should be understandable really though, it isnt that demonic) In reality, devoid of context, it appears that blizzard is killing off the BW scene and replacing it with the SC2 scene.

In the end what they want doesn't matter (as a subject of the discussion). The point is BW will likely die and be replaced with SC2, with an uncertain level of success.

This could almost be a standard response template and is about as effective as pissing into a volcano.

Especially the last paragraph about the BW proscene, about as disingenuous and emotionless as you can get. It's like being chased down a corridor by a deranged madman, and as he is stabbing you he goes "I don't want to hurt you, I only want what's best for you". Your actions speak louder than your words, Blizzard. But I guess letters like this are all about appearing benevolent among those who aren't really interested in what happens to BW.

It doesn't really say much.
But it says enuff to conclude that Blizzard still cares.

Because he said it, it's true? The actions don't match the words here.

Gretech wants BW to die. Depending on their contract, Blizzard might or might not want it.

Didn't know there is going to be semi-pro leagues. What that does even mean :o I wonder how they will decide who is pro and who is semi-pro.

But I'm glad they are at least saying something, even thought it's kinda that politician answer that doesn't really answer anything.

We realized from the start that players would want to access and use StarCraft II and Battle.net in different ways. That’s why we created a variety of access options to suit different play styles and levels of commitment. Players can choose from multiple time-based passes if they know they’ll play intermittently, or they can choose an unlimited-access pass.

Is this a step towards pay-per-play like WoW or am I misinterpreting this?

I think he just talks about those some countries who have options to buy playtime in that pay-per-play fashion.
But even those countries they have a option to buy the game and never pay for it again.
