I just ordered a new gaming rig, should be powerful enough for pretty much anything at the moment
Intel Core i7 920 (4x2,67GHz) Quad Core LGA 1366, 8MB Cache, QPI 4.8GT/S, ASUS P6T SE, Intel 1366, Crossfire Scythe Mugen 2 Corsair XMS3 6GB 3-Kit Core i7 1600MHz CL9 1,0TB HDD WD Caviar Black SATA-II 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9ms, NCQ ATI Radeon HD5870, 1GB DDR5, 850MHz, PCI-E 2.0, DVI, HDMI, DVD-Burner 22x DL SATA LightScribe, schwarz SH-S223L/BEBE, 22xDVD±R, 8xDVD+RW, 6xDVD-RW, 12xDVD+DL Corsair TX750W 750 Watt, 14 cm fan / SLI, CrossFire / 80PLUS certified Thermaltake Element T
I originally wanted to include an SSD to run the OS and the most important games on, but these things are still sooo expensive! :/ Also bought a new monitor (Asus VW246H, 24"), keyboard (G15) and mouse (G500).

You should tell him how much fun SC is! Maybe he'll stop playing CoD and switch to SC2 xD
Do you have a beta?!

Hey i know i need a new graphics card. I'm looking at the radeon 5770. Sound good?
|

OOI, I'm not sure you even need a 5770 if you're playing at 1024x768, but if you plan on upgrading your resolution, the 5770 is a great buy.
Fatal Vitality, Yes, it should be possible for you to add that card in, but why would you pay somebody else to do it? It's an extremely simple process...

How would my old system run SC2? I could upgrade, but I'm holding off on it for awhile.
Q6600 @ 2.4 8800GT 4Gigs of Ram Playing at 1680x1050
Is anyone in beta playing with this setup?

Is anyone in beta playing with this setup? You'll play just fine. The requirement is for 128mb of video memory, i've been testing my ass of with my old computer parts on the sc2 beta and i've managed to play at ~30fps in lowest settings with a 7300gt and an athlon xp 2400+, the 7300gt overclocked 500/800 and the athlon xp at 2.6ghz (was 2.0ghz). Before overclocking it wasn't very playable. (Also i would like to say that this is a really high overclock for this chip, way more than i was expecting.)

I have no clue about updating my resolution haha (computer noob) is that just changing settings on the computer? that resolution was set for SCBW. Is there a different part I need for that?

So far i chose this: CPU: i5 750 GPU: Sapphire HD 5850 RAM: 2x2GB DDRIII 1600MHz CL9 1,7V KINGSTON HyperX (i5 supports max 1333MHz, but 1600MHz just in case i choose to OC) (or would you recommend Corsair? OCZ maybe??) OS: W7 Home 64b
Now I have question about HDD: I want some SATAII, capacity doesn't matter that much, 320GB is enough for me. Would you recommend WD or Seagate? I also heard some Samsung HDDs are good. About MB: are there some big differences between individual brands? (ASUS, GigaByte, MSI?) Right now I think I will go with MSI P55-GD65, but I don't know much about motherboards. And last thing - Case (and cooling) + PSU: this is part where I'm completly clueless. I'd guess some 550W PSU? Case - CoolerMaster Elite 334 seems good to me. I'm not sure if it won't need some additional fans?
Note: this is about PC building in general, not about being able to run SC2, but i post it here since there were too many [H] PC blogs lately.
On the HDD: Own Maxtor (now Seagate), but will likely replace with WD, for reasons of personal preference. (Recommend Caviar Blue or better yet, Black, for desktop use; however, GP in 1 TB or new 750GP (semi-replaces 500GP; look for specially-marked boxes brick-and-mortar, especially BB or MC) is a decent option if Blue/Black unavailable or too pricey)
Mobo: Have nothing against MSI, and even less against Intel chipsets. Usually, as long as you're looking primarily at the base chipset features (and nothing brand-specific), any motherboard brand should do.
RAM: I personally prefer Corsair (I have the XMS2 in my current rig, and they do make an XMS3 for yours) for bang-for-buck reasons.
PSU: 500W these days as a minimum, even if CrossFireX/EyeFinity/SLI are not on the table. Seasonic (single-rail, if you can find one) or Antec multi-rail (though I honestly despise m-r PSUs on principle). Normally, I'd recommend PC Power and Cooling (Silencer 500 *or* 750 Quad); however, the 500 is darn near unfindable new, and the 750 Quad has followed suit.)
Case: Lian-Li ATX (I have one currently; decent amount of fans for cooling, and you don't get raped price-wise) or Antec (either Three Hundred or Nine Hundred II). I prefer mid-tower (not minitower) ATX cases for spacing/cooling reasons (even better, you can fit motherboard sizes from microATX up to full ATX in a mid-tower; when I got the P5N-EM HDMI, it replaced the full-ATX P4C800-E Deluxe in the case). Also, you can actually fit a mid-tower alongside most displays (even LCD displays) on top of a desk.
OS: Windows 7 x64 is a solid choice (and what I run today).

Windows Vista Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 Dual 4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHZ Intel Core2 E8400 (3.4GHZ 1333 FSB) w/Dual Core
Runs Mass Effect 2 at top settings without a problem. Shouldn't be a problem for SC2.

Macbook Pro 2007 Mac OS X version 10.4.11 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz ATI Radeon X1600 VRam 128mb Display LCD 1440 x 900 resolution
I know they not the best settings but if anyone could tell me if ill be able to run SC2 on it that would be great.

It should run. Shouldn't run higher than medium though.

I know they not the best settings but if anyone could tell me if ill be able to run SC2 on it that would be great. You will probably have to go to pretty low IQ settings to get lag-free playability, sadly you have a terrible graphics card.
