CPU: Intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5870 (woo dx11) RAM: 6GB @ 2000MHz Monitor: 19" 1440x900 (shitty I know)
...my other components aren't really important. Though my mobo and PSU could support 5870 if I wanted to throw that in there, but that's irrelevant at the moment. So yeah, my system is far overkill for SCII. And pretty much any game running at 1440x900. Spent all my money on the desktop, neglected to get a good monitor >_>
Ah, first post in awhile and I just upgraded the machine. Specs: OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Motherboard: DFI LP DK X58 T3eH6 CPU: Intel Core i7 920 D0 4GHz w/HT on, w/Thermolab BARAM Case: CM RC690 v1 with 4x 120mm fans and 1x 140mm. RAM: 3x2GB OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 7-7-7-24-2T GFX: ASUS HD 4870 1GB Dark Knight Edition w/Zalman VF1000 Sound: Creative Audigy ZS PSU: Seasonic 500w Drives: DVD ROM, DVD/CD-RW Burner Monitor: HannsG 23.6" @ 1920x1080.
AMD Phenom II 945 4GB Gskill RAM Radeon 5770 Windows 7 (64)
is a beast. I can run pretty much anything on max settings on 1440x900 without any problems what so ever. so if anyone is worried about anything, the 5770 is a very awesome budget card and probably even a lil overkill at this resolution. cheap build too.
I'm not very clever when it comes to system specs. Will I be able to play SC2 with this laptop?
OPERATING SYSTEM:WINDOWS 2.6.0.6001 (SP 1) CPU TYPE:INTEL(R) CORE(TM)2 DUO CPU P7350 @ 2.00GHZ CPU SPEED (GHZ):2.02 SYSTEM MEMORY (GB):2.996 GRAPHICS CARD MODEL:NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600M GT GRAPHICS CARD DRIVER:NVD3DUM.DLL DESKTOP RESOLUTION:1280X800 HARD DISK SIZE (GB):288.035
I was a bit nervous when they said minimum processing power is 2.2 Ghz, however I heard that core 2 duo means its actually more than 2.00ghz. Could somebody clarify?
I'm planning to build a new computer and I would appreciate some help. So far i chose this: CPU: i5 750 GPU: Sapphire HD 5850 RAM: 2x2GB DDRIII 1600MHz CL9 1,7V KINGSTON HyperX (i5 supports max 1333MHz, but 1600MHz just in case i choose to OC) (or would you recommend Corsair? OCZ maybe??) OS: W7 Home 64b
Now I have question about HDD: I want some SATAII, capacity doesn't matter that much, 320GB is enough for me. Would you recommend WD or Seagate? I also heard some Samsung HDDs are good. About MB: are there some big differences between individual brands? (ASUS, GigaByte, MSI?) Right now I think I will go with MSI P55-GD65, but I don't know much about motherboards. And last thing - Case (and cooling) + PSU: this is part where I'm completly clueless. I'd guess some 550W PSU? Case - CoolerMaster Elite 334 seems good to me. I'm not sure if it won't need some additional fans?
Note: this is about PC building in general, not about being able to run SC2, but i post it here since there were too many [H] PC blogs lately.

You should be ready for SC2. The Core 2 Duo is more 'efficient' with its ghz than the older Pentium D processors, so you are actually getting more done in 2.0ghz with a C2D than with a Pentium D.

A bit overkill but runs everything maxed out so sc2 shouldent be a prob.

Just about every drive on the market is a SATA II at the moment
Western Digital and Seagate are both very reputable companies at the moment. Western Digital's Caviar Blue and Caviar Black line are very reliable and decently fast, though they tend to be a bit more expensive than their Seagate counterparts. Seagate on the other hand, has the cheaper hard drives, which are also a little slower.
Samsung recently came out with their F3 Spinpoint line of Hard Drives that are actually probably some of the BEST hard drives on the market. They use 500GB platters so random access time is shorter (IE programs open faster), and have good read/write speeds. They are also fairly cheap, so I would recommend a F3 Spinpoint if you can find one. They come in 500GB and 1TB versions.
For a motherboard, my personal preference is ASUS, but MSI is just as good. That MSI board however, runs 2 PCIe X16 slots at x8 and x8 (when in crossfire/SLi). While that is great, it is also useless if you do not plan on adding a second graphics card. You can get a cheaper motherboard if you do not plan on crossfiring!
Case/PSU is actually fairly easy. My choice PSU brands are Corsair and Antec. A good Antec PSU with 650W comes at around $80 at newegg. For your build, a decent 500-550W would be perfect. There are also brands like Thermaltake and Cooler Master which also put out some decent PSUs. I would suggest going for a PSU that is 80+ Certified because they are more efficient with power even though they cost a bit more. As for Case, I prefer Cases that have at least two fans. The Elite 334 only has one 120mm fan at the back, but for much better airflow, it is better to have more fans that circulate more air so your computer runs cooler.
