Just google "caviar black raid" and look at all the links. Here's one with a reply from WD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284 Their raid edition drives are 50 bucks more, so I'm deciding to not go with raid and wait a year or so until SSDs are affordable enough for a system drive (and maybe raid 2 of those). Intel is cutting their SSD prices by 40% this quarter I believe, so I can see SSDs being less than half what they are now in 12-18 months.

The ram is fine, assuming you're running XP, although it may be a little low. The graphics are surprising for such a shitty processor/RAM, are they 256mb or 512mb? Definately fine for the purposes of sc2 though. The hard drive is tiny, but you've got an external. Just remember that most games nowadays are in the 10-15 gig range. I'd say you can expect to run the game, but not play it maxed out. You can skimp on upgrading for a couple years

Your rig sounds fine for running the game, but i would recommend getting a 9800 GTX+ 512mb if you have the money, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316) however you may not have a proper power supply, which once again leads to the full computer revamp. If you do have a proper power supply and one 6-pin power connector, then by all means get the 9800GT. it will be a huge improvement over the 8600GT. I have a 500 watt power supply...

Here are my specs: Core i7 C0 ( =[ ) @ 2.66 (will OC when I get a game that requires me to. well, I'll get an aftermarket cooler when that happens too) OCZ 6GB DDR3-1600 Asus P6T SE Mobo MSI HD4890 OC @ 965/1044 WD Velociraptor 300GB 10000rpm Total: a little less than $1200 Yea, I don't really game on my PC, which means its just sitting there with specs too high for any kind of application I'm using. =[ It looks like DX11 will come out sooner than I thought, so I might be upgrading my GFX soon even though I just built this one. And as to the recommendation on graphics cards, the ATI HD4850 512MB(90$) performs better pretty much all across the board and can be had for a lower price than the Nvidia 9800GT 1GB (100$). In fact imo, ATI cards all have better performance at their respective price points compared to nvidia cards. However, like someone mentioned before, with DX11 and Windows 7 coming out really soon, you might want to wait a little bit to upgrade your graphics, so that you can have the best setup when SC2 comes out. *EDIT* Damn, I was just running Crysis and was getting artifacts at 965/1044 on my HD4890. Turning it down to 920/1010 now.

I have this computer because it accomplishes a purpose, really its a "work" computer, its just in my dorm. Which means i have to take care of it etc.

I don't know why, but it just seems as though people are picking NVidia over ATi just from the brand or just a few of their past graphics cards. It's 2009 now, and people should reconsider their preferences by looking at the new benchmarks if they haven't done so already. And ATi's 4850 just performs better than NVidia's 9800GT across the board. Look at some benchmarks! Also, keep in mind that ATi is going on DX10.1 which gives them a slight performance boost, while NVidia is still in the stone ages going w/ DX10.0. NVidia finally went on-board with DX10.1 recently, but there's no promise that it'll give NVidia GPUs as much performance boost as it did for ATi GPUs. Secondly, keep in mind that ATi is going on schedule w/ their DX11 GPUs right now. NVidia had a severe lack of performance in their GT300 prototypes(I've heard somewhere around 20%-30% of how it's supposed to perform...), and NVidia will most likely have to delay their new DX11 graphics cards until at least end of 2009 or even into early 2010. I also think that we should start looking at Intel's code-name Larrabee. It's going to be interesting how they do.
