are political campaigns truly such bubbles that they can't see this?

crisis brings opportunity as well, but at any rate, since the next president will inherit the mess, he would be in a position to take credit for improvements. although it is a fine mess.

1. Its a last ditch effort. Negative campaigning is effective. If McCain is behind, he has nothing to lose by going negative.
2. It may be too late and Obama may be too far ahead for McCain to hope to win. In that case, the GOP needs to shift into "attack and slime Obama" mode.
Regardless of what you may think about the political parties, whichever party loses the Presidential election must begin to attack that President as much as possible. The sliming of GW Bush by the democratic party these last 6 years has been the most antagonistic and effective attack I have ever seen on a President. This can be evidenced by the fact that at most universities, a person can't even say he supports Bush without fearing for his life. It is also evidenced by the fact that a lot of you are now going to claim that Bush did it all to himself and the Democrats and nice people who would never slime a person's intelligence or character.
The president is the straw horse of his party. By necessity, the other party must try to drag him down if they hope to win the next election. So if Obama is gonna win anyway, McCain/GOP figures, why not take down his pretty image before he goes into office.
Just my thoughts.
"the fact that at most universities, a person can't even say he supports Bush without fearing for his life." I call bullshit on this.

McCain's campaign has been an utter disgrace. From choosing a complete moron as VP just because she has a vagina to the clown act of supposedly suspending the campaign to "save the country", to the smears, fear tactics and hate instigating on the campaign trail and in TV ads...
What petty, shameful conduct.

It's completely unethical and there's no justification for it anymore. People are shouting "KILL OBAMA" at Palin rallies now and she's continuing to instigate hostility. The campaign has become about hate mongering, and McCain can't even control it anymore. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14479.htmlFearing the raw and at times angry emotions of his supporters may damage his campaign, John McCain on Friday urged them to tone down their increasingly personal denunciations of Barack Obama, including one woman who said she had heard that the Democrat was "an Arab."
Each time he tried to cool the crowd, he was rewarded with a round of boos.
"I have to tell you. Sen. Obama is a decent person and a person you don’t have to be scared of as president of the United States," McCain told a supporter at a town hall meeting in Minnesota who said he was “scared” of the prospect of an Obama presidency and of who the Democrat would appoint to the Supreme Court.
“Come on, John!” one audience member yelled out as the Republicans crowd expressed their dismay at their nominee. Others yelled "liar," and "terrorist," referring to Barack Obama.
McCain passed his wireless microphone to one woman who said, "I can't trust Obama. I have read about him and he's not he's not uh—he's an Arab. He's not—" before McCain retook the microphone and replied:
"No, ma'am," the Arizona senator assured. "He's a decent family man [and] citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign's all about. He's not [an Arab]." http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14457.html LoL, Jibba, what you need to learn about me is that sometimes I state my opinions and other times I like to just pontificate on what I observe happening (McCain going megatve because he has nothing to lose and the parties are changing positions now). My posts on McCain's negativity are the latter. I don't know how in the world you thought me saying he had nothing to lose was "rationalizing". These were observations. Rationalizing would be more like, "McCain isn't really going negative, its just that Obama's past is so dark that it looks negative when you bring it to light." or "McCain has to go negative because the media are on Obama's side and do Obama's dirty work for him" You can probably imagine dumb people coming on here (maybe Evandi?) and rationalizing. But don't try to group me with them. Poor little Obama! I bet nobody has EVER shouted out for Bush's death. I bet nobody did that for Clinton, Reagan (let alone try to actually do it), Kennedy or any other President (I'm treating Obama as the presumptive next President now). Sorry, Jibba, I have no sympathy for Obama here. I doubt Bush feels sorry for him either. I hope your next non-aborted baby turns out gay.

The issue is that the McCain campaign is condoning a very negative political line (despite his recent attempts to calm an angry mob). His VP is going around insinuating that he hangs out with terrorists for christ sake. His townhall meetings consist of people saying they don't trust Obama because he is an Arab and that they are angry because socialist are taking over the country (His supporters seem to ignore the fact that he just wrote a check to wall street and just proposed buying out bad mortgages). This is the tone of his campaign. You would be hard pressed to disassociate McCain from the tone of his own supporters, and if you tried you would be backing yourself in to a corner about the strength of McCains leadership. Saying "o poor Obama", is just completely besides the point. This tone is not about Obama, it is about McCain and the ridiculously uninformed and close minded people in this country.
edit - I've probably said this before, but it drives me nuts. McCain is the guy that in 2000 the republicans said was apparently less qualified to run this country than Bush. Now they want us to think he is the best man for the job, even after he foolishly picked the only person in the country less qualified than Bush to be his VP. What the hell is wrong with these people?

I would guess Obama being a black male with a Kenyan father, who lived in an Muslin country for part of his younger days puts him at a high risk of assasignation. McCain allowing his campaign to feed these bullshit claims and Palin ranting about Obama's association with terrorist only feeds the fire.
If Obama gets shot by a nut who thinks Obama is a Arab terrorist because Palin said so, McCain has some of the blame since after all he is in charge of his campaign's tactics.

if you can't see how hate-mongering is an irresponsible practice, especially in a democratic process, i have nothing to say. seriously

I hope everyone feels the same about hate-mongering about Bush as they do about Obama.
I would expect that from at least the more serious posters on this thread.

Yeah regretably it's worse when red states hate monger. They have more guns and less education.

The anger towards Bush is justified from the numerous catastrophic failures of his administration. The worst I've heard from people when speaking of Bush is to impeach him, and no doubt many people will hate him. But the basis for the hate towards George Bush is because of his policies and the actions he has taken while president. In terms of Barack Obama, the hatred seen recently seems to stem from racism, the fear that he might be a muslim and he might be some kind of secret terrorist and the plain fact that he's black. Though most likely unintentional the McCain campaign has only helped fueled the fire when asking "Who is the real Barack Obama?" and associating his name with terrorist. I understand the point you are trying to make but there is a distinction in the intensity and source of the hatred.

There is no place for hate mongering period Savio.
But there can be disdain for Bush, a dislike or hatred of his policies and the unnecessary & irresponsible Iraq war. The ignorant and uninformed are yelling the loudest about a person they do not even know, judging unfairly. This has everything to do with their personal weaknesses and negative compaigning rather than Obama. The ignorant and uninformed calling for the death of Bush are no better than these people.
However, there are many who can actually call for the death of Bush with some justification. And those would be many of the refugees and the friends and family of countless innocent lives lost in Iraq.

The only penalty Bush will pay for his thoughtless ill-advised foreign policy is having his name marred in the history books. Personally I think there should be a greater penalty involved for initiating a situation that resulted in over 500,000 deaths and 600 Billion in wasted expenditures. Not to mention this was sold with poor evidence and misinformation.
It’s easy to argue Bush deserves any hate mongering he receives when you look at the results of his decisions.
Obama, on the other hand, has done nothing to deserve the radicalism and hate mongering propogated by the McCain campaign. I think Savio's response is one of the most rediculous responses I've heard. I mean what kind of mind does one require to think "Protect Bush from hate mongering" when Obama is unjustly recieving death threats while being linked with terrorist.

Palin is retarded, Here's a list
1. She supported teaching creationism in public schools up untill 2006 when she ran for governor and realized the broad public arena doesn't tollerate idiocy.
2. It took Palin 6 years to finish college with a major in communications. She must have spent at least 2 of those years on her back.
3. Palin has been quoted saying "I believe we are in the end of days." How many years have retarded psycho religious people been claiming this?
4. Two words, "Couric Interview."
5. Palin until recently denied all the science of global warming. It's strange how she shifted this view after being cast into a broader political arena isn't it? Sorta like the Bridge to nowhere which she supported and then "said no to" which is a phrase she loves to throw around.
I could go on. If these aren't enough for you to look at the woman and say "wtf?" I don't know how I can help you. Can you show me some facts like these about Biden that call into question his sanity, intelligence, and experience?
|
Biden is extremely intelligent. He's just dumb when he's pandering or bullshitting. Palin is just in over her head and shouldn't be anywhere near politics.
