Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's 70% tax on the super-rich is more popular than Trump's tax cuts, new poll shows It's not the best poll but it shows that if Democrats had half the fight Trump does they could make it happen. Confiscatory tax policies are just bad. There is no good excuse to take more than 50% of any dollar that someone makes, regardless of the margin. It's nothing more than envy politics that will put a drag on the economy.

Maybe, but instead of making that case apparently it's easier to just lie and bank on Republican voters being ignorant sycophants. Obviously they aren't held accountable by their consumers for intentionally spreading lies.

You've gone so wildly right wing that Fox News - one of the most right wing news organisations in the entire Western hemisphere - is now 'centrist'? I will grant that the extreme insane right wing is now cornered by other places like Breitbart, but... Centrist?

Are you expecting tax returns or do your best to avoid giving the government the free loan? I presume the latter being conservatives and knowing of Kwark but no one I've asked that makes less than $100k really even understood refunds were basically just paying the government to hide your money from you until refund season. If not I'm not sure Democrats really have an angle to win this shutdown standoff. I mean Dems are right about this being Trump throwing a tantrum and a majority blaming him but I'm not sure that's enough nowadays. The shutdown overwhelmingly harms D voters many of which don't want to miss many more paychecks to stop Democrats from getting the barrier they've wanted for a decade just because Trump will call it a wall.

Its a balancing act but being a white protestant Christian middle-class male means that the government was written for my kind by my kind. Thankfully white privilege means all I have to do is confess this and all my gender and racial sins are forgiven. The dems already have a victory on this. I don't think any of the leadership thinks that they'll get away without paying 5 bill for the wall so anything they get now is hurting trump as much as possible. Trump isn't an agile politician that can handle a fluid dynamically developing ploy like a government shutdown. Pelosi can and is dragging this shutdown as long as possible knowing anything trump will probably do is hurting him and providing more and more ammunition to rile up the base for 2020.

The shutdown overwhelmingly harms D voters many of which don't want to miss many more paychecks to stop Democrats from getting the barrier they've wanted for a decade just because Trump will call it a wall. I dunno. Isn't the wall super unpopular among Democrats? The issue facing them is they've more or less walked in through the door and Trump's decided to wave his dick in their face and told them to back down from its might. If they do, why not shutdown the government every time he gets the chance? The longer it goes, the worse it is for whoever backs down, because it signals that they'll fold if the pressure lasts long enough. Difference is the Democrats are winning in the court of public opinion, at least for now. If that changes I suspect they'll cave, but at the minute the snowball's growing on their side of the aisle, not Trump's. The so-called master negotiator handled this about as badly as possible, from where I see it. He put their backs against the wall and left no out. The only way the Democrats win this is hanging on, or if Trump decides to actually negotiate instead of working in ultimatums and making 'offers' that involve fixing problems he created in the first place. Maybe permanent DACA funding would be sweet enough for them to call it a dual win and move on? I know DACA's a big deal for the Democrats.

I have a friend whos a tax lawyer who doesn't pay for beer or food on sundays. I'm not in the zone for contracting myself to my own corporation who taxes on my level are pretty low especially after the titheing deduction wipes out most of my tax liability. I donate to a FIRST team for what a chunk of my tax bill would be so the check I have to write has been times way below the interest on the money I have sitting in my account for most of the year. I get the sense that Trump could leave us where Hoover did and be celebrated I have little faith in the system to resolve his presidency amiably at this point.

It's amazing, they are showing a completely misrepresentation of the situation with the edited videos to cut out both how the incident came to be and the black jewish guy harrasing the kids; in our local mainstream news. Shows how the anti-trump/christian propaganda spreads internationally. The actual headline reads "The outrageous mocking of a native american by young catholics (who are Trump supporters)"

Catholic Knights of Columbus being disqualifying, criticism of Pence’s wife for teaching at a Christian school, smear of Catholic teenagers as racists in MAGA hats. It’s a sad state of media narrative, and particularly the cases where that came before facts. I think the current publicity is valuable in an eventual course correction.

The school discriminates against gay students. Mrs. Pence doesn't necessarily deserve criticism but the school's policy in this regard is shit, and that goes for schools of all faiths that perpetuate homophobia against kids. Its normal to have a rule that no sexual contact including hand holding or whatever on school grounds, and that should apply to everyone, but to kick people out for supporting or condoning “sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity” is bullshit. The Pope has, on more than one occasion, signaled some measure of support for gay people. Surely a school can show some support to its own pupils.

Did the vet do something? march for life was this wknd here in DC. these kids from KY were there for that. the black israelites show up and do their thing, which is generally very angry religious condemnation. false idols, hell, etc. some people talk to them, get discouraged because they’re angry. white kids in maga hats mob up and literally circle around them. native american stands between them, cue photo op of racist maga boys shouting the n word at some religious zealots with surprise guest. Nathan Phillips wasn’t the only native american in garb either, though it’s not clear to me yet what they had been gathering for. the real icing is that all this went down at the Lincoln Memorial, where some important civil rights moments went down, if you know what i mean.

The Pope has, on more than one occasion, signaled some measure of support for gay people. Surely a school can show some support to its own pupils. It’s a Christian school. Very traditional readings of the Bible (and, as you note, there are others) condemn the orientation and lifestyle. You might as well say you just discovered the Bible has some not-too-nice things to say about gays. Actually, that’s exactly what you’re saying. The Bible is nice and all, but running a school according to a very mainstream interpretation of its rules on living is unacceptable in your view. I don’t see how one or two denominations reinterpreting the scriptures helps your case at all. They’re free to do as they like, despite other Christian schools saying it amounts to sanctioning immoral behavior contrary to scripture. Also, they should of course receive no public funding for running their school as they see fit. No student should be forced to enroll in that school by the state either. I feel I have to repeat this qualifying remarks, because most of the critique would be valid if the government funded or forced attendance in these schools. Fuck, all the anti-religious bigotry makes me wonder if you were all closet bigots before Trump became president. So much for sharing society and a country with people of different religious views (religiophobic?). “Yeah, the Bible and Christianity is wrong about gays and I don’t agree with all that it sounds discriminatory and homophobic but HOLY COW a Christian school ACTUALLY TAKES IT LITERALLY OMG!” It hasn’t been a news story for hundreds of years.
