just think hard. real hard here. if you are intelligent you should reach the same conclusion I did, that adding a 4th race would most likely hurt the game. if you need I can post my reasons for this again, tho it's in another thread already | ||

Carefully chosen words by Blizzard. A fourth race would be grand. Of course balancing four races would be difficult. It could be that the fourth race would be unplayable...until the Expansion Pack. Perhaps the shift towards spacial/dimensional specialization by the Protoss will serve to differentiate it from the psionic and feral flavour of the Hybrids? Could the Hybrids be the eventual manifestation of Xel'Naga? | ||

The developers said explicitly there was not going to be a 4th race. Time for an opinion from every Harry, Dick and Jane moment. /me clears his throat An additional race added would increase the complexity for balancing. 3 races: (x * y, x * z, z * y) Adding a 4th: (x * y, x * z, z * y, a * x, a * y, a * z) Just adding one more race, doubles the balancing work they may have to do. They started in '03. All we know is some time after Frozen Throne's expansion pack. It could have been mid '03, late '03, don't know. I don't really care either. So three to four years to develop the game. I'm being generous with four years. Let's say three and a half. They developed supposedly a new gaming engine, first RTS to utilize the Havoc physics engine. On top of that creating the new units, converting stuff over, designing phase or essentially 'gathering all their resources' to pull together something like this is hard enough with three races. It's very difficult for me to imagine they could have squeezed a fourth race in during that time frame. And finally for reiterating purposes, Blizzard employees explicitly said there were only three in the round table discussions. I don't think they lie. They use artifice for sure when they announced, "at presently we have nothing yada yada we'll announce junk in the future" (paraphrased) when they were keeping Starcraft II under wraps as a surprise. (lawyer talk) Future being only two weeks long. When answering the interviewer's questions concerning a 4th race, there was no artifice or trickery of the type comparable to the SC 2 announcement. It was just an outright blatant, "3 races" by one of the lead developers. | ||

But yes, it'd be a lot for them to balance! But with all the hard counters the are introducing it should be easier... Still I do not think we will see a 4:th race for a long while (in pvp). And I have absolutely no facts to back that up. | ||

Imo in starcraft only 4 of the 6 matchups are balanced TvP TvZ PvZ and TvT. Both PvP and ZvZ need more work. Im hoping all 6 matchups will be balanced in SC2. Adding a fourth race would only mean a lot more balancework. Im not talking about balance as in both races being equaly able to win which is obvious they are in a mirrormatch. Im talking about a balance in the gameplay so that one strategy or BO isnt better than all the other. So most of the units can be used etc. We dont want another ZvZ in sc2 plz  | ||

Secret mission: one of the last Z mission is to kill a protoss base within 30 mins. Do it in less than 20, and you go to the secret mission. Use the guardians to get an expansion asap. | ||
