There are some breakpoints that you should really seek to get (like second elite trait before raids open) but exponential scaling so yeah

trait 25 costs about as much as 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 put together

Is there something special about golden traits beyond the effect they give? I hear so many people talk about reaching them and using them as landmarks but as far as I can tell they're just the same as any other trait. Neither of the specs I'm leveling have paths that prioritize getting them. I don't understand why they have the golden border and why people give them extra attention.

The gold traits are some pretty massive damage damage increases for some specs while many of the traits on the way there are mediocre at best.

Havoc DH is basically just a mad dash to the elite traits

Depends on class as stated.

My monk tank (alt so will take a while) isn't even prioritizing gold traits. Most of the stuff I want is regular stuff.

My rogue though has a few good gold traits I went for first and I am working towards the others as they are good dps increases as well.

WW Monk might be one of the more extreme examples of ignoring a golden trait (if you go counter clockwise and ignore the Touch of Death one). And MW Monk goes straight to one golden trait but then prioritizes two normal ones after that before heading to another golden. So in my experience they've not been a big deal but I gather that that's an exception cuz I hear a lot of chatter about reaching your second golden, etc. I'm not even trying to get two goldens ASAP on either one of my specs.

All three of the Havoc ones are just miles better than some of the traits on the way, especially since some of them are defensive in nature. You spend 3 traits to generate 15 fury each time you dodge an attack or spell? That's not gonna do much for a melee DPS on Patchwerk. The gold traits all add a ton of damage and it all applies to both ST and AOE

Skipped the Shadowmend golden trait here too, not worth it, at best its mediocre for 5mans, sucks for raiding.

The Penance path leading up to it however is one of the best ones in the tree.

I think what really threw me off is that mathematically, one of the WW normal traits just seems way better. The golden trait is a 10% dmg increase for 8 seconds on a 2 min cooldown while a normal trait near it is an 11.11% dmg increase for 15 seconds on an ability that has 2 charges and a 1:30 recharge. No sense.

Yeah, the havoc ones are pretty crazy. One is a large damage increase to eye beam, another is a 1.6x increase to one of the strongest burst AOE abilities - both of these are good even vs one target but scale linearly with more

Quick math - i think that you only have to spam heroics for about 3 hours per day to double your artifact power income once you've done all of the standalone AP quests. That's an unlimited source, so somebody doing more or less heroics will impact artifact more than spending some offspec points

Playing Blood DK so far, I'm loving the survivability and the fact I could level by pulling up to 10 mobs and not giving a care.

A friend of mine recommended I go around the left side of the tree and down towards the Heart Strike talent that provides 25% of its damage in healing.

Man the sustain gain has been pretty crazy so far in solo content and in normal dungeons though I'm guessing that probably goes down once you hit raids.

Now I plan on working my way towards the vampiric blood talents and then fill out everything else.

Encountered the Thunder Focus Tea bug in Violet Hold again. I think it appeared after I was changed into a vampire by the one boss there. After that I could not use it anymore for the rest of the dungeon. Sucked a lot because it is kinda important to monk healing. :D

Unlocking 3rd relic slot was pretty huge, went from 840 ilvl to 846 by just slotting in a relic. Pulling 150-160k dps on bosses as disc feels actually pretty decent.

I am impressed how everyone has such high item level. Or is it with crafting? Because I am still at 833 and have done all mythics, item world quests and an insane number of hc runs.

Only crafted item I have is my alchemy trinket. Did a full clear of mythics and have been doing random heroic when it's healer call to arms. And I've basicly finished content until I unlock more Nightfallen rep (just shy of 6k/12k honored) and raids open.

I think I am pretty unlucky, also heard from many guild mates that they are above 840 and I know they have done less dungeons than me.

Class hall items go to 840 and i think i have five available right now. Weapon is ~860+, 876 if you have godlike luck.

8-10 mythics give a ton of loot, heroics give loot every single run and get warforged or sockets quite a lot if you're spamming them.

Crafting gives some amazing pre-raid items such as rings and necklaces that are guaranteed ilvl 850, whatever stats you want with socket.

The best use for those items is increasing your character power for the day that raids and mythic+ open
