Generally, how do you counter void rays?
I am talking midgame, stalemate or he is turtle mode into late game PvP
I really can't seem to tell or to mix up the right composition. Normally, I see he has a bit of archons, few immortals, a bit of stalkers, lots of zealots and voidrays. He could possibly add tempest later.
Situations:
1. I scout and see a little void rays in his base on a single stargate, do I?
a. attack?
b. out expand?
c. mass up?
d. harass?
e. counter units?
2. At some points because my army is mainly stalkers and sentries I cannot attack, what do I do?
A.) is not an option, he has immortal (1) and 3 voids (moar coming)
B.) I did this always but it seems his 3 base play is okay. 1.a) tried prism harrass, warping zealots, failed.
C.) I can easily mass up, but with what? points out to D.
D.) Harass? HOW?
I tried: a. warp prism - 30% success b. Dark templars - 50% success or 10% damage
E.) what is the right mix? Im guessing:
A. Blink stalkers? B. Storms archon? C. Catch up with mass phoenix? (can't seem to catch up and if I do phoenix pretty much die in the straight up fight, if they do kill all voids, i am left with useless flying units vs mass gateway warpins.
I am betting storms but what do i mix in with them? and my storms sometimes come short or late. Vs Mass zealot, archon, voidray he melts my ground army really fast. I know stalkers are useless in lategame, colossi, im not sure. Archon zealots, not much Anti-Air.
3. Is timing attack the only way? Don't let them mass void rays?
4. What is the ideal lategame mix for PvP?
a. normal play (colossi archon gateway unis) - (I am guessing void rays lol) b. vs mass voidrays?
Please share and help. I am playing 2 base plays always and I don't wanna be stuck with it.

Something that works for me is making 3-4 Tempests and a lot of archons, in addition to 10 or so voids (talking extreme late game here). Then, make one oracle and sacrifice it to get a revelation on his army so that you have vision. At that point you can engage with your tempests and force him to have to engage into you. When a ball of voids floats over an archon ball, it isn't pretty.

dealing with straight up skytoss isn't that much of a problem. If they transition into straight up vrs from a pheonix opening you will max out before they do and be able to take a 4th base before they do. Storm/stalker/archon beats vrs because you will have better upgrades and more supply. Just attack into his third base and as long as you trade decently you can remax and his army will be weaker than before. take a 5th and just keep on attacking.

You just need to add storms. You want about 9-15 storms to comfortably deal with void rays, then you want archons to soak up damage and splash them.
The worst time to fight voids is after they have a good chunk of them but before you have storm. You need to either attack when they don't have many voids, or wait until storm. You're not under any real pressure to make a timing attack against void rays, since storm is going to decimate them all game long. I'd advise trying to engage once you have a good number of templar with a healthy amount of energy, 2-3 archons, and the rest of your army can be just a standard mix with zealot/stalker. Fight location is important. If you kill off or severely weaken a lot of void rays, you want to be able to reinforce fast off warp gates. You can produce a gateway army faster than he can produce a void ray army, so just warping back in tons of stalker/archon after a big clash is a good way to capitalize on his weakened ball.
If you're not getting storms in your games, or not storming effectively, that's why you're losing most likely. Void rays are fairly cost effective against everything else in PvP except storm, so you'll probably lose unless you blanket them with storms. The overall comp I usually go for against void rays is a good amount of zealots, a few archons, and then depending on what tech I was going for, sometimes I will have some of my own voids and maybe some collosi(great for clearing ground units). I usually go for a good amount of stalkers in my army too, because you need something to keep the void rays busy and do damage to them while your storms do the real damage. Plus the stalkers can clean up when the voids get stormed to low health.
For mid game, you can stall out voids mid map for ages with blink stalkers while waiting on storm to come up. Make them charge to engage you, blink back, wait. Repeat. You can harass them like this to buy time.
