Sarah Palin isn't a representative of the US to foreign dignitaries when meeting with them, she sets no policy, and you are not forced to listen to her. Besides, I legitimately think that Joe Biden is more of an idiot. (If we accept that Palin is an idiot at all) In completely unrelated news: The partisan bickering is going into the next round! I want an excuse to post stupid Joe Biden clips.

As ExxonMobil’s CEO, it’s Rex Tillerson’s job to promote the hydraulic fracturing enabling the recent oil and gas boom, and fight regulatory oversight. The oil company is the biggest natural gas producer in the U.S., relying on the controversial drilling technology to extract it. The exception is when Tillerson’s $5 million property value might be harmed. Tillerson has joined a lawsuit that cites fracking’s consequences in order to block the construction of a 160-foot water tower next to his and his wife’s Texas home. The Wall Street Journal reports the tower would supply water to a nearby fracking site, and the plaintiffs argue the project would cause too much noise and traffic from hauling the water from the tower to the drilling site. The water tower, owned by Cross Timbers Water Supply Corporation, “will sell water to oil and gas explorers for fracing [sic] shale formations leading to traffic with heavy trucks on FM 407, creating a noise nuisance and traffic hazards,” the suit says. Though Tillerson’s name is on the lawsuit, a lawyer representing him said his concern is about the devaluation of his property, not fracking specifically. Source

Also keep in mind that CEOs are doing a job and want to do it well, so of course they are going to try to maximize profits (and it's not just the oil industry cutting corners...). Personally I think your job can involve one thing and you can think something else when it comes to you personally. I think annuities are wastes of money but if my job involved selling them I would want to do a damned good job. This isn't that much better than articles decrying Obama for going on vacation when X political crisis is occurring. Yeah, from the title it seems like it could be anything from a total roast to a circlejerk. that's not a particularly leftist site. but the hypocrisy of the exxon guy is pretty obvious.

That said, the science-denial is a problem, and the denial of standard Christian theology is, to me, even more troubling. Neither the Catholic Church, nor any mainstream Christian body, holds with young-earth creationism. Even most evangelicals don't believe that. It takes a special kind of fundamentalist to insist on young-earth creationism, given that this debate was settled in the Church a century ago.

My favorite story about him is directly related to that video: Anti-evolution Congressman Paul Broun (R-Ga.) ran unopposed in Tuesday’s election, but nearly 4,000 voters wrote in Charles Darwin to protest their representative’s views. (Broun called evolution “lies straight from the pit of hell.”) Darwin fell more than 205,000 votes short of victory, but what would have happened if the father of evolution had out-polled Broun? Source I'm pretty conservative, but I swear to God if he wins the primary for Senate I'm voting for the Democrat.

It takes a special kind of fundamentalist to insist on young-earth creationism, given that this debate was settled in the Church a century ago. Well technically in doctrine Young Earth believers have more points for their side. "If the world is truly millions even billions of hears old and was developed through evolution than that discredits Adam and Eve since animals only turned carnivorous after The Fall," and... "The bible is infallible, God created the earth in 7 24 hour days and by following various family trees the earth can be no older than 6000 years." Etc etc. But yeah young earthers are a minority in the grand scheme of protestant / catholic beliefs. But then there are some who believe the earth was "created" mature just like Adam as a man, not as a baby. (So the earth/universe being created trillions of years in the matter of 1 day.) And then you have people who believe god created the universe/earth with the big bang.

and both of these look like "anti concepts" similar to "god" in order to balance all their equations. bottom line is science really does not know why galaxies move in the way they do and so they've had to create "dark matter" and ackowledge they really don't know wtf is going on. i'll give some cutting edge cosmologists credit for having the balls to admit how little they know about galaxies.

If you put your stock in God for the unexplained, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Never has that bet paid off.
