i’m not gonna take a stab at speaking for ‘the left’ here, but i just don’t give a fuck about what anyone thinks about my patriotism.

I know how much you guys hate having your patriotism questioned, and this kind of stupid shit does nothing but reinforce those very sentiments. This is the dumbest game, and we want no part in it. "I love my country" =/= "I think my country has zero flaws," a distinction I know you understand because "MAGA" only makes sense if you understand that distinction. I'll let Gahlo defend his patriotism but I'll say I think there's a lot of broken shit in the US and I want to fix it. That's not an unpatriotic position.

Yeah daaamn people aren't patriotic enough to ignore reality. Show me the well oiled machine riding into a secure future that your USA is. Shit is smoldering all over the place, just in need of a bit of wind to light it up.

Because the only true patriotism is blind worship of the status quo. It's right there in the constitution. We the People of the United States, in Order to form a completely perfect Union (and if you don't like it then you can just git out), establish... Trying to improve the country requires admitting that the country isn't perfect, something that a lot of people seem to struggle with for whatever reason.

I genuinely think the biggest factor in getting Trump instead of some other republican guy is how offensive he is. People were delighted. Finally here's a guy who isn't afraid to mock the disabled during a speech, talk about having sex with minors, brazenly sexually harass women (and that language is generous to him) and to top all that off, he hates Obama AND Muslims! That'll piss off the sour-faced dykes at the Guardian. He's the perfect guy for this day and age.

Also, patriotism as an argument is just bad. If you accept it, you can counter basically any criticism of anything in the country with "You should be more patriotic! Why do you hate countryX" Which is quite obviously silly. If the country is that great, it should be able to stand up to criticism on its own merits. It doesn't need the added armor of zealous patriotism. And if it isn't, it doesn't warrant the patriotism anyways. Even the best countries have things that are not ideal in them, which you should be able to criticize, otherwise they cannot be improved. If anything, deflecting any criticism of stuff going on in your country with the patridiotic bat is thoroughly unpatriotic, because it means you don't want the country to be the best it can be, you just want it to look good and no one to complain.

This isn't to say that the US is perfect and that we shouldn't point out its faults, but I'm quite amused to see that y'all won't even acknowledge how retarded Gahlo's statement is. And as for the point about patriotism, all y'all do on the Left is bitch about the country and call it racist and imperialistic (in a bad way), so please forgive us on the Right for being a little confused as to why we should consider you to be patriotic.

I know you haven't clued in yet, but there's basically only four people in this thread that actually care about "patriotism" like it's something important. I sent my brother to two garbage ass wars that accomplished nothing and supported his entire troop while they were there. And after, through a whole bunch of shit and a couple funerals.I have seen how this country treats its servants and most vulnerable citizens, with empty words and indifference. If I want to call this country garbage, I will. Do not ever question or imply that anyone doing so does not love for this country or their patriotism, you useless shill.

Which would probably never happen because it's easy enough to determine PR's political leanings and the opposing side has no motivation to tilt things against their own power.

Voting to add states diminishes the power of other states. Given the population of PR and the way the Republicans have been dealing with the Hispanic population for the last 20 years, there is zero chance there would be enough states on board to grant statehood to PR.
