he's apparently giving some sort of live conference. basically blaming Dems and repeatedly claiming that Obamacare is exploding. I think I'll stick with the analysis of Krugman and the CBO that it's not.

Krugman saying there's no point for dems to do anything to a point. Let's also remember the for years Republicans vetoed every possible fix like ending the donut hole in coverage.

Just saying, Trump is going to try to pivot to tax cuts and blaming any healthcare problems on democrats, they could cut his legs out from under him by saying, "You know what? Obamacare does have one big problem you pointed out during you campaign, it doesn't cover everyone. We want to fix that with medicare for all"

"Soooo did you want to keep your promise of getting everyone covered (like every other OECD country) or did you just want to move on to cutting taxes for wealthy people?"

But I get if they wait till the Sunday shows as to let this simmer for a little bit.

EDIT: Of course what they are actually going to do is confirm Gorsuch and work together on Trump's tax break for the wealthy because they were just as committed to a repatriation bill as Republicans are.

The Democrats were speaking on the floor today opposing this bill. They are not being silent. They don't control what rises to the top of the media.

However, the House Freedom Caucus is being" blamed." I hope they run with that.

"This really unpopular bill was defeated by conservatives!" I'll take that storyline any day.

The Senate Democrats actually have no power to stop that. If they filibuster the GOP will finish Reid's work and remove the filibuster for nominees. What happens if RBG dies and the filibuster is already gone?

The GOP knows the Dems would remove it in a heartbeat were the situation reversed, so there is nothing to be gained by losing now. It doesn't help that these hearings have provided so few explosions from which to build "resistance." It just looks like the petty partisanship they accused the GOP of, but worse.
"But, as the conservative understands it, modification of the rules should always reflect, and never impose, a change in the activities and beliefs of those who are subject to them, and should never on any occasion be so great as to destroy the ensemble."

Who said they were being silent? Of course they were opposing the bill. Pretty sure they could get medicare for all to the top of the media if they wanted though.

I knew from the start they were going to get the credit for this.

Exactly. They need to strike when it matters. Promoting medicare for all right now is just shouting at the rain. They are not the show until 2018 or the dynamic in the House suddenly shifts.

Exactly wrong. "shouting at the rain" as you call it, is exactly what got Republicans this opportunity in the first place. This is their "repeal Obamacare" moment, except they can not only actually have a plan, it will be better than what we have now and instead of 17% approval it's closer to 60% already.

Problem with pushing UHC is that it would never fly with the traitors and certainly would never pass under Trump. To get it to pass we just need to squeeze out a few more seats for progressives and get one elected president in 2020. Because god knows Schumer and Pelosi are no brilliant thought leaders who will push an intelligent vision forward.

History will sooner or later sweep the European Union away without mercy.

It has its uses.

Won't deny that it works. And will admit that it's probably the only way for politicians to be elected.

Just amuses me that someone would want politicians whoring for the spotlight (and, by extension, wants the politicians who excel at it).

Everyone knew repealing the ACA wouldn't happen under Obama, didn't stop people from running on it and winning. Plus, this has the benefit of not being smoke and mirrors. When they win, they could actually implement UHC and it would be an improvement, as opposed to the clusterfuck the republicans came up with after 6+ years and 60+ attempts.

I'm seeing more and more dems talking about how health care is a right, which I assume means single payer.

also apparently Louisiana just got tolled it can't make it illegal for refugees to get married. which should be obvious.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/judge-blocks-louisiana-law-kept-refugee-marrying-n738101

NEW ORLEANS — A judge presided, and the beaming couple embraced teary-eyed well-wishers when it was over. It wasn't a wedding, but it brought Viet Anh Vo and Heather Pham a bit closer to marriage.

Vo is 32. He's been a Louisiana resident since he was a baby and a U.S. citizen since he was 8. But he was born in an Indonesian refugee camp after his parents fled Vietnam. His lack of a birth certificate led to his being denied a marriage license under a state law that took effect last yea

U.S. District Judge Ivan Lemelle of New Orleans blocked enforcement of that law Wednesday. And the legislation's sponsor later said she's drafting changes to make sure foreign-born, legal residents can get a waiver to the birth certificate requirement.

Lemelle granted Vo's request for a preliminary injunction, saying the birth certificate requirement violates the equal protection rights of foreign-born U.S. citizens, as well as the fundamental right to marry.

"It treats him differently from citizens born in the United States or its territories," the judge said.

Rep. Valarie Hodges, R-Denham Springs, said it was always her intent to provide for waivers in her original bill, which was meant to deter foreigners from gaining visas and citizenship through sham marriages.

Understandably a bit slow after the candidate they backed shut the idea down in order to avoid exactly what ended up happening anyway.
