So about that leak. I would find it okay and I guess socially acceptable it was from 60-80 years ago to hear someone talk like that. I get it that things were bad and we've got to accept a level of social progress going forward but also a level of social regression going backward.
But thats some middle east level shit right there. Have some pride in your nation and love for your mother.

I wouldn't normally say this, but this is honestly political correctness gone mad. Trump says idiotic sexist things every day that ought to have disqualified him long ago, but because he broke some taboo 11 years ago there now is pressure on him to stand down. What utter moral hypocrisy. This by the same group of people that have a national platform of "traditional values" which is a mask for patriarchy, and are therefore fundamentally hostile towards women's rights.
But fine, if Trump steps down I'm happy.

Ehh. I think a lot of it has to do with the marriage issue-it's not really just the sexism. Between that, the bragging nature of it, and the assault-y nature of the remarks, it's the perfect storm of awful we might have seen shadows of before dragged out into the light in audio form (terrible mixed metaphor yeah yeah).
Plus the men of the GOP are very protective of "their" women-it came out with the Heidi stuff, and this is even more repugnant than that. Nobody hates people impinging on "their" property more than a patriarchy.
Still wonder what exactly the GOP told Cruz they would do to him if he didn't endorse.

The man advocated that sexually assaulting woman was fine. There is this voting block called "women". They make up around 50% of the country and all of them have experienced the unwanted attention of a man. Trump finally pissed off the one demographic the GOP cannot afford to lose.

And when you can't give that to them, they're more than willing to just abandon you. That's just as true in business as in politics. This is just one election and conservatives frequently think of these things in the context of the future of the movement and party. Now Trump spent a section of the primary cozying up to the establishment as part of trying to paint Cruz as some unlikeable Senator. Going into the convention/rules committees, he had his supporters vote with establishment leaders to give more control of the party to the leaders discretion (Priebus) and less to the grassroots (convention). These things stick for years and that setback was noted by guys like Blackwell and Lee. So the supposed outsider dealt a blow to all future efforts to reform the party from outside.
And for all these deals, he didn't gain much at all. The biggest NeverTrump influence is the conduct of the Trump campaign. They better get their act together for the second debate, Pence-like preparation both on substantive issue talk and mien. If Clinton noticeably gets under his skin with a curveball and prefabricated media follow up, he's finished.

I'm more concerned about if he has actually done these disgusting things he talked about and not just bragging to a friend and acting big, because if he has then it is by far the worse thing he has done so far even if it was 11 years ago.
celebs abusing their "status" and sexually assaulting women is obviously a very serious issue especially after the many constant cases in the last decade or so.

Agreed. He said that he grabs women by the pussy and kisses them without asking, which is literally sexual assault (i.e., he bragged about it being non-consensual, not just that he was using politically incorrect language).

My thoughts above have more to do with reason than persuasion. And that means you can ignore all of it because reason is not part of decision-making when it comes to politics. On the persuasion level, all that matters is whether this new development changes what you already assumed about Trump.
Personally, it didn’t change what I assumed about Trump’s personal life. Your mileage may vary. Pretty solid on nearly every point and even knows that the behavior itself is indefensible from moral standpoint.

The washington post was saying that it was most likely to late for Trump to be replace on the ticket since some state have already started to vote by anticipation and it is to close to the date to change the ticket because administratives rules. I post the article a couple of pages back there is other precedent in recent history and most of the time they were not able to change the vote. In 2006 in Florida Foley resign 5 week before the election but they still had him on the ticket (he would have quit his job day one if he had one in favor of another republican), another case where a dead man was elected for the same reason, in that case the party told it would be his wife taking the job.
So I wonder if there is the same kind of thing with the VP. Of course he could also say he is going to stepp down day one if he is elected, and I don't realy know what would happen then but technicly the senate pro tempore president is (I think) the one that is suppose to replace the VP, at least he is the second in line for president behind the VP so I think that is how it work.
I might very well be wrong on that one, but if it his realy that way we could have some a republican president and a democrate VP if they take the senate back.

Scott adams is rich enough that he can afford the monetary losses he takes from having a non-bland position.

If I put on my tinfoil about Adams I'd say there's a not-insignificant chance he's trying to win some money by driving Trump's odds up marginally higher than they would be otherwise.

After supporting Donald Trump through inflammatory statements for months, Sen. John McCain has had enough.
The Arizona Republican and 2008 GOP presidential nominee said in a statement to POLITICO that he cannot support Trump any longer after published audio of him demeaning women and making sexually lewd statements.
"I have wanted to support the candidate our party nominated. He was not my choice, but as a past nominee, I thought it important I respect the fact that Donald Trump won a majority of the delegates by the rules our party set. I thought I owed his supporters that deference," McCain said. "But Donald Trump’s behavior this week, concluding with the disclosure of his demeaning comments about women and his boasts about sexual assaults, make it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy. Cindy, with her strong background in human rights and respect for women, fully agrees with me in this."
McCain said he and Cindy McCain will not vote Hillary Clinton and will instead write in "some good conservative Republican who is qualified to be president."
