Punish them for breaking the law, not for being women though.
I responded to "Trump did not say he's in favor of punishing women for abortion." not to "Trump did not say he's in favor of punishing women for being women"
I'd try calling the comment lines on cspan, but I never get through on those; and they're usually hopelessly busy on something like this; at laest on the morning talk maybe I'd have a chance of getting through, but no chance here.

No, Trump is perfectly equal opportunity. He would punish men for getting abortions too.
Also xDaunt the "he'd just be enforcing the law, he'd punish them because he believes in a nation of laws, not because he thinks women should be punished for abortions" doesn't really work when he's the one saying he'd overturn Roe vs Wade and make it against the law.
You can't go "my hands are tied, I'm just enforcing the law, I don't necessarily believe in this" when you wrote the damn law.
The parts of the debate I watched were rather boring and standard, I highly doubt this is going to influence a lot of people. I give a slight edge to Pence just because Kaine interrupted him so much despite having good points

I guess we should be thrilled with our old laws that outlawed sodomy? How about our Jim Crow laws?
We used to have laws against abortion, we've moved on from those as well.
Except Jim Crowe laws were laws created to keep black people down. Abortion laws, whether you're for or against them, aren't.
Except when Jim Crow laws were around, they were all about the "separate but equal" and pitched as cultural separation. Some people pushing for those laws probably even believed that too.
Abortion laws are about removing autonomy from women. If it wasn't, those same people would be putting equal emphasis on aiding the child after birth.

Oddly enough control over family planning, which does include abortion, is one of the key factors linked with bringing people out of poverty. It's that and education. Lack of access to sex education, contraception, abortion etc condemn America's least well off people to a cycle of poverty. And that does disproportionately impact black people.
So as easy as it would be to say "That's so obvious it's retarded, no shit abortion laws weren't literally the same as Jim Crow laws and aren't explicitly intended to keep black people down" it's actually more complicated because abortion laws do play a role in keeping black people down.

There are many women who disagree and believe abortion laws are just a way for the government to control their bodies. Weirdly enough, many anti-abortion laws are written by men.

Beastiality, necrophilia, and prostitution is illegal in a lot of places. Are these things being illegal also not taking away autonomy from people?
When we think that something is bad, even though it doesn't affect other people, we don't allow it. And this is coming from a pro-choice guy.
