Encouraging a foreign enemy to attack the secretary of state is a totally different realm. I guess we'll see lol

The implications should be worrisome because if this works, expect a lot more of it in the future (oh you want to take a tough stance against Russia, wouldn't it be a shame if someone hacked all your emails???). Even if it doesn't work this time if this is not shown to be counterproductive it will become more prevalent. Again, does the content of what was produced not matter? Let's not pretend that foreign countries have never tried to influence elections. Everyone does it, whether it be through simple press conferences or through an email dump or through even more nefarious means. Yeah content does matter, but a foreign country trying to influence an election also matters- people used to get rather grumpy about even another political leader chiming in on one side or the other during an election (Mexico's president for instance). Our Trudeau keeps deflecting reporters' questions who keep trying to bait him to give an opinion on the election- it's quite clear he is sympathetic to Clinton over Trump, but he won't answer their questions. And that's a minor case compared to hacking and releasing.

I don't think the tax-releases has much play with a general audience. No one in their right mind would ever want to release their tax-returns, and while that may be the expectation for President's now, it wasn't always and there's no law mandating it.
The Russia thing is awesome. I would take it further and put a bounty on the info, offer $1-million for any information leading to an indictment. (IDK if that's legal, but if it is, he should do it lol)
NATO is the United States defending people so they don't have to defend themselves. They should pay for all of it. It's not our borders we're defending.

One thing is for sure, Reagan wouldn’t vote for Trump.

Funny, considering that the US is the only country to ever invoke the mutual defense clause.

It just isn't very good policy now, in my opinion. Getting involved in European land-wars happened and I'm not going to re-litigate the past and say it was a mistake then, but going forward it would be a mistake to continue. What do I care if Eastern Europe is too weak to protect their own borders? If Putin wants it and he can take it, let him. None of my business. Hell, if he wants Western Europe, none of my business and besides, he'd probably do better than most of the current fools who run things over there.
Europe should either start paying for our defense or paying for their own defense. I'm tired of sending American boys to die protecting European socialists.

You don't wonder if we have any selfish interest in protecting these countries? You don't think any of the motivation for keeping these countries safe comes from our own benefit?

So I see Trump looped in the Bernardino and Orlando shootings as examples of bad people coming into our country... except those were their parents that immigrated to the country. The shooters were first generation immigrants, sure, but how do you vet for when children who are born and bred in America go bad?

It’s nice to see that you trust the Russian government more than other American citizens or your own government. One thing is for sure, Reagan wouldn’t vote for Trump. That is an excellent point, the first part. I've never thought about it like that but it's true: I trust Putin more than I trust Obama. I trust the Russian government more than I trust our own. It's sad, but most of Putin's moves make sense to me if I think about it from a Russian point of view. His goals and mine might not align ever, but he just wants what is best for his country.
Obama on the other hand, and most of the government, they don't seem to care about our country one way or the other. It seems like they only care about themselves and sometimes as if they actively want our country ruined, or at least weakened. I can't make sense of their motivations, considering their actions. Though I threw out the "they are all just stupid" excuse a long time ago. I assume they aren't stupid, so maybe that's my problem?
Anyway, this is a problem for the government to figure out. I'm not obligated to trust them, they are obligated to earn my trust.

No need to apologize, it's rather obvious that he doesn't have the slightest idea of how the world works. That includes NATO, obviously. I've met some cool people in service, and i don't really regret going over there: i just react allergic to ignorant dumbasses. It's not american ignorance that pisses me off, it's his.

Yeah, let's break up NATO when Russia is being the most aggressive we've seen in decades. Smart. Like Plansix said, Reagan definitely wouldn't vote for Trump.
When we reneg on all our deals, its only a matter of time before our bases are thrown out of their countries, setting back US presence half a century, plus. Chances of keeping Okinawa, which is already a dubious proposition now? Something like zero based on what Trump had said of Japan.
