They are good old fashion, government hating people that all came together on the internet to create bullshit legal documents and plague local law enforcement. The only problem with them is the proliferation of them online and sort of rallying around each other.

The internet brought us all together, including the terrible people.

And we are still paying for Bush’s mistakes.

But all his buddies got rich, so there is that.

I could get on this bandwagon but a lot of those things aren't his fault. Housing crisis is probably equal measures post dot Com bust plus banks not being allowed to not give sub prime morgages. 9/11 was a long time coming and Katrina was a bigger fuck up then bush could have engineered even if he tried. The wetlands not weakening tge hurricane as much as predicted, the levy not working as predicted, roads being knocked out, a government agency being shockingly inept, are all things that he couldn't have had a hand in. Idk what political process you are referring to but everyone seemed on board with Iraq the tsa and the Patriot act.

Having a legitimate opposition to your policy keeps you honest and forces you to defend and fight for your policies. That's something bush never really had to do and Obama has been terrible at.

Just a general vibe to this but the end speech of the great dictator has a lot to say on it.

Did their corporate entity own the property? And who were you trying to serve, the individual, the person or the corporate entity? Did you check the capitalization of their name, that often provides clues?

They have demanded my death or banishment for attempting to contact them on the land they owned. They also cited the magna carta as proof my client had not power over them. One guy sent in 400 pages “documentation” proving his family line back to before the founding of the US, proving that his family and his rights to all claims predated any laws we were attempting to enforce. One issued a “warrant and legal bounty” out my attorney and me, which he attempted to publish in the local paper and Boston Globe. He then attempted to enjoin them into our case for failing to publish the “legal bounty” and have them banished, shut down or "their printing press ruled his legal property."

So yeah, it was all a nightmare and the sheriffs hated us for making them deal with these people. And all their power comes directly from the internet, because they all use the same legal bullshit.

Why the hell would you cite the Magna Carta...

you got it backwards. why the hell would you NOT cite the magna carta!

The key is that you cite documents that have nothing to do with US law. And then seal everything with wax seals and demand the delivery be witnessed. And then tell the court you have a lot of guns and you have the right to be armed on your land. That last part is the key to make sure the proceedings move slowly.

Ok. I've watched some videos of these sovereign citizen guys and they are not intriguing at all. Drunk driving, speeding, bypassing immigration check points, and parking in fire lanes and then claiming 'free men.' That's not even an interesting political position- that's just BS justification for doing whatever the hell you want. I like the videos where the cops break the vehicle windows when they refuse to give name and license.

If they claim not to be US citizens, can they not be deported? I suppose that would be more work than it would be worth.

I am really confused by that sovereign citizens thing. It sounds like something that just should not work, at all. From the wikipedia page, they don't pay taxes, ignore laws, and their defense to being prosecuted is spamming bogus shit. Am i reading that correctly? Because in that case i don't see how that can be very popular, considering that it simply should lead to you going to prison really quickly, which should discourage other people from trying the same thing?

The housing crisis is a result of the dot com crash and banks being forced to give out subprime loans to everyone???
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

They are totally irrational people. The problem is that we don't have debtors prison, so they keep filing garbage until the court says no. But baring someone from defending themselves is something a judge won't do, so they need to push it until the Judge has just had it. They also abuse the legal process, filing challenges to every single part of the legal proceedings, including the setting of hearing dates. They are just a nightmare and once they reach the limit in one court, they just move to another one where they are a new face.

They know exactly how far to push the law before it will come down on them. Just think of them like those nightmare, abusive, stalker ex-boyfriends that always manages to stay just out of the laws reach.

Edit: Also guns. They all have guns. We deal with them in NH, the land of guns and no law.

My first guess would be guns and a willingness to use them to.

Says a lot about the different standards that are applied to radicalism in the US. You can be part of a separatist armed militia, you can be member of some kind of cult and never give your kid an education, but god forbid you are a Muslim.

You believe these people are viewed in a positive light? What are you talking about?

Not in a positive light but they're clearly not as present in the media as they ought to be given how dangerous they apparently are. There's a certain tolerance towards both militant as well as Christian radicalism that doesn't exist when it comes to Islam.

No they are not positive (for most people) but they are also mostly ignored because hating on a part of your own people is harder while hating on foreigners is easy.

The reasons they aren't talked about should be obvious, no? For one, they didn't kill 3000 people in a single day. They aren't talked about because they are mostly just talk. Plansix's troubles at the law firm are not of concern to most people.

Edit: and I will point out, that if there are violent incidents (or almost violent), they do make the news. Like the Bundy Ranch standoff. Thing is, that doesn't happen every day.
