The ruling is a victory for protesters who say they are fighting the project to curb development, preserve Native Hawaiian culture and protect the Big Island's Mauna Kea, a mountain many consider sacred.
The court ruled that the state Board of Land and Natural Resources should not have issued a permit for the telescope before a hearings officer reviewed a petition by a group challenging the project's approval.
http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/hawaii-supreme-court-voids-telescope-construction-permit-n473236 Doesn't this just open the door for a perfunctory "hearing" and immediate reissueing of the permit? I don't know enough about this to have any idea whether the telescope is a good or a bad thing here, but this ruling seems like a pyrrhic victory unless they have very compelling evidence to present in that hearing. Not necessarily. This whole process is very expensive and time consuming, so tying it up like this could result in ultimate victory for the opposition. I dealt with a similar situation out where I live. County authorities and other business interests wanted to put up a new broadcast array (for TV and radio) that would replace some older, uglier arrays. It was a great project and a great idea. The problem is that the County authorities and business interests didn't strictly follow appropriate due process protocols and procedures, so the opposition was able to successfully stall the project and kill it. My remark at the time was this: "when you don't dot your i's and cross your t's, the hippies win."

Agreed. Even if the protestors are huge idiots, skipping a public hearing on a huge project like that is just asking for trouble. Just hold the hearing and let the idiots be idiots at the public hearing. Not having one just gives their side more creditability than they likely have earned.

Washington (CNN) Jeb Bush has tried everything.
His campaign allies have blanketed the airwaves with almost $30 million in ads. Aiming to shake the "low-energy" tag and prove his toughness, Bush hit Donald Trump as a carnival barker unfit for the serious job of being President. He attacked Sen. Marco Rubio, suggesting his former protégé was a dilettante in a hurry. He cut staff, hired a debate coach, and pledged that "Jeb Can Fix It."
Bush is now polling at 3% -- and dropping.
The 3% figure puts Bush in sixth place in the national GOP race, according to the CNN/ORC poll released Friday morning. It's the latest insult and disappointment for Bush, a son and brother of presidents, the conservative former two-term governor of Florida and the man who started the race as the unquestioned establishment favorite.
With two months left before the Iowa caucuses, Bush is saddled with the nagging questions: What happened? And is there anything the self-proclaimed "joyful tortoise" can do to turn things around?

Does CNN really have people inside the shooter's home right now? Can we just accept the fact they are no longer a "news agency" and just the tabloids? Is there any benefit to this at all beyond morbid titillation?

WASHINGTON — The woman who helped carry out the shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., on Wednesday had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a Facebook posting, according to federal law enforcement officials.
Does it then stand to reason that ISIS has claimed American lives on US soil? It really looks like this couple had something Paris'esque planned, got pissed at his employer, decided to start off with the holiday party instead, then tried to escape in hopes of still being able to pull off the original plan. Can't help but feel a little spooked wondering what else ISIS has planned

"ISIS" isn't planning crap. They are exhorting lone wolves (or in this case married couples) to commit suicide gun attacks. ISIS was merely an idea to these two. This couple had the resources and firearms skill on their own (the husband went to the range all the time, and modified his Cali-legal rifles to go full auto).
Also, please keep in mind that no matter how many bombs we drop in the Levant, there will still be plenty of AR-15s and radicalizable-Muslims over here. If we want to do something about suicide gun attacks in the USA, then we are going to need stricter gun control and more counter-terror investigations.

That sucks dudes You were relatively "lucky" this time, let's hope they are done in America. What do you think what will be done in near future? Keep it under the carpet as good as possible? Try to stomp the radicals in America? Just continue like before? More military action?

That is his right, isn't it? What part of this do you find objectionable? I don't find it very interesting, but also don't consider it a travesty of journalism, especially when compared to everything else out there.

The FBI confirmed that along with the local sheriff. The family members have not been charged and still officially reside there. They didn't show licenses of the dead attackers, it was anyone who lived in the house. And the land lord took a popsicle too, just to make sure it is extra comical.
Journalism isn't a live feed of whatever shit they get access to, unfiltered to the masses without context. And maybe not broadcast the personal information of the random family members, including their SS# on live video to the nation.

Can't help but feel a little spooked wondering what else ISIS has planned Judging by their actions they seemed to have simply too high of an opinion of themselves and too low an opinion of law enforcement's capabilities. They thought they could hit the "soft target" leave a bomb for first responders (which brings my mind to a scene in Mockingjay) and proceed to their real target after reloading. As is typical in these post 9/11 attacks, the public is lucky that terrorists consistently seem to be unprepared/unqualified/unintelligent. Just by the number of bombs they had, they seem to have been under the impression they would be able to commit at least one more mass murder, possibly later that day.

MSNBC & CNN reminding me of why I support NPR.
Also fully expect to see MSNBC be in legal trouble as what they just did on air would be considered tampering with evidence.

From my understanding the apartment was a crime scene and the police had access, but were not done. That is why no one was living in it. It was sealed shut because they were not done and the landlord opened it for "reasons". But he claimed he never invited the reporters inside. He just opened it when they were hanging around with camera crews.
That isn't the landlord prying open that door.

last i checked entering a crime scene and disturbing evidence was a pretty serious crime. And the criminals were kind enough to film themselves doing it to for evidence. Hope they get pursuit to the full extend of the law.

even fox news has the good sense not to pull shit like this. I really hope they pay dearly for it, certain lines are not to be crossed for good reason.

I will laugh for days if they CNN and MSNBC reporters get thrown in jail over this. Have no doubt there is some attorney on their legal teams drinking in his/her office, just pointing at the screen and laughing/crying.
Doublemint: Fox News wasn't there. Lets not let them off the hook that easy. They likely just dodged the bullet.
