One would think it would be pretty easy for the Republican party to shut him down, unless the birtherism, racism, and maniacal egotism, is actually representative of a large swath of the party.
All these issues you listed are overlooked for now because people like his stick-it-to-them style. Once they learn more about him they will turn away. It has nothing to do with those things being representative of the party, espeically since so much of it is just made up in your own head.
roflmao. Practically every person in the country knows how Trump feels about immigrants, birtherism, and his ego.
Are we on the same planet?
EDIT: I think Republicans haven't really been paying attention if they think any of that is going to be a problem, they haven't even got him donating to Hillary to hurt him. If that doesn't work Republican's only hope is to try to talk Christie into going more Trump than Trump since Christie has nothing to lose at this point.
Oh, I agree with 2 out of 3. His ego is ridiculous and the birther thing is stupid. but he's not going to win, and just because you ascribe other qualities to him and then extrapolate to the general electorate (who you already thought were X, Y, Z) doesn't mean anything.
What are you going to say when (if) he loses? No, people like him because of his attitude about politics and politicians. Not for the other reasons you mentioned. Certainly no one likes him for his ego. That's absurd.

If he loses it will probably be because he finally goes too far or for previous liberal positions (not because of any of the negatives the rest of the country sees). Walker is Republican's only hope. Jeb is getting walloped, Rubio has been running non-stop Iran adds on Fox News and it's moved him nowhere. The rest are and always were garnish.
It will be funny to watch Trump lace into Walker when he's ready. I don't think Walker has a chance at not getting dominated in the debate by Trump.
You are clearly oblivious to what racism is, so I won't argue on that. You are totally in denial if you don't think his ego appeals to people (republican primary voters at least).

Yeah, about that... Trump is one of many clowns fit into the same car.
You have to give him credit for staying consistant for 30 years. Trump has been saying the same stuff since 1988
Very true. The only thing that's changed about him is his hair.
The funny thing is he was saying all that after 8 years of Saint Reagan.
Well its not really funny. A lot of what Republicans believe right now is because of how the Democrats "tricked" Reagan in the 80s. The refusal to raise taxes is because Reagan agreed to tax increases in return for spending cuts...that never materialized. The insistence on border security is partially based on how the Reagan amnesty had promises for said security...which were never implemented.
Basically it would be the equivalent of Hillary repealing Obamacare and Medicare in exchange for nationalized healthcare (that never materialized), but also successfully raised taxes on the rich, and kept us out of a China vs. India landwar, and was fairly fondly remembered for those things.

Guessing you didn't watch the video as his critiques had 0 to do with any of that. Well maybe him implicitly calling Reagan a shit negotiator.

I didn't, because a video made by Trump in the 80s is meaningless (even if he says the same things today) because he has been a flip flopper on things if you observe his campaign contributions.

Most of that missed the point, but ok.
I think you just took every aspect of his personality and lumped it into "ego." So ok then. People like, as I said, the way he talks, since it's different than the politicians. of course, you have consistently demonstrated terrible understanding of people on the right, so let's just say I'm more than a little incredulous of your claim. Being obsessed with yourself is not a trait that a large number of people from any demographic would approve of. This displays the above mentioned terrible understanding, in fact.

I think you are underestimating the effect of a strong, dominant, confident presence on the general public. It is easy for people on TL, who I would say are easily above average in terms of intelligence and ability to disconnect from the norm of human culture, to dismiss the appeal of trump. But think about the average person and how they are really just...Not that great. The things that the average man ends up compelled by, without them even really thinking about it, is really disappointing, but it's true all the same.

My point is none of the negatives that most people outside the Republican party see, turns off a large (currently the largest) chunk of Republican primary voters.
If he loses it will be for being too liberal in the past, but he's just going to say that's how you get business done and no one will be able to question him on it because Trump=Business experience. But relentless attack adds might be enough, but if we are to take him at his word he isn't playing to lose so he'll be fighting back if anyone dare take a swipe at him.
EDIT: Basically Republicans aren't overlooking his obvious negatives (they see them just fine) it's the flip-flop aspect that hasn't been fully tried yet that has a shot. Problem is he's going to have a retort just for anyone who tries it. I doubt he floated calling Rubio a flip-flopper before he had his own defense set up.
I guess my question for Republicans is: How long does Trump lead before they realize it's not a fluke?
His ego is a negative, his confidence (and other aspects) appeal to people. But that's true as a general rule. I don't think a whole lot of people looked at Trump having his name plastered everywhere and thought "you know what, I like that!" I mean, there IS a reason almost all politicians try to maintain a calm and measured demeanor, as well as trying to appear humble. Trump is interesting because he doesn't. But it will pass.
Those other things are policy issue and don't relate to what I was focusing on.
What's more interesting is how much the lefties are obsessed with him, when most of them (should) know he isn't going to win.
The other candidates on both sides need to stop hiding from the media so much. Trump is getting much attention because he is easily accessible. Meanwhile Clinton gives one canned speech of a teleprompter and refuses to take any questions and all the republicans are too scared to make a remark that could label them racist, bigot, misogynist, elitist, sexist, etc. You cant win if you dont play.
Is the American right so pathetic that the only thing holding them up these days are conspiracy theories? I love these cries of immunity of criticism when the right has perfected the art of slander, just turn on Fox.
In other words, you do not know what oppression is, you just want to feel that way.

I get the feeling that you are implying liberals are making a big deal out of him purely for the purpose of hurting the GOP. That may be the case for some people, but I am legitimately intrigued. I think the GOP is in somewhat of a disarray right now as it tries to figure out it's identity moving forward. Social conservatism is essentially dead. The GOP used to gain a lot of momentum by milking evangelicals and the like, but it's clearly not sustainable. I think that Trump's complete and total distance from religion makes it easy for him to not turn off younger republicans that aren't quite sure what to rally behind. With so many idiots who are against planned parenthood and shit like that, I imagine it is easy for someone to be like "Ya know what, he's done pretty well for himself so far, so let's see what he can offer".

Because its kind of a stupid attack. Hes never actually personally filed for bankruptcy, nor has Trump Holdings or whatever his core business is. Basically, 4 of his individual ventures have filed for bankruptcy. Now, I don't know enough about the real-estate business to know if he has a good batting average or not, but if he was in silicone valley, or medical (two industries I know better) his batting average would be insanely good.

For me, I can't help but shrug and think "So a guy who declared bankruptcy 4 times is currently worth billions. That has to take some amount of uniqueness."
I don't know much about business, so forgive my ignorance. However, I get the feeling that he does something uniquely well. I don't support him, but I do recognize that it's possible he is uniquely capable of certain things.

You know Sanders isn't avoiding the media the media is avoiding Bernie.
On a separate but related note I think I might of just become a Trump supporter. Like no shit, no troll, a legit Trump supporter for the Republican side at least.
I think the guy reminds me of the best salespeople I've ever seen. This guy is impressive. The Master of Maybe. He uses "maybe"s and "probably"s like I've never seen.
His hyperbole flows effortlessly and his rhetoric is perfectly placed in the political meta.
This is what did it for me.
Watched an interview with Hannity and holy crap, Republicans better hope that Trump doesn't get his financials in by July 16 so they can keep him off the stage (and Jeb can get his in). Just watched 2 videos and he is going to demolish everyone. Like utterly annihilate. The only reason I can imagine Bernie hanging with him is because he is the personification of what he is fighting.
Ok so it wasn't really him who filed for bankruptcy... Fair enough. It's funny, here in my country, we had articles about how Trump was losing money due to sponsors pulling out and I come here and I read he's actually making MORE money out of the thing? I'll never understand your country.

Pretty sure he came out rosey as f*** from those bankruptcies. That's probably why it didn't bother him having all the people think he lost his ass. That's actually better PR than people thinking you made out like a bandit.
I think his numbers are going up before they are going down.
I think, even if the media or other candidates bring up the fact that he's gone bankrupt/ lost money in the past, all he needs to do is say "Bottom line, look at my net worth: billions of dollars. Now go run along while I take my private, jewel-encrusted, 24 karat gold jet to fly to your house and fuck your mom. It's time for Daddy Trump to post his name on another trophy." gg no re.
