(For the mods: Can you change the topic title to Sea joins Team Liquid (or something what is better than that).
So it seems that Sea[Shield] is going to join Team Liquid! Several Korean sites (such as thisisgame and sc2news) have confirmed that Sea is going to join Liquid.
So WhO could it be? What race and whatnot? I Really hope it'S a EU Terran, but I also would like a Korean player (because of the more depth Nazgul wants)
Disappointed that he didn't tweet a sillhuette like when Zenio was recruited.. I had alot of fun matching player profiles to the sillguette, lol
On a more serious note, I think our Zerg-lineup is starting to look dangerously slim, with HayprO retirering at all - I would like to see at least 3 more Zergs before I feel comfortable with this
A terran would probably make the most sense. Whoever it is will be awesome knowing Nazgul and teams record of picking really good talents. I can't wait to find out who!

I hope it's Morrow, he's been teamless for ages and he's a good player.
Hehe I rushed to make the topic ^_^.
So I've been looking at some teamless players and some names who came around were MorroW, Sting (although I keep thinking he is on ST now -_-), Pokebunny (I don't know but he was a great talent from the NA scene though). And I am thinking about Jjakji because NSHS is falling apart right now, and I think he is a possible person to switch teams (especially with going to overseas tournaments a lot which Liquid gives them the chances for).
I think Liquid, and the western scene in general, would be best served by a promising young NA terran/protoss. The problem with this is that for terrans I can only think of Illusion, and no-one for protoss... EU it is then!
I'm thinking european terran or protoss, normally I'd guess Lucifron, but he said he doesn't want to leave Karont3, but Liquid offer could prove irresistible. Otherwise it could be somebody brought to the front by the WCS
Will be hard adding another player considering the success their last addition had! Obviously this is not taken into consideration, but the expectations now will be higher. Which is only a good thing though Thinking another terran, which leads me to believe a korean. GL anyways!
The obvious choices seem: Sting (just because he is good, teamless and terran) Slayers player (slayers have been having trouble, and mma in particular seems to be likely) Morrow (teamless, good, would fit well with liquid, possibly terran in HoTS) Huk (fits very well with Liquid, should have dropped in value now compared to last year, signed contract a bit over 13 months ago so now would be about the time for a switch). Former oGs terrans (most are good players and friends with liquid)
I doubt it will be a KeSPA player. KeSPA and ESF+Slayers has a trade lock for another year, and while Liquid is not technically part of it I don't think they want to step on a lot of the big boys' toes in Korea.
I think it's highly reasonable to expect Liquid to pick up a Terran. A couple months ago I'd have bet good money that they were gonna pick up SuperNoVa since he is good friends and lives with a lot of Liquid players, but since he's no longer teamless, I'm not sure who they'll go for. Whoever it is, though, he'll likely be a skilled Terran who's posted some results and has talent but hasn't made it big yet-- typically TL is good at scouting upcoming talent.
I wonder how long Feast`s contract is still running. He would fit the profile very well (foreign Toss, full time pro, good manners, still has to have his big break-through). He also seems to train a bit with TLO so there is already some connection. Illusion is still in high school, so he could be a bit too young. Morrow would be an interesting prospect too. However he currently only plays Hots and he already seemed to have motivational problems in the last months. So he wouldn`t be of too much help for the remaining tournies this year.
I feel like its definitely going to be a terran since right now Taeja is the only T on the roster. Time to sift through all the free agents. My guess is Morrow but I don't think he has 100% confirmed that he will play terran again. He seems like a perfect fit though!
for some reason i hope they pick low-profile or no-name player that will surprisingly compliment taeja and hero. kinda like the bull's jordan-pippen-rodman lol.

Liquid doesn't really do this anymore though, sadly.
I was browsing the TLPD and 2 teamless players of high calibre are TOP formerly of oGs and Rainbow formerly of ST. I think top might be the obvious choice out of the two since he was in the oGs house at one point. Still rooting for Morrow!
For all the people saying they only have one terran. I don't understand how you can forget: Liquid'PirateTerran Liquid'MoustacheTerran and Liquid'sucksballzwithoutme ... So they really need a protoss with 4 t and 4 z
I don't think it will be another Korean. Liquid decided against picking up Genius because they were happy with their trio of Koreans. Also Liquid just lost two foreigners to retirement. Will most likely be a foreign Protoss or Terran.

I could see TOP. Rainbow's in the army right now.
At the end of the day, it'll be a foreigner, and unless its a completely new pickup, it's gonna be MorroW.
The roster is small enough to warrant at least 2 recruits. Id say 1 foreigner 1 Korean would be good to keep up the balance which Im pretty sure Liquid would like to retain. While there are a number of viable Koreans, the only foreigner that I would like is Lucifron.

San would be the best pickup if they are thinking about a Korean. But it sounds like Nazgul is more concerned about the strength of their terran lineup.

I don't think it will be Morrow. I like him A LOT, but he didn't show any results at all since a year (I think after they nerfed reapers, this was the time when he shined).
Naniwa maybe? Vortix/Lucifron would be sick additions, they are having their prime time atm I think.
Grubby would be super sick as well, but I think it would make problems as he has his own sponsors.

Christ, I would love that so so much.
Grubby isn't just a good enough person and good enough player, because he totally is both, but he is also handsome enough to fit right in.
The more I think of it, the more it makes sense.
He has the presence, the fan-base, he doesn't fit in any team house, he is charismatic and has assloads of media experience. He would benefit TL so much and at the same time profit from all the talent in the team.
Also, the team's average performance of Orc-impersonations would skyrocket.

What? Morrow didn't showed any results?? He may have not won any tournament but he was a big staple at teamleagues and has been playing considerably well.(But he is on a slump right now.)

has nothing to do with being on coL and everything to do with his wrists. He was actually posting some of his best results on coL before his injury.

Teamleagues are pretty much meaningless. He did'nt even play in any major lan tournament like Dreamhack, mlg, wcs, etc.

excellent. Since I just took an unpronounceable username at tl to troll everyone and am Rain/Sun in reality, i got this.
Sting is the only Korean I would consider to be a possibility. When recruiting Koreans TL prefers up and comers with tons of potential rather than being a shelter for has-beens. Zenio is the exception but that was a special case because of Liquid's relationship with oGs and the relative paucity of Korean free agents at the time. Of course if NSHS really is in danger of disbandment then Jjakji becomes the prime candidate.

For a team, team leagues are pretty important. Additionally teams do not necessarily need results to pick up a player. If TL believes Morrow will become a world-class player, then picking him up would make sense and him not having any results would just mean that it would generate more discussion and hype, and they would be able to get away with a lower salary. With Ret and him in ministry of win, they are in a prime position to observe how his skills are developing.
by "depth", Nazgul must have meant Korean. MorroW is suitable for some online teamleague and thats it. It shouldnt be Grubby either unless TL wants to expand their caster division.
That should be someone who can place top4 in MLG/DH/insertforeigntourney and still a force to be reckoned with in Korean. Not Zenio-ish, but Hero-ish. Hmm think about jjakji here
Surprised no1 has mentioned scarlett... She's doing so well as of late and is still on a team that isn't sending her to some of the major events. It actually blows my mind she's still with them, though I'm sure she's happy regardless of what team shes on. Hopefully she gets more opportunity though, she has so much talent

Especially since Nazgul's tweet reads more like "I should look into finding someone" rather than "I have already found someone"
Imagine if they could find a great Protoss player with a huge fan base that is not on a team and live in the same country that another Liquid member, like Ret for example. It would be fantastic.

I'm not teamless =p it's definitely not me, would be a dream though heh
Who is this BitByBit? He was mentioned earlier in this thread. And is @TeamLiquidPro just trolling?
BitByBit was a terran who played very aggressive/cheesy builds in the early days of SC2. His SCV-Trains will be saved forever in our memorys. Then he had to go to military and now he is back.
I don't think they will go after a korean as it would be too much of a shift from the foreign community team they had in mind. Morrow might be a good candidate as he's teamless. An up and coming guy like Babyknight would be awesome too but i think his contract with FXO is nowhere near to expiring.
"add some depth" sounds like "well buddy you are playing very good but you can help the team on the bench too!"
Maybe they looking for some foreigner T/P To build up and make better, or they want a Code A/S Zerg. Yes they have "a lot" of Zergs bot no one at the highest level so they would have a much higher chance at teamleagues.
If they could pick up another A/S class player they could get another shot at gstl.
I don't care who it is! I just like the excitment of knowing that we have a new player to look forward to! Would like to see another Terran, or maybe a strong Zerg.
EDIT: Just thought about it, and it would be sick to get Grubby!
I think Liquid'MorroW is a good possibility. Liquid seems to go for players who are very manner and dedicated (not that other players aren't). In that vein I somewhat doubt Liquid'NaNi considering his personality in the past seems to have conflicted with other teams (I still love the guy). Also - I don't think another Zerg because they already have like 4. I guess race probably doesn't matter so much as personality in Liquid's eyes - which is probably a good thing. I would look at the nicest teamless players - although they already have Sheth and HerO and TLO and NonY and their whole roster who all seem like really great guys. Waitaminute.... guys.... what if it's a chick :O!
nazgul in one interview stated TL will recruit based on potential that will be embraced by the team, not a already established player /w many big achivements. Would like it to be MaNa, but dunno if he suits to mentioned statement.
Hmm.. TeamLiquid does have lots of Zerg, else getting both Lucifron and Vortix could be an option. But they might be happy being on their own private team at the moment.
Crazy dream would be danish Terran player Dreambunny. :p

I don't see why they should pick up MorroW. He hasn't shown any good results lately, e.g. currently beeing last in the PokerStrategy.com League (in fact the only player who didnt win a BO10 yet). He has been in Korea for quite a while, but not showing a lot of improvement. Lately he seems to be focusing on HotS, but also not performing all that well in the Beta-Cups. I also remember a interview where he stated, that he doesn't really enjoy playing WoL anymore.
Could see Liquid'Morrow happening just to replenish the Zerg count again. :D Hoping for a Terran (Sting?) or a Protoss (ManZenith San?). Very excited nonetheless.
They have enough zergs, and WAY too many terrans (Taeja counts for like, 5 Korean terrans). It'll be a protoss, but the question is who. Any teamless Korean protoss around?
I just dont think morrow would be a good choice yes hes teamless but hes just not it.. sorry morrow fans...
if i could dream i would say(in no particular order): TossGirl (would be so awesome) Savior (i know hes banned but one can dream) MMA (i would shit some huge bricks) jjakji (would be a smart and awesome pick) Puzzle (just because hes awesome) Scarlett (well acer is one crappy team sorry fans) Huk (like everyone else on TL he belongs to Liquid not greedy EG) Artosis (he has been secretly training for a year now to make is comeback :D) Stork (just because is my fav. bw player of all time)
I don't think the race is what he means with the depth. Probably just play style and numbers for team leagues, and some more players who can snipe the best of the best.

If he would decide to focus on Sc2 Krass would be an interesting prospect.
Btw. I`m really wondering why Nazgul made that tweet. He certainly didn`t post a tweet about a thought that just came across his mind and as he knew about Jinro/Haypro leaving for ages he must have monitored the transfer market closely in the last months. So as the available players are quite obvious maybe he wants to see the TLers reaction about some possibilities.

From those alternatives, Morrow would be more likely... Not that I think it will be Morrow but come on.
Of all the names that people toss up in this thread, Sting would be the pickup that makes sense. Teamless with lots of talent and he's been helping a lot of monsters as a practice partners. Also generally good manners.
Also Grubby joining the team makes no sense to me, I feel he has his own thing going on at the moment.
Most Likely The most likely is Sting, given that he has an unorthodox playstyle, hasn't peaked in skill yet, is well-mannered, is teamless, and made a very good impression on foreigners in TSL4.
Possible Anybody from Woongjin Stars or Team 8, since both of those teams have few sponsors and are on the verge of disbanding. Names to look out for are Soulkey, Light, Movie and ZerO. (Not Jaedong, since if he's transferring to any team, it would be one with a strict practice regiment like SlayerS or Samsung KHAN.)
Possible but Unlikely TOP is teamless and really good, but as a former semifinalist, his skill is probably considered to have peaked; plus he does not seem to have any presence in any major leagues or tournaments anymore. There's also San and InCa, the SC2 Hyuks, but they're considered gimmicky players and are more known for their tragic blunders. Naniwa, arguably the best foreigner of 2012 in getting to Code S Ro8 twice, is possible; but his history of bad manner and team hopping wouldn't mesh well with Liquid's familial business. Morrow isn't good enough to compete on a Code A level, so if he's picked, it would be more for advertisement than as a serious competitor. Since NSHS is doing very poorly, it's also entirely possible that jjakji, Sculp, Seal or Tassadar could be scavenged, but it's generally thought that team scavenging is EG's card, not Liquid's.
Only in Your Dreams Anybody from Airforce ACE. Players go there when they're in the military, not get handsome salaries. The team's dead but that probably means the end of their careers unless some KePSA arrangement is made. MMA, HuK, Flash, Dragon, BitByBit, MarineKing, Destiny.
Since Haypro and Jinro retired recently, and I assume TLO and Sheth will follow shortly, they will probably add some top Korean(s), or at least promising Korean(s).
There are some foreigners I could see joining the team, but they would probably ask for more than your average Korean would ask for. Less bang for you buck, if you will.

Majority of players don't have any titles, but they still bring home the wins in tournaments. First place is not everything.

Because I'm not a fan of TL because of the quality of their players, I'm a fan because of the team atmosphere and community involvement. They already have two faceless korean mercenaries (Zenio/Taeja) who I'm not fans of, I'd prefer they pick up a foreigner rather then adding another Korean simply so they can attempt to ride Taeja through GSTL.
Well going by the players available at the moment there aren't many great ones unless they take from an established team. Id hope that it will be a non-korean too.
Plz MMA lol, I can watch TvX all day every day. j/k but I think TLO and Zenio is weak compare to herO and Taeja so another Zerg might help them to snipe some necessary players
It will either be a ex-oGs player or a SlayerS player. I don't think Morrow. He's had his prime of his career and it'd be stupid for a huge team like Liquid to pick him up.

Or at least, I'm pretty sure they said something like this a while ago.
They need another player in Korea to apply for GSTL unless they are having someone already on the team move over there.
They should have ozsuckballswithoutme and liquidsukballswithoutme on the same team! =) Ofc will never happen.
Knowing liquid approach it will not be a star player, rather one who is showing some promising performance but still in the development. And it should be T.

The thing is, the twitter update said someone to add "depth" to the team.. Wanting to add someone for depth to the team typically means a more veteran player.
Also, I doubt they would pick up Scarlett because they know there would be way too much drama/dispute following that if it did happen. Highly unlikely.
It's obviously a joke with "tomorrow" and Morrow because I don't Nazgul is just going to decide randomly that he'll be picking another player tomorrow...
Excited nonetheless to know who it's going to be ! Liquid Fighting !
I really hope they pick up a Korean player. Liquid is one of the few foreign teams that benefits their Korean players in more ways than just a healthy salary. Personally, I'd love to see TOP get picked up but idk if he has the potential to become a top class player again.
I hate to be the cynic, but picking up a foreigner at this point would be pretty worthless.

I'd like jjackji because I feel like he could blossom at liquid. He isn't really in a good environment at the moment... At least, that's what I perceive without knowing the inner workings of nshs. LiquidLegend would be cool ^^

How is that a joke? It's a play with words that don't make any sense.
It's gonna be Korean for sure. They're the only ones winning them games. I just hope it wont be another Zenio. They recruited him after he got knocked out of GSL in a pretty convincing fashion and showed pretty much nothing since the teamswitch.

I would get banned if I said what I really think, so I'm just going to say she doesn't fit into the team.
If you are not going to say what you actually mean you might as well say nothing.
If it's a Korean Protoss my bets are on San the Man. He fits Liquids bill pretty well imo. MorroW is a great guy, but I don't really see him improving TL or having any major impact.
Quoted the wrong post >< too tired, going to sleep!
In Liquid Rising, they said that they wanted Team Liquid to be a team in which players can do better and achieve more than they could've done on their own or on their previous teams. And personally, if there's ever such a player, it's Scarlett. Whenever she comes out to play a game, she turns heads or ends up being the best one in Canada or even North America, but mostly she just sits at home, not streaming. Team Liquid could send her places and definitely make her achieve more than she could have at home with her slow internet. Even if she doesn't get signed (or somehow announced) tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised to see her picked up by Liquid in the future. I'd say the only thing speaking against her is that she's a zerg and currently on another team.
Other than that, I think Liquid could easily pick up someone surprising, like one of the foreigners living in Korea or one of the runner-ups for the continental WCS finals or something like that.

Depth means not being totally dependent on Taeja and Hero to win. What does that have to do with a veteran player?

Why is Hero not included. ?????
Hero has does interviews, we hear random stories about hero from other members of liquid, Hero shows personality. We've gotten to know Hero as a person.
They aren't going to look for more depth in the department of Protoss less than a day HerO get's knocked out of GSL it's kind of a kick in the teeth to him really. Definitely will be Terran, and probably one from SlayerS as they are pretty much about to fold (or so that's what i'm led to believe by the current situation)
If they wanna have depth in their team there is no doubt thats ITS NOT a Zerg....
atm there are no super solid free agents,,, EU terrans makes no sense since they are the worst of all.
So it will be an EU/KR Toss or KR terran. Other decisions would barely make sense...
With all respect to Haypro and Jinro, but it shouldn't be hard to fill this gap with a player getting ANY results....Haypro even proofed everybodys suspicion that he even barely practises (Take interview).
Liquid should start to get efficient players not "family-like" ones. As soon as Taeja will get an offer of ANY BW-Team with shitloads an money his gone. Should be really boring for a player to solo-carry a team day in day out and be the only terran too.
Liquid is just living through Hero and Taeja..
In 1/2 year this transfer restriction between GOM and kespa ends -> cya Taeja, cya Hero if there will not be a competitive lineup in TL
If foreign teams will still carry their "commercial / "family-team" trend sc2 will follow the same route like BW.
Koreans will get super bored of the West and kespa will just give a **** about us. BW players are already declassing former GSL champs after 3 months of practise ... good job. Sc2 was a little playground of B-Teamer. Now the real RTS geniuses will tke place in the scene.
Success > familyteams polly pocket 10 year barbiepartys
Just get 1-2 more good players and Liquid atleast has an existence chance in higher rounds of tourneys. Taeja is definately able to compete with everybody. Hero just cot outclassed and outplayed in every element of the game by SKT1 Rain today -> GL TLO......

On the other hand, it would be freaking amazing if they did!
I'm betting Beasty's screwing with everyone, and it's going to be a "relatively unknown" Korean Terran. MMA allegedly is commanding too much money, and they didn't want to pay Genius, so it just doesn't make sense for it to be him.
Morrow's also a possibility, but Nazgul could have just been using the word tomorrow in, well, it's regular context.

I'm sorry but I think the philosophy of TL was never "let's get all the best players so we can win everything". There's a lot of character that goes into decisions. And to be honest, I love TL precisely because of the family. I honestly don't care if Hero could've beaten Rain or not. I just wanted to see Hero play. TL really gave him a chance to shine and he's getting better and better. I'd rather not have TL focus all on winning.

I don't think it's gonna be Morrow, he didn't played any tournament at all during 2012, and besides his IEM win, he didn't scored any impressive achievement. Plus, it's hard to tell what is his level right now, he's playing only HotS, which is still in beta, and he's relearning a race (which means he's way behind in term of skills) so to me, atm it's not a good choice.
Pick up fucking STING. I swear to god I will be so upset if they don't pick him up. he has such a positive attitude, despite his situation.
And he's just extremely meticulous about the way he prepares and plays vs opponents in tournaments, on top of his excellent fundamentals and game sense.

If Liquid is intent on investing in the future, and Morrow is investing a ton of time into HotS, it makes perfect sense, assuming he can be a top player when HotS comes out. He can be afaik.

top player in what sense? the foreign scene? possibly. The global scene? Uhh nope not when the koreans transition to hots fulltime
No one expected fucking STING to do anything during his TSL4 run: he was teamless, he was one of those invisible Korean Terrans out there that people didn't really care about. And yet round after round, he showed his skill and his complete focus on making it as far as he could. Each interview he gave just showed a player who wanted to make an impression on a foreign audience.
Liquid, support this man and give him a chance to show what he's capable of. Sting has nothing right now but his mouse and keyboard ;;
Am I reading too much into the announcement have 'tomorrow' in it though?
I think so. I think it just means they're announcing it tomorrow. TL isn't EG.
I really think it has to be Elfi. nobody else stands out in my mind. In fact, when Nazgul posted in the DH Valencia thread, I wondered at the time, 'are they picking him up? Nazgul nearly never posts about random players like this'. Now they announce a pickup...
I mean, I guess a Terran would be more technically likely since they only have one Terran, but NonY is pretty inactive nowadays anyways, and I think Victor has said many times that they don't pick people up that way-- they just snag someone if the person and time is right, rather than say 'okay, we need a Terran, who should we get'. Besides, Morrow is zerg.

He's no MVP (but who is?), but his Mech play really does make me want to get better with my mech in WoL.

Don't panic. Liquid won't touch this thing... I hope Acer has contracted it for like 20years.
Its Sting... /END use your brains, guys.
Amazing you can function in the modern world as a mouth breathing, knuckle dragging bigot. Scarlett is a human being, not a "thing". Welcome to 2012 bud. Bigotry is pretty 1998.
Out of curiosity, why 1998? As to the topic at hand, my vote goes to TOP!
starcraft brought a revolution of intelligent thought to the world.
Ahh yes, the battle between Terran, Zerg, and Protoss truly put things in perspective, and hate was put aside in favor of solidarity in the face of galactic annihilation. Join arms, brothers and sisters, for the fight still rages on.
I'd think a terran on the team would be good, especially one with a good tvp, seeing how tvp is taeja's worst match-up (for whatever that's worth.). Don't really know any names for that function.
Isn't there this 14 year old GM-Terran from NA? (considering taking you talents from NA)
On a more likey point, it's going to be a more established player with some experience. I'd love to see MMA, but I'm pretty sure he won't join non-korean team, so we'll see.
Actually, that isn't that hard to imagine. Out of the BW pros that transitioned, Sea seemed to be grasping the idea of SC2 rather fast. And even though he was inconsistent in Proleague, I feel like he has a lot of potential.
The Terran played SsonLighT on stream in the playhem last night, spoke korean and was a Terran using Bumblebee's NA account.
Definitely a korean terran. Who it is I don't know. Didn't take the best engagements, but did multitask and drop well so I have no clue who it would be. It definitely wasn't Taeja playing in the playhem though. Definitely not.
Hm, Sea did not have the best record in the hybrid proleague, but on the other hand the hybrid proleague was a forgettable bastard of a league, so we can't really judge his skill. We'll see, if it is true of course.

Your point makes zero sense.
Hero has plenty of plenty, Taeja has almost none, Zenio is even worse. TL has really failed to help the fans connect with Taeja and Zenio.
Taeja has a huge fan base. Where have you been?
Taeja has one because he wins, nothing else if he started to lose every game he's just fade away. We don't know anything about Taeja the person, just his record.
Hm, too bad Liquid cant sign MMA cause of 'integrity' stance, although i bet MMA himself would surely join if not slayers. But Sea is great addition, nevertheless.

If Slayers dies, he'll probably join Axiom. Him and Crank are bros. AxMMA also sounds sweet.
Godly at Proleague. Never was able to transfer his Proleague bonjwaness to OSL/MSL. If you had to compare him to a SC2 player's career, it would be Bomber.
He's also only 22, which is quite young when he's been playing for seven years. Very good player if he transitions well.
He was an amazing Proleague player, and showed a lot of great play, but always crumbled when it came to OSL or MSL. He was that kind of player that was expected to when a Starleague sooner or later, kind of like Bomber.

It would help if he streamed ladder like hero does, except Taeja doesn't stream for purpose of having his practice studied by other players.
Taeja did stream in the past. It was during the time when he won nearly every ESV weekly tournament. His ladder stream was the best and most entertaining I have watched and it was what made me a fan of him. He offraced and randomed a lot and still crushed top Korean Terrans with funny Protoss builds ;-)
If TL signs Sea...TL would instantly become my 2nd favorite team after Rolster Sea[Shield] has been a veteran in sc:bw and a top 15 Kespa players for 5+ years until the recent 2011-2012 PL Season. It would make sense because he has extremely good reputation as been an amicable and friendly person (one of the few koreans Khaldor remains close to on Facebook) and has been open to the foreign scene for a while.
With Sea, you have veteran leadership, an extremely solid Terran behind Taeja once he catches up (at least his mechanics/positioning is ridiculously good) although...the implication that T8 Might be derailing is a bit demoralizing.
On October 04 2012 09:00 CygnusAres wrote: Erm, I didn't follow BW too much, but who is better in team 8? Baby or Sea?
Sea is the veteran, Baby is the up and coming. SC2 wise, it's clearly baby. Sea has more accolades and formerly the Ace of MBCGameHero so he provides leadership
The sc2news guy who posted that thread about Sea joining Liquid has made some eerily accurate posts in the past. His "news from Korea indicates" has almost always been true despite coming out a bit before the official announcements.
Sea joining Liquid would be the coolest thing ever, though. Wasn't he close enough to some Liquid people that he appeared on a BW Team Liquid Attack back in the day?
In a dream world it would be Grubby (+ Cassandra for videos considering how lacking european video coverage is) as he has everything Liquid look for in a person and player. And in this perfect world he'd bring his sponsors with him to Liquid. I mean who wouldnt wanna be affiliated with Liquid.
If not Grubby then hope its some type of foreigner to keep the balance in the team.

Given Liquid's mentality towards team building, I would think so.
Given the recent success of LIquid with IPL Hero and Taeja ripping it up in GSL and some increased traffic with Dota2 on their site.. Paired with the retirement of Jinro and Haypro They probably have a little bit of a bank opened up to sign a new player or two.
my guess is either one of slayers (no MMA though, he will follow boxer to SKT imo) or morrow? but his lack of recent results is not very convincing although his personality fits great to Liquid´s philosophy.

What does liquid's mentality towards team building have to do with being able to afford $$$ a dota team?
Nazgul has always said that he views Liquid as a group of friends rather than just a team. So he won't recruit based on results alone. They have to also mesh well. With that sort of thinking it is my belief that acquiring a top dota team wouldn't be big priority, but instead assembling a collection of players who are dedicated to getting better and growing under the liquid brand.

As far as i know, yes. Especially with Manifesto. (And Nazgul?)
Not to mention, Sea did tweet to Mani on august 21st that there might be good news "next month". So who knows if he meant joining Liquid all along.

Sea going to Liquid would actually make the most sense of any player, though I'm not really aware of how his contract(if there is any) with Kespa 8 works.
If Taeja and Sea are both in the same team, (as long as Sea is as good at SC2 as he was at BW) doesn't that make Liquid pretty much unbeatable in teamleagues? (outside of Proleague since the BW teams are awesome in teamleagues) O_O

Let's be honest here, Tyler aint getting results and isn't exactly helping HerO in competitive practice.

Yeah! Liquid always likes to get up and coming players and Sea is undoubtedly one of them. HerO was extremely talented but had no tournament experience/results and now look at him! TaeJa was sick good but had little tournament experience and looked shaky in his play.

You underestimate Tyler's strategical mind and experience.
I would be absolutely amazed if, after all these years, Liquid got to pick up Sea! Even if it isn't and it's simply rumors, I am simply excited that Nazgul has decided to pick up another player for the team especially after Jinro and Haypro sadly retired.
I'm certain that whatever player that Liquid has chosen, it will certainly be welcomed by all the community members! (Hopefully)
If this really is Sea[shield], I will be really happy. One of the first BW pros to connect with foreign fanbase, always had a big potential, just couldn't break through. I also saw him post in goodbye BW blog, could be a sign?

Sea did mention on his facebook few days ago that its time for him to get serious again. Either it means he went back to practice mode or trying harder in a new team.
What I can say, however, is EffOrt went back to practice house pretty recently, slightly later than the date Sea posted his status.

The deal was between KeSPA and eSF. Not with all foreign teams.

Why would it mean Team8 dispanded? Sea has pretty close relations and friends with TeamLiquid members, Team 8 has been struggling to find a sponsor(s) for a long time and Sea has been in a Kespa team for years, so why not join with something new.
There's arguments to be made for some TSL4 folks and unsigned Koreans, but the gut decision is I'd love to see Grubby on TL. KESPA guys would be cool, but I don't think I'd get behind them so much, Grubby is already a known variable in the foreigner scene as an awesome guy.

I never really saw the hype of Sea in BW. I guess he was good at Proleague? It would be really interesting if he was the new recruit though. I wouldn't mind.

You forgot Iris.
Sea was notable not just because he was good but never won an individual title, but because he put up incredible results in Proleague and then flamed out wicked early in the MSL/OSL. Like, Ro16 early.

Didnt sea drop out of top 25 of bw for the first time in like 6-7 years this year? I remember there was a huge deal about it..
Sea's equivalent is Bomber. He usually rips apart Team Leagues, former Ace, solid is all match ups. But he was never successful in individual, and the definition of choker. I don't think he's made it past ro8, despite all his success.
Sea's struggled in sc2..so there's some worry about that..but the mechanics..he definitely has.

You can just make a new thread now that the speculation is gone,
TL probably has their own huge front page article ready to go to announce it, though.
Wonder if they are pissed about having their big news leaked early?
I don't think It's a huge deal, it can be the new worst kept secret in esports for another 12-18 hours and then they print it. Not everyone will see this thread anyway, although it is at the top of Reddit.

This is kespa, they don't like their players going to other teams. If they hate the idea of players going to esf, how are they going react to foreign teams picking up kespa pros. Reason and tolerance are not kespa's virtues.

True it is Kespa, but I would imagine they'd be happier about him going to a Foreign team then to esf really. Not about reason or Tolerance either, it's about money which they don't have. Not having to pay Sea+ The chance to try and put up a good image to the newer foreign fans in the sc2 scene will imo override any chance of backlash.
I'm not saying they would be happy about about. I'm merely saying they aren't going to be pissed and that I doubt we will see any backlash.

Sea was also a Good player in BW I think he was top 30(?) for the majority of his career. Just always seemed to choke/die out in individual leagues. Never really got his break out tournament, A perfect pick up for Teamliquids stance of recruiting players then helping them achieve more. With his Mechanics I can see him taking down a Foreign tournament or two....

I don't really think Sea is a make or break a sponsorship deal kind of player. Not when T8 still has Jaedong anyway. but it is true him leaving could hurt chances of getting a sponsor, but seeing as they couldn't find one the whole time he was there I don't think that is a factor.

Silly to use that as a gauge of any measurement though because their peaks were at different times (Sea's before Flash's).
I remember attributing Sea's decline, in my head, to a bad team atmosphere at MBC. Hopefully, it's something easy to fix like that and not loss of motivation or whatever.
So happy to see TL going after some real talent. Who do you think is going to benefit more from this though, Taeja or Sea? Either way, TL Terran lineup is boss.

what makes you think we (or I) didnt know? What has that got to do with what I said?
Team 8's Sea will be transferring over to Team Liquid, an overseas team.
An eSports associate called Daily eSports on October 4th and stated that "In order for Sea to pursue his overseas dream, they have allowed him to transfer." Sea will be the second KeSPA player that switched over to a overseas team. The first being Sson (M18M).
Sea was already in good terms with Team Liquid players from back in the MBC HERO days, and so it was revealed later on that he had officially been accepted.
Team Liquid is an overseas pro gaming team that is being run by former pro gamer Victor Goosens. TL's current Korean roster consists of TaeJa, Zenio, and HerO. Since TL has only one Terran player in TaeJa, Sea transferring over can only mean that Liquid's roster will receive an upgrade.
The associate stated that "Sea wanted to experience being in an overseas team before having to join the army. Therefore, we had no desire to deny his wish to transfer."
Sea has a record of 10-6 in the SC2 division for SK Planet ProLeague tournament, where he was the backbone for Team 8 along with BaBy. Losing Sea will inevitably mean that Team 8 will have to suffer through a heavy loss.
For people who don't know, Sea was a legitimately good BW player (one of the very top on MBC [/MBSea]) for a long time, but choked hard in individual leagues. He was well ahead of players like MVP/MC, and also better than forgg apart from the brief time when forgg won the MSL and seemed good. Of course this stuff means less with the KeSPA teams having made the switch, but there is no doubt that among the non-KeSPA teams he is now one of the best from BW.
He was one of the first and only Koreans to interact with TL when the Korean scene was very insulated and our exposure mostly consisted of Artosis doing a news show and once in a while releasing a video (like following ret or nony to courage, or meeting up with idra or tasteless), or rekrul posting some sensationalist vague hints at the Korean scene (I miss those). Sea even did a quite good TL attack with the help of a translator at a time where people where lucky to find replays of pros.
He has not been that good for quite some time now (at least a year, probably closer to 2). However he has been having team troubles with his old team disbanding, and his new team having a hard time finding sponsors and generally not seeming like the best practice environment. This may well explain Sea's drop in results.
If Sea still has the motivation, then I have no doubt he can become a top player again.
TL's current Korean roster consists of TaeJa, Zenio, and HerO. Since TL has only one Terran player in TaeJa, Sea transferring over can only mean that Liquid's roster will receive an upgrade.
We still have Ret and Tyler and TLO, No love for them

Tyler and TLO are pretty much B teamers considering the Korean talents Liquid is having.
Why is there speculation on who it is.. isn't he just saying he thinks the team needs a little more right now? I mean, I would feel the same especially if jinro and haypro just retired

How has Sea been doing in SC2? Haven't heard a lot of hype about him recently.
God, please not a Terran. And I really hope it's not Morrow. I am starting to.like Liquid . . . if it's anyone but NaNiwa or Genius, I'll be extremely disappointed. By FAR the best teamless players right now, and it isn't even close. You clearly know nothing about Liquid if you thought that was even a remote possibility that Naniwa would be considered, even if he wanted to join Liquid for free (no salary).

Overseas pretty much means "out of the country, far away" in this case. And technically, if you travel from Seoul to Europe, you will go over the Yellow Sea.

Well, the site literally called up KeSPA who gave them a direct response about Sea and Liquid. The rumors were already flying around beforehand, so it was only a matter of time before someone got solid info from the officials.
Sea was ridiculous. Really good SC:BW Pro (way better than NesTea, MMA, MC, etc... were). I've had dinner / wine with him in Korea, super friendly / nice guy as well. He speaks some english and is the type of player and person the TL community would appreciate. I've spoken to him recently and he is 100% focusing on SC2 atm. If TL got Sea, I would never root against them.
Interesting pick up. Hopefully this guy can live up to expectations and really shine in both Korean and foreign tournaments. Strong Liquid line up = sexy time.

This is a huge pick up by Nazgul . Sea is really a hardworking proffesional . This is the second player i'll root for in TL after Ret . Sea does seem to get fewer chances in PL and individual leagues nowadays so i think it's a good move for him . It would suck for Team 8 and i hope that they can also do well in the future .
Interestingly, that would bring Liquid roster to 2 Shield clan members, perhaps opening up a possibility to sign more in the future, possibly a certain Protoss player?

Still, looking at NaDa, BoxeR, and kind of July, they just had outbursts of passion, and eventually all just sort of burned out.
It's not a fair comparison because they've already had their glory, but still you can't help but wonder if a person can really keep playing for so long without getting a little weary.

Yeah, I agree. It is a fair comparison too, in terms of length of career etc. Then again, if anything can reinvigorate Sea at this point, it is a move like this, and Liquid staff are usually on the ball when it comes to evaluating players overall and they've probably seen something more than a former Proleague legend in him.
A few months ago they turned down Genius and said they're not looking to sign another Korean player, so one can only hope they've seen something promising enough to make them change their mind.
That said, I wouldn't expect too much either, maybe a solid team league winrate and occasionally qualifying for individual leagues.

I think this has been discussed before the signing and he will not lack motivation. I'd love to see how his training with Taeja will go.

Trade lock is between KeSPA and eSF teams, not foreign teams

I think it's less about countries, and more about the fact that Koreans just seem a little colder and distant because of the language barrier and the relatively higher skill they posses.
Whoa Sea motherfucking Shield! He was incredibly good back in the day, a Power Rank regular, Proleague beast, and best player never to have made it far in an individual league. I remember when he out-multitasked 3 people in team melee when he played on TL Attack! A Korean progamer interacting with Teamliquid and the foreign community was completely unheard of. I'm sure he'll be more entertaining to have on the team than Taeja and Hero, no offense.

You will like Sea quite a bit. He has a real nice personality and is really passionate. I still remember that one game this past hybribad proleague when Jaedong held on a 10 pool all in from Soulkey with 15 hatch, where Sea just stood up intensely watching how his teammate Jaedong will hold.

There is bigger cultural disconnect between Asia and West than it is for America and Europe. I think its pretty standard stuff, isn't it?

You did not ask me but since I am a German, too, I like to reply. I identify with any human who is decent. But I do so as a human, not as a German. "As a German" is a non sequitur.

Worried about T8's roster next season...perhaps that GSTL-Proleague interaction league will actually become a reality.
I love Sea <3 oh my this is such a brilliant transfer!!!!!!!!
SC2 guys, you can trust me, I know BW players. Sea was probably relatively cheap (not cheap cheap, but not like let's say Roro expensive) because his results have been a little bit lackluster recently. But there was quite a bit of compulsive bad luck involved. he is so fucking talented. Macro? Micro? Strategic thinking? All high level. And such a cool guy. In terms of talent for the buck this was the best fucking deal ever (well, after Taeja) GJ TL!!!

If you'd like to get to know Sea a bit better (and even catch some MC, MKP, Ret and Artosis cameos) you should really consider watching Hyungjoon Becomes a Progamer.

really amazing job
If TL menages to make Sea a top tier player again i will suriously put TL just behind KHAN for that alone
Watching Sea kinda not deliver in last seasons was painful. And he is a guy you don't want to see lose. You cannot not like him.

pretty much this exactly. I am sure the players have an awesome personality and crack dumb jokes all the time. But I don't understand them, so they feel more distant to me. Pretty much all of the foreign scene is centered around english, so it is more easy for me to identify with them.
My sympathy goes from personal favorites, countrymen to foreigners in general, and I think this is true for many people in the community.
And yes, Sea might be an awesome dude, but there has no foreign addition to TL since sheth over a year ago, with 3 guys leaving the team since then, Nony being mostly inactive too. I really would like to see some new foreign guy cracking up the scene.

Alright so u don't think the same about Hero, TaeJa and Zenio as u do with Ret, TLO sheth etc ?
Imo it doesnt matter at all if they are korean or not, sure the language barrier will always be there but i actually like the koreans more than the foreigners because you can really see how much they are trying to communicate with the fans.
(not that i dont like the foreigners in liquid its just that u can see how hard they work and tries to be as good as possible)
Screw this language barrier rubbish. Its the results that count, look at Taeja and Hero, they have a shit tonne of fans and they cant speak much English. Infact these were 2 guys who spoke Spanish to the crowd in Valencia not too long ago, making them love them even more. And in Liquid's case, it seems they want a genuine personality too, and from what I've read from his history, he seems to meet that criteria too. Sorry but if you want those out there "bad-ass" personalities who like to entertain by putting down others, Liquid is the wrong place to look for that. EG is where you will find that.
Also, people seem to forget this, but Sea was one of the most open players in Korea, and even participated in a TL Attack. Also, MBC players have always been the most non-korean of all, they don't have this super shy attitude and the "please cheer for me, I'll show great games" attitude.

So racism is okay if your country of heritage hasn't been historically involved in such matters?! Wow... Well I just want the best player to win and if the Koreans have the best conditions/training regiments to be the best, why should I not root for them?! Nothing hinders foreign teams to do so as well... This foreigner bias is at least as much retarded as a lot of people around here seem to be... I mean, please re-read your post and confirm that you mean what you just wrote there... Really... Seriously?!?!
People really need to stop saying racism when that's not what's going on. Its not racist to say that the lower degree of fan interaction that most Korean players have with fans puts you off. Would it be racist for me to say that i am really interested in the american election, but not really in the French, German, or Indian elections? Thats almost entirely because its far easier to follow something in a language you understand. However, it would be racist if someone was a big quantic fan, but refused to support illusion because hes not white, which isn't at all what is going on. I'm using him as an example, but you could also give the example of Violet, who has a pretty decent fan base, and a large part of that is down to the fact that he can speak English pretty well. its just less easy to draw comparisons to a teamless player, because its much harder to say that the only difference is race. Im pretty sure illusion is american, or at least has lived there most his life, but i dont think that affects the main point Misusing the term does nothing to prevent racism, and if you know that half the time someone calls racism its not, then actually calling someone like destiny out becomes much harder, and its much easier for people to pretend they didn't do anything wrong, or are the victim of some hateful smear campaign.

I didn't actually know that Liquid was in the process of recruiting someone new, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised since 2 guys just retired. If anyone, I was expecting a Liquid Supernova because he lives in the Liquid team house (apartment) in Korea.
As for Huk, pretty sure Nazgul said that he still liked Huk as a friend, but as Team Liquid's manager, he wouldn't put him back on the team because he left for another one that paid more.

have a nice day...
"if your country has historical issues with racism, that's your deal. don't force your collective shame on others." It's particulary this phrase which tipped me off, u know... While I agree that the term racism is a bit overused/misused in this context, I find it utterly important to be as sensitive to this as you can be (and that might as well come from my country's history, aside with our lack of patriotism, which is overall a good thing in our more and more globalized society). I'm no friend of this overdone political correctness thing, but it's a pretty small margin... Sorry for indirectly labeling you, I'm sometimes going a bit over the top with these things, but so much stuff you read on the web is just SO god damn stupid and ignorant and people don't even realize... That really hurts my brain! However, I want to apologize and thank you for making you point of view clear(er)
Have a nice day yourself and in the end it's all about StarCraft, ain't it?
EDIT: But I never called anyone around here a racist, just to make myself clear, it was more of a debate about problems with racism overall!

Stephano makes $96,000 a year, which is about $8,000 a month. Of course, Stephano is a foreigner, so he will get a higher salary (it sounds incredibly stupid, but let's face it, it is true).
That being said, one must remember that MMA is a 2 time GSL champion...

According to Quantic's CEO Mark Ferraz he's still shopping around for a team and wants 4,000$ a month. Liquid might not want to pay that much. Most teams wouldn't.
WTH, $4000 per month, is this even possible for the best SC2 player right now? He's not even in code S any more.
$4000 a month is like less that half of what Stephano is being paid at the moment.

Stephano's salary is also still just a rumor, same goes for idra/huks. All koreans think that foreigner get way more money then they actually do, so they ask for way more than any normal foreign team could offer, it's really common.
