Actually nice of you to bring this up.
Because yeah, just about every other pro player out there thinking it's all cool to throw around racial slurs on the ladder.
So if you know any other pro players going "gook" or other racial slurs out there just post the screenshots here and let the community decide and tell the sponsors (and Blizzard for that matter) if they find it acceptable.
thanks for asking.
I take that to mean you emailed quantic's sponsors in this case? Shame on you. I'd like to see the people who emailed the sponsors actually admit to it in this thread, but I doubt they will. And it's telling that they aren't willing to admit it. How do you feel about doing damage to Quantic and it's other players before even giving Quantic a chance to respond? You're Swedish - do you consider yourself a fan of Naniwa? What if he's going to lose some benefits as a result of this? What if this has caused him and other Quantic players worry which hurts their practice mindset? Was there no other way to communicate your opinion to Quantic than to go straight to their sponsors?
I think that deep down, the people who contacted the sponsors realize that it wasn't really to carry the banner of justice and do the right thing for esports. It was just to fulfill some cynical urge in them to be destructive and incite drama. And that's why I haven't seen a single person in this thread admit to it directly (though someone correct me if I've missed it).
The bottom line is that you're doing more harm than good. We would be better off without you as a "fan".
Now let's see if any of them will admit to it in response to this, or if they will just continue to hide in their little holes.
I'm not saying that I think that professionals should be allowed to say whatever they want when they're representing corporations. Once the reddit trolls got ahold of this, Quantic and Destiny HAD to split ways.
The anonymous internet pitchforking and bullying is just as bad as anonymous hateful speech.

You know what's not good for esports? Supporting racism, sexism and homophobia. You know what scares off sponsors? Being seen as supporting racism, sexism and homophobia. The best thing the esports community can do is rid itself of as much of these things as possible instead of trying to sweep them under the carpet or say they're just part of the scene so people have to deal with it.

If people don't want their lives ruined they shouldn't spout racist, sexist or homophobic insults 24/7. If they do want to do that then they're bad for esports and don't deserve support.
I was playing ladder and somebody called me a "fucking white-trash redneck cracker". I am greatly offended by this racist hate-crime. What are the major sites I can search so I can get his contact details and try to ruin his life? I want to do this for the community.
Holy shit, I can't believe some people are actually proud they have ruined his job. Some people really don't have any sense of justice at all. Way to ruin someone over the word gook rofl.

My little butt is so hurt by this. (No pun intended).
Was he a large community figure who represents a team of professional gamers who salaries depend on continued support from sponsors?
I love Destiny's stream, it's hilarious, but this was still a good. One cannot be spewing racist and homophobic words around and not except to be punished. Also, I do not think Destiny needs to use racist or homophobic wording to be funny, in the cases where he needs something for extra force there is a good lot of more politically correct swear words, and even then, I think those are unneccesary for him being funny (meanwhile I do think "normal" swear words should be no problem to use).
For example, my personal favorite of Destiny's videos is this one: In that, he says faggot once, but that was not neccesary for him being enteratining.
Also, possibly, one could be allowed to use those words, but then it's better that he is teamless, because I think it's more acceptable to use them in a context as an entertainer than as an proffesional sponsored athlete (even if I'd rather you not use them eitherway).

Seems like we're starting to go down that road as well...
No, not at all.
No one anywhere would get away with being openly racist like Destiny has done on multiple occassions. The only people who think it's acceptable behavior are people who are either too young to have experienced the adult world or too sheltered/anti-social to go out and see the world.
Having no personality has nothing to do with it, it's about being politically correct. That's usually a negative term, but honestly when it comes to racism/sexism/etc I agree with being politically correct. It's not difficult, it saves a ton of problems, and it's a matter of respect for others.
You guys really are taking a pleasure thrasing "the community" and TL when honestly this is a no brainer. If you were in the real world, there wouldn't even be a question. He would've been instantly fired on the spot. Actually, he would never have gotten popular : he would've gotten fired a long time ago.
Stop trying to defend unacceptable behavior. This is a UNIVERSALLY unacceptable type of behavior.
This is universally unacceptable behaviour if you work at a bank or a mall or any other regular job, but this behaviour in fact made him popular. As some stated before its part of gaming culture to rage, even more in the older days, and Destiny made a career as a streaming entertainer. Therefore its like saying a rapper or a comedian shouldnt use faggot or nigger in theyre stand ups/songs when they built their careers on breaking taboos that in normal society wouldnt be broken.

Oh, don't be so pessimistic! I'm sure he has a family and job that we can work to have ostracize him! It's for the good of the world, of course.

No not really. It was a random ladder game. But I still want to try and sue him or something. I want to help to clean the ladder from this filth. I want to stand up to these bullies. For the community.

Starcraft community never disappoints.. Everyone wetting their panties as soon as someone says a degrading word.. kinda funny. Just like the top comment on that reddit post, running home to mama and telling on someone = emailing sponsors like a crybaby. You know he will say stupid shit, yet you tune in and still you are offended? Oh my..
Best community obviously, i guess Sc2 must have a mature community considering people go ape shit over vulgarity, if your that fussed about it i heard there is a cool feature on Bnet that edits out naughty words for children, people should try it sometime XD, gl with whatever your plan is now Destiny
This vigilante eye-for-an-eye pseudo-justice just disgusts me, especially when a great deal of the community came out either completely apathetic or in support of Destiny. It's disingenuous to say this was the will of the community. It was the will of a few very petty people who mailed sponsors.
If they wanted to be seen as a Professional organisation, with their focus on actually being good at sc2 (like Naniwa), then this was the right decision. Props to them, I respect them for this.
On his stream Destiny can do whatever he likes - raging/abusing people is funny up to a point. This doesn't allow him to say anything he wants without repercussions, especially in a professional environment.

Good post.
It seems to me a lot of americans posting here seem to tolerate racist posts. Imagine if those people were talking about 9-11 and insulting america that way? I bet you guys won't tolerate jokes about 9-11! Destiny had it coming. We already saw what happened to orb. Funny how he made a post saying his income won't be hurt etc. Well of course there will be an impact but tbh he had it coming. He needs to be more mature and stop relying on immature kids who have no idea of the concept that racism and professional sports do no mix. Destiny needs to start producing results in tournaments and show some real consistent skill rather than rely on immature kids to watch his stream.
On May 04 2012 21:57 kcbgoku wrote: Honestly I don't think it affects him that much. On the other hand it is starting to hurt everyone else, first Orb drama, now this, it's just a matter of time until next one comes up. This shit needs to stop, if not from stupid whiny drama looking kids than from teams and sponsors. The internet is the internet, you have to notice that the professionalism you're reffering to, is non-existant and non-achievable on the internet. Do you realize that most of players said some stupid shit at least one time? Do you really want to commit to something ridiculous like this? Punishing everyone of them for it, in this day and age, when on the internet I see 95% of people acting worse than that? Who the fu** is throwing the first stone? It's impossible to get offended by stuff like this in 2012 when in every game I play I see only one angrier person than another, BMing eachother. Everyone who has been on the internet for 15 minutes and owns a brain knows that. What I see happening seems to me like next level BM of one more angrier guy. And I bet that right now, the next drama troll, is sitting in his cave already, watching replays, and looking for the next target. Someone has to find a way to fight this, because frankly it will eventually became like this: 1st guy will message sponsor that he won't buy his stuff, because he said "fag" on stream. Team will fire him or whatever, and then the 2nd guy will be like: Hey I liked this player, you're not supporting him anymore? Well then fu and your product. Do you really want this vicious circle to destroy every person who said stupid shit? Think about that. Because eventually there won't be anyone left.
99.9 percent of the population wouldn't say any of these comments in a public place because it is common sense. It's the same mindset with ppl on social media where they post pictures of themselves smoking bongs or robbing a house. The internet is watching you and unless your 13, they know its wrong and immature to use that type of language in a professional setting. Yes, streaming for money is a professional setting.
Dude, wtf. 99.9%? Internet is flooded with stupid pictures, stupid videos, fails/mistakes of politicians, stars, journalists, public figures etc. + Casting MLG or whatever would be a professional setting. Streaming? Not rly.
I meant in real life, not behind the anonymity of the internet. When you stream you are publicly showing your games with your name represented. When you are streaming you are representing your sponsors and team... You must act professional or you will not get support. Like so.
What anonymity of the internet? Journalist or politician on national TV is anonymous? Is anyone submitting his photo with his face on it on facebook/other site with his name in profile anonymous? What are you talking about?
+ Destiny didn't suddenly become person he is. He's been like this for years, that's the reason he got popular and you won't tell me that quantic or anyone involved with him didn't know that.
lol. Destiny is not the internet. I bet you any stupid picture or stupid video you talk about being posted, you will not know the person who is posting said picture or video. That's being anonymous. The internet allows you to say stupid shit that you would never say to someone's face (with out getting smacked around).I never said destiny was anonymous.
Name some stars or journalists that people are O.K. allowing them to use racist comments.
EDIT: Complexity and Quantic both knew what they were taking on... and both realized the cons outweigh the pros.

Bandwagon mentality is a strong force to be reckoned with.
