Razer is not going to damage itself over this, that'd be bad business. Contacting them is not going to kill esports. Like people have said though, this sort of behavior being picked up on by a major publication or something of that ilk will actually do terrible terrible damage. If I am Razer, I'd be much closer to (A) than (B). No reason to hang around this scene if I have to dealt with this shit on weekly basis.

since you don't like his 'bm' i doubt you'll ever go watch him and therefore he has lost one potential viewer. and also you can report them ingame for such behavior.

The real problem I see here is people running to the sponsors. It is becoming more and more common for people to complain to the sponsors whenever they become butt hurt over a situation evolving a player. If the first response is to mail Razer, telling them how disgusted you are and threatening not to purchase from them in the future you're hurting e-sports. It's not like Razer actually cares about the finer details of the community, I seriously doubt they are familiar with the reputations and track records of many of these players. They're more interested in having their brand name attach to popular players and teams and not dealing with the gritty details. But when tons of overly sensitive people flood their email with complaints their not going to investigate the situation, they're just going to give the team shit and threaten to pull their funding. People think they're so high and mighty going around the team and the community and straight to the sponsors but their actions are only hurting e-sports. Razer is like a child with a nail gun, it doesn't know what it's doing with regards to understanding the community and it's members but it stands to do a lot of damage because of how much influence it has over teams that need its sponsorship. This type of reaction cannot become a norm. If you're angry about a player's conduct on stream complain to TL and maybe they'll get their stream de-listed. That's something that a player like Destiny, who makes a large portion of his revenue through streaming, would be affected by without totally destroying his career. If that doesn't work, email Quantic, the team that actually deals with Destiny on a personal level. It actually gives him incentive to control himself when his stream is linked on TL or at least lets him know the consequences certain actions can have. But seriously, stop running to the sponsors, telling mommy how someone hurt your feelings and in turn destroying someone's fucking career. If this becomes the norm sponsors will start to think this is a community not worth supporting. Personally I don't think Destiny did anything wrong and everyone is becoming way too sensitive, so what if he said something offensive, you don't have to watch his stream. If you don't like it, turn it off. I'll take your complaints seriously when he starts cussing at MLG or any other major event he goes to while representing Quantic and Razer.

If this community wants esports to grow you will not support racist/homophobic language being spouted by a representative of the community. Maybe you don't like that idea - maybe you even feel it violates free speech - well, that's shitty, but potential/current sponsors aren't going to look at this thread (which is at the top of TL right now) and say "hmm everyone here makes some really good points about linguistics, and that Destiny fellow really is a free thinker!". They're going to say "fuck sponsoring these people it isn't worth it and we're going to get in trouble." Everyone here has different views on what is acceptable or not, but unless you're going to fund the whole scene you have to assume this sport will not grow unless you cut shit that's unacceptable in the public domain (no matter if you think it's acceptable or not). over this or anything, but come on, stop claiming words don't mean anything when you specifically select certain words As a sidenote, I think it's pretty funny that people are claiming Destiny isn't racist when he specifically used "gook" after the poster used Korean to type "GG". To me, that's a situation where Destiny picked the word he knew would most likely cause the most offense and harm to someone who is Asian or of Asian descent. For Destiny it wasn't just a word, it was a word he knew had the chance to cause the maximum amount of damage because it denigrates Asians - and that should be totally unacceptable. This isn't the first time I've seen him do this either. His choice of language when bming changes depending upon what server he's on. Now I don't think Destiny should be fired when you think you're playing a person of a specific race or culture. best post in this thread, thank you so much for saying it.

People who comment that characters like Destiny will always exist are right, but the conclusion to be drawn from that fact is not to leave them alone; the conclusion that needs to be drawn from that is that the rest of us need to stand up against these people. To all those who think to themselves or comment publicly that it is not a big deal, you are wrong. It is a big deal. It is a much bigger deal than losing to an all in. It takes courage by the OP to post this, and we should be thankful the OP had the courage. The OP typing in korean when he speaks english in order to attempt to bait a racist response out of a player after cheesing him and probably bm'ing earlier on doesn't take courage and it says a lot more about the OP than it does destiny, words have context and if you seriously believe that they were meant as anything other than a vent you really are stupid. As i said before, if that offends you turn on the offensive language filter, if it's off it is assumed that you are mature enough to handle offensive language.

I love your stream because of your commentary, your advice to us in the lower leagues, your hilarious excitement in SC2 and League when making the big plays, and your skype conversations with your various friends, like Kyle. I don't see how anything you did was wrong since it happened on your stream. I know you aren't a racist. I'd like to say I can understand your intentions. I feel, based on how I've seen you at live events and your stream, that you are a good dude who I could be friends with had our paths crossed. tl;dr version - I'm asking that we, as a community, take a look at the bigger problems and not focus on things as meaningless as words. Words only mean what you allow them to mean and will only hurt you if you let them. Intention and context will always outweigh verbage. Peace and thigh grease. If we, as a communicty, want to be taken seriously, we should not tolerate 'people' like Destiny, whom claim to be 'professionals' to make fun of the entire community and be racist whenever they feel like it. People like him, the pro's, are THE FACE OF SC2. If we ever want to be taken seriously, nonsense like this mustn't happen. THe part above the TLDR says enough about your motivations on this post. You are not relevant, being a fanboy.

Words like "nuke" or "murder" are neutral without context. I don't even think young people in the US see faggot as offensive anymore. It's just become a general way to insult someone in the past few years. In high school everything was 'gay' and everyone needed to stop acting like 'faggots'

We all know half a dozen people like this in real life and tend to avoid them. I believe the word we use is assholes. It makes me wonder why he's so popular.

Yup, that's why his excuse of words don't matter is so laughable. He has multiple times picked the words he knows will do the most damage possible when bming others. This shit he says often isn't done for humor, it's done out of anger and that's really not cool.

That is plain depressing. I am 100% for free speech and freedom for that matter, I believe people should be allowed to say what they want. That is also why you should be a decent person and choose not to say some things otherwise someone else will just respond equally stupidly and it goes on and on. Because I am fully within my rights to say 'Destiny is a racist shit bag who should jsut fucking go back into the hole he crawled out of and die'. Why? Because you are claiming that is acceptable language and behavior. It really isn't - well not if you actually want to ever earn a decent living. If you want to be living off everyone else at the bottom of the pile then go for it. Be civil before someone instead of raging at you verbally actually does rage at you physically. Personally I don't see the difference and if someone raged at me in real life like they do online I think they would discover why you don't do it.

2. Destiny curses and slurs. 3. Community outrage. 4. 12 year olds think Destiny gives a fuck about them (see point 1). 5. 12 year olds make thread about how Destiny is in for a world of hurt if he doesn't clean up his ways. 6. Destiny obviously doesn't give a fuck. 7. Crying occurs. User was warned for this post

Freedom of Speech actually does protect hate speech, it just doesn't protect individuals from facing social repercussion for what they say. If nobody wants to employ someone who uses racial slurs, that man just won't be employed. It absolutely does NOT protect hate speech. In fact hate speech is a very clearly delineated exemption to that protection. I feel like there are a lot of people who didn't actually watch that video that JoJo linked. 1. It will give you a good 5 minute break from the thread which everyone probably needs. 2. It is very well thought out.

It would be the fault of the people who contacted them, not the fault of Destiny for ruining it for others with his actions. And if they took an active interest in SC2 and saw this thread, instead of being alerted about it, who's fault is it then?

It was part of the reason I stopped posting as much and went back to lurking. Casual racism is accepted in a significant portion of the community. As long as you're not assaulting people in the street.... Or at least not where you can get caught. Let's all just call each other cracker, chink, nigger, spic, kraut, frog, and cheesemakers when addressing somebody. Why not? Why's Destiny so special? I want to do it too. I don't see individuals. I just see race. If I'm not able to judge from your handle, I'll just assign you a race, turban head. We should all make signatures. Here, just copy and paste the appropriate line: Whites Rule! Asians Rule! Blacks Rule! Hispanics Rule! Then, we can finally be honest with each other since we've stripped away the slang to expose the race-based identities we all want to attack and embrace. This is freedom! We don't really know each other beyond our screennames anyway. Tell each other how you really feel. You know what I really hate? Mixed-race babies. Anyone else want to share?
