I wonder if SC2 will ever be this big even with Flash...
I know BW will never be that big again, but sc2 has a chance.
I doubt it. gamers from this era likes multi-player competitive games, such as mmo, fps, and dota, no matter the difficulty or "viewing pleasure", people are going to invest time that they personally play.
RTS is becoming more niche as years go by
huh? from my experience its the complete opposite.. do you have any data to back up this claim of RTS becoming more "niche"? total number of players playing games like sc2 has certainly gone up so..
sc2 was an unusual case for RTS games, it did well cause of brand and marketing. Just look at the most recent RTS games and their numbers sold, definitely much smaller than the golden era RTS used to be back in sc1/AoE/red alert/wc period
You can also look at the active playerbase drop for sc2. Gamers just don't like challenging games these days. Why waste months of practicing just to be subpar at a game when you can have instant gratification from the illusion of "being good" that you get from playing team games?

So that's why the MMO and FPS E-Sports scenes are so big right? LoL is big because it's popular AND Riot is pushing hard in trying to get people to care about E-Sports. Same isn't true for the other 2.

MMO and fps esport aren't big because nobody is pushing it. But they have the playerbase for tremendous growth if some companies decide to invest.
well, actually I think in Asia the fps esport are pretty big with that counter-strike clone game
RTS don't have the humongous playerbase compare to fps, mmo, or dota, so the growth is minimal. At least that's how I see it personally

Spite.... and 50k prize pools. Travelling the world to play SC2 is good times for the 18-25 year old crowd.
Foreign tournaments are the sweet ripe nectar of SC2, doesn't make any sense not to participate in them if you really are dominant.

Exactly. I don't see a scenario where foreigners will be able to catch up after some point. Then it will be like a reverse of the Elephant in the room scenarion where foreigners scrap for mini leagues while koreans just crash all the major ones.

erh? i guess it could be inferred but why would they just throw in a top lvl bw player into the scene like that without and insurance that they would do well?

Guts.....
If its true, I would respect it.
Nothing is braver than just throwing yourself into the heat of battle. True confidence is being able to deal with the results, regardless of what they may be.
Far better decision for the esport than separate player bases.

i am not saying i wouldn't want this to happen but it seems a bit far fetched is all.. if its true my nerd dreams have come true.
Maybe I'm just grumpy, but as much as I like my favorite Broodwar pro's, I don't really care if they dominate in SC2 or not. I think a lot of people are imagining this as some kind of moment of reckoning, where we find out if Kespa's progamers are actually as dedicated and talented as they've been made out to be, but for anyone who's followed and tried to play Broodwar this is a question that doesn't need answering. Failure on their part, for me, would reflect badly on SC2, not them.
If Broodwar really is going to stop being played professionally in Korea, I'm glad some of the players are enjoying their new jobs, but only because I wish the best for the people who've entertained me all these years

How did you come up with this statement? I mean do you think he would say, the game sucks, i feel forced to play it and i hate it? It was already said that many coaches and pro bw players themselves don't feel well about the switch and it is unfortunate but inevitable for them.

How did you come up with the statement about MANY coaches and pro bw players? I know 1 coach in that interview with fomos was vocal about him not liking it that much, but he did go on to say that his players eventually enjoyed the game; they saw it as a challenge.
And if Flash felt forced to play, I'm sure he's a grown man and would say I quit. At least I hope he has that choice, IF he truly felt that way.

The fact that players and coach have already been vocal about dislike means that Flash has absolutely nothing to gain by lying and saying he was enjoying it when he wasn't.
