Not sure where to post this - so sorry for wrongly posting this but just thought i'd share this story...
I've got a friend on SC2 who was a temp at the my work place for a while. I got him into SC2 and taught him a little. About two days ago I looked at his profile to see how he's getting on... and he had around 600 wins in bronze league 1v1 this season. Intrigued - I looked at his match history and each game was around 1-2 mins long.
So I questioned him and he told me of this bot called "loss bot" in which the bot leaves the player automatically after a certain amount of time then re-queues 1v1.
How does he get wins you wonder??
Well apparently, LOTS of players use this rank 40- in Bronze league to grind portraits. So to win their bot leaves before yours does.... He got 300 wins and 50 losses one night.
To me this sounds crazy... I'd never thought i'd see something like this in Starcraft 2. It's a shame really
Just thought i'd share this. I'm not sure how common knowledge this is... I searched forums for a post about it but there were none so hmmm =\
People have been botting in bronze since release.
It's common knowledge. I don't see why people are so crazy about portraits but each to his own I guess.
Huh ? If people want portraits let them have em. Its not like the boot wins them games vs non boots or plays better than a real player. I doubt all the bronze league consists of booters ( and thus i would assume the info in this thread is just bull shit, no ss of the boot not even profile ss... etc ) but if it does than good for them i guess, doesn't hurt the game in any way.
Meh, What's the point in anything if you haven't earned it.
Yeah, it's pretty well known that people do that. In the lowest MMR it's just a race of who leaves the game faster. Apparently portraits are THAT important to some people.
Woah didn't realise it was such common knowledge :O Sorry to post this then... was such a surprise to me.

If that's what they crave, I don't really care... It's not like they're hurting anybody, right?

Not only that, but nothing about portraits is 'earning' it. They're not difficult to achieve, no effort has to be put into them, you just have to play a lot, which if you were already going to play, then it's not exactly meaningful. People bot because not many people want to play 6000 games to get the dark voice portrait, when they don't have time to play that much.
TL;DR portraits are pointless, and you should just be able to get them if you want them.
Also it oesn't earn anyybodyy, i would love to have the win % back along with the number of total game played..
So that we can see who did that...
So? It's still stupid. So many people in this world are addicts. I can't believe people who don't even play ladder or that much at all are willing to leave their PC on 24/7 to automate portraits.
I recently just unlocked the Terran 1000 wins 1v1 Nova portrait. That is after 2 years of playing. I don't understand how you can enjoy a portrait if you botted to receive it.
Ohhh, so that's how these people can accrue 2k games played in one season alone. I used to think they did rock paper scissors all the time lol
I would use a bot like that in order to play in lower leagues without going through the trouble of leaving 20-30 games. I think there must be some people using it for that purpose, rather than just portrait farming. There's something fun about playing without pressure, knowing you're going to win. It also lets you do some funny stuff that you could never do in a game at your own level.

By that logic, we shouldn't have to the play the first 10minutes of a game, and better players will win anyway after that, so games should start at 10minutes with a health economy and army. Don't be stupid.

Well if you dont want pressure while playing, play against the AI. Don't ruin the game for lower league players. I don't know which league you are in but i would expect you to be upset aswell when you need to play against GM players who want to "play without pressure".
actually if losses didn't matter, I would use it too. I just want to use some of the portraits and don't really have that much time to spent to get them. But if I can't use it, I feel like I am missing parts of the game.

30 wins from that and i can totally second your post! And yeah when i was in bronze league and sc2 was my first rts and i got my first 10.25.100.250 wins and got my portrait to prove i kinda felt great.Back in season 1 anyways i was kinda improving my league along with portraits.I was like siege tank and silver and then i was platinum and ghost or something...It was kinda special to me
I will admit, that I demote myself sometimes to learn as I improve as I play easy players to increasing difficulty but that's just me. I have seen these bots but I am guilty of abusing these bots to manually farm my last 60 wins for the kerrigan portrait. Though I never used a bot. I wouldn't have a clue how to xD
Edit: Before I get flamed, I do regret this. I suffer from the people in Ireland now looking at me like a Hardcore portrait farmer. -.-
However, I was gonna get it anyway, just made it slightly faster.

Haha just had to think about an old vid (name is kRO Monster Race Bots on youtube, not link worthy as most won't know whats going on still funny to me). I think its bad for people that want to earn their portraits and bots should be fought unimportant of what they do (there are exceptions but those bots just gather informations, which can be nice and are officially allowed). If you let one bot live there will be others and then it will get out of hand xD.

Ugh.. Why does a 3 line long post need a TL;DR
TL;DR This is very pointless

Yeah it's extremely common, people want that false sense of achievement without actually playing the game. I would know, I've botted WoW and other various MMOs for several years, I'd even bot SC2 if the losses didn't go on my record.
By the way there's also 6 pool bots :S

Yeah, but what happens is that when you get to bronze and get your MMR down you'll face diamond/masters who did the same

We all know that kachinsky is the best portrait anyways..
Yea these have been around for a long time, people use them for portrait farming. Personally I dont care too much, maybe blizzard should just get rid of portraits.
Im sure they are not playing very many players and mostly bots vs bots but if they are playing players I feel bad for it wasting their time.
I have yet to meet any people that have botted in SC2, though I've seen a lot during my years playing WC3. If that's how your friend wants to play the game, then I would say so be it. People have different aspirations and how they want to achieve is left up to them. Personally, I too had an affinity towards gaining portraits. Though I did so through playing countless of games in order to achieve this goal. I can say that I had a lot more fun through my experience and learned how to play the game better. As a result, I started getting promoted to higher leagues, and my goal changed from obtaining portraits to playing SC2 ladder more seriously. For your friend he took a different, and perhaps dishonorable, path and wanted to achieve it the easy way out. Although I sincerely believe he is missing some great experiences he could have had if he had just done it himself. Though this is just my opinion.

Perhaps I should make it clearer:
2k games played in one month tops.

This is pathetic, but any sensible person would not give it a fuck.
Who cares if a buncha idiots buy the game only not to play it at all...

This about a thousand times...
Never understood people like that, although I'm in masters, so I couldn't really care less
Yes it's wrong, but it doesn't really affect the game play at all. The players at such a low level of bronze are mostly people auto losing anyways. This bot doesn't give them advantages in a true player vs player scenario in any higher league so I don't see it as a huge issue. Honestly, if portraits are that important to you that you would risk your account to get them..well, go outside and take a breathe of fresh air.
Yeah i went down to bronze from GM on SEA to stream some bronze bashing over the christmas holidays and didnt really understand what was going on until i finally pieced it all together.
all the hybrid portraits were a dead giveaway

Why on earth would you sacrifice a GM account to stream bronze bashing? GM has a limited number of slots, it's also a pain to get back in. I'm calling shenanigans.

Lol, so stupid. Who gives a shit about portraits? I have over 1000 wins as zerg and I still use the Hydralisk
This has been known for a while. There are other threads for this.
I believe there are even bots that can worker rush for you on 2 player maps. Not sure about that tho.
So, someone who's new and genuinely bad at the game will alternate between a 1-min-loss-bots and masters dicking around? That's just sad...
This reminds me of the portrait farming blog >.<
Some people actually feel good when they unlock a portrait, but when everyone simply cheats to achieve it, it makes it not as noteworthy, such as boosters in COD
People have strange priorities ;D
