Just wondering TL opinions on this, as me and a friend were having a heated debate about how "healthy" these Green Teas from Arizona were.

I say they aren't, they are just a delicious drink that when you look at the design of the bottle it makes you feel like you are drinking some ancient 1,000 year oriental tea of healing and cannabis.

I have absolutely no idea if they are good for you or not, but they are fucking delicious.

(I assume they aren't great for you though, not because of the tea itself but because of all the other crap they probably put in to make it taste better.)

green tea is amazing for you, arizona green tea however is loaded with way too much sugar. best to use only a bit of sugar and make your own iced tea, or maybe use honey.

Looking at the nutrition stats; it almost seems like there is nothing in it at all. Almost like reading the nutrition stats for water.

If it is really flavoured properly with green tea/extract then you could expect some of the benefits of green tea; cancer fighting, bacteria killing, anti-oxidant properties, improvement of cardiovascular function.

I'd be surprised if it was the equivalent to a real cup of green tea.

The ingredients aren't listed on the site, but I can expect since it's a diet drink with 0 calories & purported honey flavour it must contain one or both of the two 'standard sweeteners used in mass soft-drink production: Acesulfame K & Aspartame. Both of these are considered negligible to your overall health, as long as you aren't consuming these drinks by the crate load.

So I don't think they are 'bad' for you; they probably just don't do much for you -- similarly to Vitamin Water.

labeling foods as "good" or "bad" is usually too simplistic for most foods. It has 51g of sugar per bottle, which is 200+ calories. So if you're watching your waistline then there are probably better green teas out there.

that's funny, the diet version has 0 calories and 1g of sugar. They put one drop of honey in it so they can legally include "with honey" on the label and then they sweeten it with splenda. Genius

What if I tell myself that this Arizona Green Tea is healthy for me and I put myself under a placebo effect?

To what limit could I lie to myself telling myself I am drinking something healthy when really it isn't?

I don't expect them to be healthy that much. No way near like a home made iced tea, or a real tea, that's for sure. Here in Canada, Arizona green tea don't that much sugar in them, so it's actually not that bad... but look at in on the can.

Funny fact, tea sold in paper bag are not even really good for your health (Lipton for example). Sure, it's not "bad", it's just not that healthy. The only real way to drink a good tea is to buy loose leaf.

Corn Syrup is a "100% natural" ingredient, fyi. At 17g of sugar at least it's better than a Coke.

You are not exactly making a convincing argument here. Any food you make at home can be made in a factory. To throw out a general "Anything that mass-produced can in no way be good for you." is just stupid.

I drink tea on a daily basis, but it is usually loose leaf.
I remember reading an article discussing bottled teas and how they lack a lot of the anti-oxidants and catechin that makes green tea good for you. Top it off with the amount of sugar in there, and I would say drinking this is better for you than soda, but not by much. At least its not carbonated and acidic as hell.

It is probably not good for you. It is much too sugary to be healthy. It is iced tea and then bottled, so there is even more reason to distrust it. Probably better than some other soft drink indulgences. At least it's good that way if you MUST have your soft drink fix. Otherwise pass it up from some freshly brewed tea or plain water.

Anti-oxidants isn't necessarily good for you. In fact, the free radicals which anti-oxidants remove are used to fight certain infections.

There was also a study of people in high-risk of getting lung cancer in which the group given vitamin E supplements had statistically higher risk of getting cancer over the placebo group. Source

Basically nutritionist are claiming all sorts of crap with no science to back it up.

Heh, looking at that webpage, holy crap, that's a lot of words and astonishingly little of substance. It's all fluff. If you like it, drink it, but don't kid yourself that it's significantly better than your typical sweetened bottled tea.

I don't think drinking this stuff in any amount would be bad for you. It's not as sugary as soda/pop or even nestea(green), to compare it to something similar. I think you and your friend need to find something new to argue about, like who would win between a gorilla and a velociraptor?

Lulz. Arizona "Green Tea" is terrible and should never be bought with the intention of drinking something healthy. It is liquid candy.

Proper green tea is non-oxidized, fresh, with no sugar added. In the US, try the Stash brand for the ultimate green tea. Brew at 160 F for 1-2 minutes.

I suppose my recommendation after consideration of these facts...would be to go to an asian grocery store & buy up some good authentic green teas...diff flavours if you like; and then just add your own real honey to it.

Drink hot or cold; such are the options that tea gives you.

It's probably better for you than a coke, but if you want the real deal, brew it yourself. The wikipedia articles on tea are worth reading, as they cite scientific studies.

Also, be careful about generalising to bottled teas.
