NaNiwa not invited to Code S - Page 107

While I understand that there's a need to discuss this matter, this thread has way too many trash posts in it. Please think carefully about what you want to say. Ad hominem attacks on Swedish people in general, calling you fellow Starcraft fans idiots etc etc will be dealt with with harsher punishment from here on out. Keep it civil people.

Page 230: Here's some more stuff that'll get you banned!
- Conspiracy theory mongering about MLG and GOM
- Comparing people to Hitler
- Posting useless one liners of arguments that have already been repeated ad nauseum.

"During a match, a player shall not offend the opponent or audience with abusive behaviours"

if im a player and lets say bomber lands mules during battles and i feel offended, does that mean bomber is banned?

if im a player and lets say MC taunts or gives me a thumbs down and i feel offended, does that mean MC is banned?

what a joke.

This makes me sad. It's good for e-sports if there is heathy competition. And his Thumbs down clearly was in a playful manner. I give Gom TV and Korean crybabies the thumbs down, you don't know what sports is. You mite as well ban everybody who doesn't GG. And why not kick them right of battle net. It's all in the eye of the beholder in my opinion.

Good decision by GomTV.
Players can't exactly be allowed to do whatever they want. And the punishment could be much worse, naniwa now has more time to practice and work on his attitude as a whole.
It's nice to see Tournaments with standards.

The problem isn't him using a cheesy strategy. He took his hands off the keyboard, leaned his face into his hand like he didn't care, and basically trivialized the game.

I can't honestly believe people believe this is "bad for e-sports." You guys are absolute jokes.

Naniwa's actions were not funny. They weren't light-hearted. If they were, he would have shown it to be light-hearted. He just had the most "I don't give a shit about anyone but myself" attitude about it.

I want to see foreigners do well. HuK gets it. Even IDRA gets it. Naniwa needs to get it. Respect for your opponent by giving effort is a big deal.

Yeah. People with differing opinions are "jokes". You insulted a lot of people; this thread has over 100 pages in a little over an hour. Maybe you should have your forum privileges revoked.

It's not like naniwa was being fucking malicious about it like you make it seem.

Not only this but i also question giving free code S spots for popular players without them having to qualify. At least Naniwa did qualify. He didnt cheat or use any exploit. Korea needs to realize that SC2 is not only theirs like SC1 was and is now a global phenomenon. Things like these do not fly.

Pro-gamer as an occupation is not a job where you just play games between other pro players. Corporations sponsor us because the existence of fans make e-sports a product that we are trying to create. But I believe the behaviour from Naniwa yesterday was such a behaviour that betrayed and looked down on the fans. I hope he thinks about what he did and do not play a game like that again."

From MC

I think it's funny that pro-gamers advocate giving up competition in order for entertainment, as if pro gamers are entertainers who just happen to be competitors..

where does it say anything about giving up competition?

Because to essentially cater to fans is anti competition. In the light of a competition where your competition has ended, and you still have a game left, you have one of two options, you either just forfeit the game like naniwa did, or you attempt to entertain fans by creating some sort of fake competitive image, which in itself just makes a mockery of real competition. If your a pro gamer the goal should be to worry about competition, not create games where you try to act like there's something on the line when there isn't. I just think it's utterly silly to bring in pro gamers to a competition, and then once it's effectively over expect them to be forced to play a fake competitive game or be banned. The only argument you could make against naniwa is that he's a dick for not just playing a fun game for his fans, but he didn't sign up for the competition to play fun games, he signed up to compete and once the competition was over he pretty much just didn't see the point in faking it.

Then they should have won a tournament, that guaranteed them a spot.

Or you know, come second from an EXTREMELY advantageous seeded position...

or you know, become 2nd from an extremely good seed because of an extremely good run in a former gsl where he went from open bracket to the finals without dropping any game! noone else achieved this so far.. but well, this discussion isnt about how good of a player naniwa is (i dont think he is in the top10 of the world), but this decission is just wrong! he earned his spot

Extremely good run in a former mlg with no Korean players.

They probably lost subscriptions for banning naniwa but they most likely gain way more subs by getting Idra and Sen in than they lost by dropping nani anyway.

Its really crazy how people respond to this. Naniwa spitted in the face of the fans and nestea, and he actually deserves a lifetime GSL ban. His behaviour OVERALL is just not acceptable. Why is this so hard to understand? If you want sponsors to take esports SERIOUSLY, then this kind of behaviour has to be punnished.

no see rules sometimes have to be interpreted on a case by case basis

it's weird you can't understand that but luckily we are here to explain

actions done to tilt opponents in the spirit of winning further games is not even close to the same as throwing a game in the face of your opponent as well as the tournament runners and the viewers.

Ok that's it. No more GSL for me. Been a faithful customer since the start but this is just retarded and I feel I have to make a statement.

If GSL wants to be international they need to stop with forcing that silly Korean honor and political correctness upon foreign players, let Naniwa be Naniwa please.

Look at Monday Night Football as an example. The Seahawks against the Rams. Not a lot worth playing for there. But they still played out the entire 2-3 hour game, not the 20 minute Starcraft 2 match. It has everything to do with being a professional and nothing to do with the format.

I can't really imagine a lesser punishment that would mean much to Naniwa at all.

A monetary fine is the only alternative I can think of but it would be hard to enforce and might even be harsher for Naniwa - that could mean he would need to leave Korea if he didn't have enough financial support from the team. Having his Code S invite revoked for one season is almost the weakest thing they could have done. A single season isn't not even two months?
