Absolutely the best decision by GOM - this will never happen again now, and players will understand that professional standards are the most important thing, in any sport. Also, no foreigner will ever go over to Korea and embarass the entire western eSports community like Naniwa did.

I'm pretty sure that rule still stands - and just isn't mentioned on their (english?) website.

not saying if I agree or disagree with the decision but it's probably that rule they are applying.

Hmmm, I that reminded me. Yeah, there's this rule in order to prevent the known match fixer in BW to enter GSL so maybe they are extend this rule to Naniwa's case.

LOL gom ought to think this through, dont just listen to korean netizens voices. Sure what naniwa did was wrong but he didnt deserve the ban. A lot of viewers from EU are gonna drop for GSL if he isnt playing, because even if they hate him, they still want to see europeans in GSL.

Yeah. People shouldn't blame GOM (well at least not entirely). They're probably following the masses in train of thought. I doubt they'd know it would be this controversial (it seems on TL about 1/3rd or more oppose this).

Terrible decision by GOM, Naniwa didn't break any rules. If there's something you don't agree with, you change the rules so that it doesn't happen/can be punished in the future. It feels unprofessional and unfair to the player to shoot off punishments from the hip. These sorts of regulations and repurcussions need to be clearly defined beforehand.

This is so fucking stupid. I cannot believe that I have supported GOMTV with my money until now. I have paid for almost every season so far, and then they go ahead and do this kind of shit? I am never ever watching another GSL event, and I am sure as hell not buying any more tickets.

How about when Thewind threw his game away with Supernova, to make him stay in code S? I still remember that, from some GSL back. He just sat there maxed with broodlords and not expanding or attacking to let Supernova cach-up.

So you can throw games away but not so obvious?

Well this is 100% asinine on GOM's part. Naniwa's decision was disrespectful but in no way did he deserve this. If anything it's GOM's fault for making such a dumb format. Also, it's pretty unprofessional to call out Naniwa like that on the stream if this is true (didn't watch Korean stream).

What Naniwa did was tantamount to throwing his game. If you're immature enough (or uninformed enough?) to do that in Korea where previous incidents have resulted in bans and public outcry, then I don't know what to say.

Guess what guys? Probe rush is not a legit strategy. I don't care if the match was meaningless, I don't care if he was "tired", he did it ONLY to throw the game.

What if he had just sat there, not mining, not rushing, and just didn't do anything? Would that be OK too? Could you all defend that? It's not against the rules, right? Just because you *can* do something and there's no exact rule against it doesn't mean it's OK to do.

Plus we don't know If KeSPA would have done the same thing (we'll see in 2012 when they enter the fray). KeSPA isn't as bad as before.

Good decision imo. I also don't believe ANYONE who's saying they won't watch the GSL now.

Super support from me!

I'm buying premiere 2012 season tickets for myself as well as all of my friends (even the ones that don't watch it). I'll also be buying one for my neighbor, three for my parents, and one for my cat.

It's going to be a fantastic year for professional StarCraft II.

To me, the worst part of this is the way that GOM completely sidesteps any responsibility. When naniwa and Hero threw their games, it was due to the flawed format of the tournament. Having a bad tournament-system produces perverse incentives. We saw the result of that. GOM fails to acknowledge their own part in what has happened, and instead puts all blame on one player. That is not the way to do it.

Only Naniwa threw games. Hero played as well as he could. He didn't go 0-4 because he threw anything.

Did you see his game against DRG? He clearly did not play to win. The commentators mentioned it, and it was obvious in the reactions in the LR-thread.

Yeah, the reactions from people who were expecting Hero to 4-0 the group and those who were hoping for their beloved Stephano to qualify over DRG. Hero played as he always does, tried the WP sentry drops etc, DRG just shut it all down and outplayed him plain and simple.

Either a fine or some minor suspension would have justified what Naniwa did, but this is actually saddening.

If he gets his Code S spot back its fine after January but if he has to re-qualify that would be wrong.

Not sure who's side I'm on here!

Naniwa didn't technically do anything 'wrong', but it was obviously stupid and disrespectful. Does that really deserve a ban?
But GOM is clearly allowed to do it, it was an invite, he didn't qualify, they don't owe him anything.

This makes no sense, Naniwa didn't even break any rules and the way that he played at MLG he deserves to be in Code S.
