Glad GOM is setting precedents. I could care less if if the tournament format isn't perfect for the player, play your games like you are suppose to then take up the issue, or don't bother playing in the league.

I don't get why people are so upset or shocked by this. Spoiled children need punished. I applaud GomTV for their decision.

They should ban Nestea as well for that game vs HuK and as mentioned before in this thread Hero is out too.

Makes me sick that everyone is saying that Naniwa is an amateur prize hunter or only in it for the money. It's very clear what his goals are and what he wants out of the game. I understand the difference in culture here but in a culture that prides themselves so very much on respect they need to stop saying such fucking disrespectful things about Naniwa,

Yes, NaNiwa and CatZ make an amazing duo!

Proxy hatches and probe rushes, indeed what a duo.

Obviously you don't see the hypocrisy here, which is simply all I'm trying to point out.

I'm not a fan of Naniwa, nor do I think his play is particularly great in any sense. I'm just trying to point out that although GOM is free to ban him if they please, they shouldn't make such hard accusations about people's motives and voice them publicly with absolutely no backing.

I do not support this from GOM. Naniwa was disrespectful. Agreed. But he did not break any rules. He did not deserve such a harsh punishment.

No, this is common for Korea culture. They take respect and pride as much as Japanese. If they don't do this, there is no way they can explain to Korean audiences.

Exactly. He's an invite to their tournament and he was really disrespectful. This is what you get.

He was not an invite.

Gom set out a list of what tourneys people had to win or place in to qualify and NaNi qualified through MLG providence.

It's their tournament, they can revoke his right to be in it gg

this is bullshit. pure and total bullshit. i will admit that what naniwa did was wrong and inappropriate, but this sort of punishment is just way over the top. not happy, GOM, not happy at all. OP please supply an email address where we can write to them to voice our dissatisfaction. this is just not on.

This for sure. I would also like an email to formally complain. I will go find one on their site but if it was in the OP more people might actually do it. I will not buy another season of GSL because of this. Sure he acted poorly but this is not the right way to deal with it. This is probably the first time I've ever actually been angry about something that has happened in all of my time observing sc2 as an eSport.

GSL is a private event so of course it's in their right to do whatever they want, and it's in all of our right to not buy their product for whatever reasons we want.
I think personally, they should have talked to Naniwa first and if he was unrepentant, then executed the punishment. This is assuming that he did not break any rules, which includes in my opinion, pissing off the boss who pays you.
In reality, however, this seems like the result of more than just one incident. The management at Gom must have gotten the impression overall that Naniwa was not good for their organization. I highly doubt that just one incident could have resulted in a ban.

They explain that he did not break any rules and that they will endeavor to make sure situations like this never occur.

You do NOT punish a player who broke no rules because what he did isn't part of their "culture". This is possibly one of the most unprofessional things I have ever heard of a company doing.

This. He broke no rules.

I will not be buying a new GSL ticket for next in protest. Not because it's Naniwa, but because this incredibly unprofessional and bad decision making, blaming someone else for their own lacking format.

Gom hasn't broken any rules either. He's having his invite revoked. It's their tournament, why should they help someone who doesn't have any respect for them?

He wasn't invited into Code S. He qualified at MLG Providence.

it wasnt just the strat. if you watched it, you could see naniwa was only using his mouse hand, his other hand was propping up his head, and his face looked like "im bored lets just get this over with". it was his lack of respect that got him punished, not his dumb strategy.

everyone here saying "oh guess im not watching gsl next year", remember that their first and biggest audience is the koreans. we, the foreigners, are just a secondary source of income. they make decisions based on the KOREAN fanbase. if you compare all the tweets from korean pros vs foreign pros, the korean pros are calling him a joke, while the foreigners are saying its not a big deal. respect matters a lot more to koreans than it does to us, and while naniwa is a foreigner, he's also playing a korean sponsored tournament in korea,

tl;dr let the koreans do as they wish, he probably wasnt going to win the GSL anyway

If you dont like GOM's decision, then go and organize a strike when lot of viewers will refuse to watch GSL for some time

When you will do this, nothing will happen, because many viewers dont give a sh*t a respect GOM as a owner of this tournament. I personally dont like this decision, but I'm not the responsible korean manager.

Respect to korean sence of pride.
Respect to Naniwa for his ballsy and non-mainstream behaviour.
