I think everyone can take it down a notch, let's not stir the pot over something that really doesn't have to be a huge issue. In the end, whether I agree or not, I can at least understand why both Liquid and EG's tournament made the decisions they did.

It's disappointing Liquid won't participate but I'll obviously still be watching, good luck with the league.

It is unfortunate and disappointing that Liquid will not be in this Master's Cup, but we do understand their reasons for declining the invitation. We admire and respect the whole crew here and as we plan out our next Master's Cup, we will absolutely be keeping this solid feedback in mind.

Sad that Teamliquid won't be in the league, but happy that EG stuck with their decision. This is the only time I've disagreed with Jinro/Tyler.

Hopefully the league is a success

So basically this plan completely screws over NA players, and the host team that is based out of NA obviously is not going to handicap their team like this, and it is pretty nuts to think that they would, and reallllllllllly arrogant to expect them to do this for you

This is what I've been trying to figure out in my head. Does EG care more about running the fairest tournament possible, or do they care more about getting the absolute best performance out of their team in said tournament? I think we have obviously already seen what they're leaning towards, and since it's their tournament, no one really has a right to complain about it. It's their money, they set the rules.
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks; EG is ponying up the cash so they make the rules. Get the fuck over it.

And you are posting on the TEAM LIQUID FORUM. If individuals feel like expressing their discontent over something in relation to the tournament in the thread meant to discuss it, than they will express it. EG picks how the tourney is set up, in that regard you are absolutely correct. Everybody else on the internet decides how to respond to it,

I'd like to state that just because this site is called "Team Liquid" it doesn't mean we don't have standards for fairness and impartiality. We put this in news, and we will cover / calendar / treat this tournament as any other major tournament regardless of whether Liquid is in it. Whether I believe either side is right in this instance doesn't change how we should treat this discussion on our site. "It's TeamLiquid's forum" should never be used to support unjustified criticism.

The best result that can come of this discussion is that 1) people forget about this issue and enjoy that we have another $10,000 league, and 2) EG considers doing server switching for their next league.

They don't have to obviously. However since EG obviously wants the best tourny possible, you will always want the best players possible there (in this case teams). Hence the discussion.

I can't imagine EG is happy TL isn't playing since it just means people will say "but the winner didn't play TL," etc.

You mean Team Liquid will not have another avenue to display it's rapid decline in performance? Too bad.

Obviously not paying much attention to eu sc2 scene. Happy won more tourneys last month than any other player. Nerchio has been tearing up with ling/roach drop style. Beastly and Bly have been stable.

Grrr of course there will be an advantage for Liquid if the rule do pass through. However small, it is an advantage. It means that the teams preparing for Liquid will have to prepare in all 3 servers ( as it has been said various times, you need to play a lot of games to get used to it so if a team want to do well , it's logical for its players to acclamatize on it).

Liquid players only need to train on his home server + NA. Others need to train for KR NA EU. It is small and might or might not make a difference but there is a case to be made that allowing the rule to pass would be unfair to the o ther teams.

Again.

A team like Mouz. Would not have to prepare for "all 3 servers" I beleive all (or most) of the players on Mouz are in Europe.

EU v KR = NA server.

it only effects the NA server players.
EU is already preparing for NA server games. They are obviously ready for EU server games, the concessions TL was asking for would have no negative effect, at all, on any european player.

I will again say Im not whatsoever saying EG is wrong, as I totally believe its in their right to decide the rules since they are running it, organizing it, and putting up the prize pool. And it will be one awesome tourny.

Not to mention I want to see iNcontrol and idra in a 2v2, even though thats just a pipe dream haha

You are right i stand corrected. The point of the argument still stands though. NA players have to prepare for 3 servers ( NA EU KR) . EU prepare for EU NA. KR for KR NA. But because only TL has players from KR NA EU, they have an advantage ( however small) especially for the ace matches if the rule get passed.. It's kinda bad if the competition becomes "who have more players from more continents all over the world".

Ya, it would disadvantage the NA teams in some respect to the 3 servers.

But their could be a compromise in that.
Have team lineups in advance, far in advance, make them stick to schedule or lose. So the players that know they will be player on NA/EU/KR server can practice there, and get used to the lag.

I understand both sides, it just sucks all around lol

Yes that would be a good solution except for the ace matches which is an on the spot decision as i said originally. Some sides will enjoy the advantage on ace matches

The forum we're discussing it on has nothing to do with the issue, people really shouldn't make that connection. Don't think you have to defend TL or something just because of the forum. If GosuGamers' team was bringing up the issue, we'd still talk about it here.

Yeah, and none of these 12+ pages of whining will change anything. The tournament has been set up. Liquid didn't want to participate. That's it.

At this point this thread has just degenerated into a bunch of professional players acting hostile towards eachother and losing peoples' respect. By all means they can continue, but it won't change anything so it's pretty useless. EG isn't going to suddenly change their mind and kick an invited team off the roster.

EDIT: And why Jinro/Tyler want to get in public arguments with other pros is beyond me. You guys can easily contact them in a private way and get the same information across. All I know is I've lost a lot of respect for certain people today and I'd bet the same applies to many others.

Is there any way we can get information on how the teams are picked? Why pick one team over another? Was it perhaps just to get an even mix of NA and EU teams? Seems reasonable.

Another Compromise for that.
or for the ace match only, all games on NA server, or if its KR NA, 1 of 3 games on KR.
or just a simple No KR players. Price they pay for getting some games on KR?
choosing from Tyler Ret and TLO is perfect anyways, 3 good players 1 of each race.

Obviously, their reason for arguing in public is to try to convince EG for their next team league or other tournament organizers for future leagues. I don't think anyone expects EG to change the format or invites at this point.

I may not understand the situation completely, but the EG arguments sound similar to:
America has only 12% african americans, so why should we inconvenience the VAST MAJORITY of white people by accommodating the blacks?
