No. I'm not going to abuse my access privileges just to prove a point. Not everyone is as scrupulous as I am, however. Hell, once I lost all my phone contacts, and used it to get my friend's phone numbers back. I still felt really bad about it as it really is an invasion of privacy.

There is a chance someone might break into my house and kill me tonight. Doesn't mean I stop in my tracks and sit in a corner with a shotgun. Constant fear of something that MIGHT happen is called paranoia. I can go break into someones window right now to prove a point that locks on doors are pointless... But if you WANT to get arrested, go harass the following Blizzard employees to prove your "point": Frank "Do you really want chat rooms?" Pearce Dustin "Terrible, terrible damage!" Browder Greg "Don't nerf me, bro!" Street and Ely Cannon Tom Thompson Geoff Fraizer Eric Dodds Geoff Goodman Kevin Jordan Chris Kaleiki Russel Bernau Braiin Birmingam Jesse Bloomberg Alec Dun Omar Gonzalez Scott Hartin Kevin M. Kelly Collin Murray Ron Nakada Thomas Yip Caroline Wu Wayne Lee Gary Young Ok, that should keep you guys busy for awhile. On July 07 2010 08:55 Liquid`NonY wrote: Political commentators? I should have the option of AT LEAST blocking out my name so it says SXXXXXCXXXXX s and c being my initials, and the rest of my name is blocked out. Not doing so is invasion of privacy - simple. Not giving users the choice one way or the other is wrong. Those of you who can't understand that I think are beyond hope. But you don't have to post on the official B.net forums, if it bothers you that much. You can post elsewhere. ![]()

Just because personal information of everybody is available on the internet doesn't mean that certain people aren't going to look for it if you're in a certain position.

I think you were trying to say that people who have huge followings and do not seem to become victims of the crazed Internet. Its true, that it doesn't happen frequently, I will concede that point. However the fact is that it does occur. The world is a dangerous place with sociopaths who will kill you for killing one too many scvs if given the chance. Why allow these rare individuals more tools to locate their potential victims? Why allow a future employer to see information that you would not like to have at their fingertips? You are supporting Blizzard in this yet I have yet to see you raise a valid point in thread. Speak now or concede you do not have a valid point to raise: If this system is implemented how is it beneficial to the STarcraft II community? Edit: Yes. I am a Biology Major(Intrigued with cellular biology at the moment). It's beneficial because it raises quality by raising accountability. It's the first thing I said!

Given your outdated Myspace information, I can make the correct calls and inquires to trace your movements. You have old landlords, old bills, and old contacts. Once you relocate your trail does not disappear.

This is the internet we are talking about here. Not everyone plays nice and hell, there are some pretty fucked up people out there. Type of people who would actually track you down and beat you up or threaten you or even kill you over something that has happened in game. We've read about this many times in newspapers and lol'd at it. What Blizzard is doing is giving people an even easier way for others to track you down. It's difficult to find you if you have a very very common name. But I don't have a very common name, I have a unique one and so do many thousands of people who play Blizz games. Imagine how easy it would be for somebody to track me down just because I beat them at a game. This is the dumbest move i've seriously ever seen any company do.

Why exactly is "exposing the real names of trolls" supposed to be a deterrent to trolling? Do they want us to track down and punish the trolls ourselves? I do not understand how this helps us.

But couldn´t you do that with nicknames as RealIDs? i mean whats the point of the REALID beeing youre real name and not a nickname that is bound to youre account?

This is due only to poor moderation. TL does fine with everyone under a pseudonym; the mods are able to keep spammers and trolls out with little trouble. Blizzard has a paid staff of community managers. If they aren't banning people for what they're doing on those awfully run forums, they're not doing their jobs.
