And yet, allowing anyone to see your full name is not something I would even remotely consider on a public forum like that.
It now appears that if I post on the new blizzard forums, and happen to make a vague reference to where I live I will have announced to them exactly where I live, seeing how I'm the only person with my name in this country.
Honestly, I don't know what to say. I guess I'll either never post on those forums or I'll have to get another blizzard account. I was looking forward to the real ID part for use with close friends that play wow and other blizzard games though so it seems like a pretty crap decision for my part.

1. Put fake name on account 2. Troll This won't stop anything
Hypothetically if Blizzard someday did only digital releases for games they could make sure you aren't faking information. If your billing info for your CC is "john doe" then they can just associate your battle.net account with your cc info. It's not like it's impossible...

Seems very wrong to me.
I understand where they're coming from, there was a time years and years ago when the b.net forums were a source of good info; now it's just troll-city.
But having someone's personal info out there... I'm not so sure about that. Anyone with half a brain can go a long way to figuring out a lot of details on a person once they've got their name. Even if some random non-gamer comes to the forums to cause trouble (hello, 4chan), this just seems to make it too easy.
I guess these things will be clarified in time. Hopefully I'm totally wrong.

Next on the list. Team Liquid Account will be linked to your battle.net account and your TL user name will be <First Name> <Alias> <Last Name>! Honestly I don't like people knowing my real life name and last name on a video game or for complete and utter strangers to see, such a horrible idea and what's been posted before people will get around it with a simple fake name account unless of course they start to confirm your identity with your social security number or some other bullspit.

You can, but every step to make it more difficult takes out a certain amount of those trolls.
That said, I edited my post after re-reading and properly comprehending the OP and I think this is an absolutely terrible idea.

Jesus....... They'd better be trolling. Who the... what is.. I mean.. this... can't even... sausages.
I imagine my future boss googling my name. "Yeah so this guy likes to debate on how the siege upgrade should cost 20 minerals and 15 more gas. I'll definitely aiur him".

It'd be even easier to troll people then, as they are probably assuming no one is going to troll with their real names. I'd troll with my real name.
|
I'll just use a fake name for my Bnet account. They can't force me to post under my real life name no matter how much they try.
I will be known as Komissar Trollunov

no posting anymore for me, if they realy show our full names
|
how about instead of fixing their freaking forums they put some more effort into fixing the beta.
so much for privacy on the internet...

Completely agree with you that this is fantastic.
I think it's hilarious to see how many people are posting here about how awful it's going to be and how they're worried about potential employer's could see what they're up to.
Take some accountability for the things you're doing. If you're really doing something you're so ashamed and frightened of people finding out about that you don't feel comfortable putting your "real" name to it, should you really be doing it?
Man up and take some pride in the things you do or re-evaluate your life...

This won't stop anything. day after release, if i were to go onto the Bnet forums I'd see the Real ID "BLah Blah" as a persons actual name, this wont stop anything. Luckily I won't be posting there. I'll stick to TL <3

There will probably be less activity, but the quality of posts and the amount of thoughts that go into a post will drastically increase. I 100% support this and would not mind if it was implemented in the game as well. People need to stop hiding behind the internet and realize that they should be civil.
On a second note, there should be an arena thread where terrible players who think they know what they are talking about because they are "#1 platinum" can bo5 people who actually play the game well. The losers name should be added to a list so people will know to take their posts with a grain of salt.
Completely disagree. Every stupid post is not a troll post. People on the internet that play games are generally stupid. If anyone thinks post "quality" will go up they are out of their minds.
There is absolutely no reason for this and its a huge invasion of privacy. Why on earth would anyone want to link their real life with video games? What possible reason would there be to force you to use your real name with thoughts on a video game. This is a garbage idea.

It's not me i'm worried about. It's you crazy fucknuts. I know a pedo when i see one mister.

I dont usually get involved, but seeing as im the only (to date) yes-voter, i'm compelled to justify.
I don't think its a bad idea; i can imagine it as a bunch of real names which really have no meaning. It'll be a clusterfuck of ambiguity still, so anonymity would be, in a sense, preserved. And for the big names, they can attach their in game name to it so they can be recognized, if they so desire.
In the end, I'd rather have this, than to remember which of Artosis.111, Artosis.112, Artosis.113, etc. is the real one. Dan is easier to remember. But i guess this stems from the (irrational?) clause of non-unique names.
Maybe it'll stop shit posters from posting ridiculous thing, as it does peel away from the layer of internet anonymity, and the "hide behind the monitor" thing has been tampered with.

I like privacy on the Internet, why, googling employers, people i don't ever want to meet again, complete strangers i have no interest to ever meet or know etc.
This is a terrible idea from our point of view. But i guess now they can be sure that negative feedback on what they do is cut down in there forums. Think about it, all those blizzard fan boys who don't really think through what this means will be some of the only people left on there now.
Well, i guess i could live with it being optional but seriously they could just look up the real name when they need to (for banning and other purposes) without completely robbing us of our privacy.
