Completely agree with you that this is fantastic.

I think it's hilarious to see how many people are posting here about how awful it's going to be and how they're worried about potential employer's could see what they're up to.

Take some accountability for the things you're doing. If you're really doing something you're so ashamed and frightened of people finding out about that you don't feel comfortable putting your "real" name to it, should you really be doing it?

Man up and take some pride in the things you do or re-evaluate your life...

The possibility of less trolling posts (less CR jobs, more money etc) at the cost of personal information is a retarded trade.

Man up? Give me a break.

Bad idea really, i have nothing against making more quality mature posters, but this will just head to direction trolls having fake id:s making threats to ppl who are actually using their real names. This is a video game forum after all and some kids just seem to like making other people suffer no matter what.

This will just help them do that.

Do you then deny that some people, such as bosses, can look on what you are proud of doing and use it as a reason not to hire you? Deciding you are proud of your gaming habits or whatever it is you don't want public does not make people any less judgmental. People have lost and still do lose jobs (among other things, but jobs are a very tangible thing) due to the information they let slip onto the internet.

So really, while your "man up" philosophy is great and all should apply themselves to it immediately - there are plenty of serious reasons for not giving out a shred of information about yourself on the internet.

I don't understand why this is a problem..

Is hiding your nerd rage behind a made up name really that important?

All of the serious guilds/clans I was ever a member of we stopped using our handles and used real names all the time.. because we liked to have intelligent conversations that we didn't mind taking credit for.

I was switching back and fourth from SC2 forums and TL forums before they announced this. Now I'm here with you guys for good. Dumb move Blizz. A simple google search of my name will come up with my current school, its location, and my website linked with that school giving even more info out about me.

No thanks.

as to above poster. Look at my reasons why it's a bad idea.

This is pretty awful, but not like Blizzard forums have ever been worth visiting for anything other than laughing at all the 100% wrong claims people make etc. so I don't really care since it doesn't affect me at all :p

e-relationships are important, yes. But, ask yourself if you really want to be friends with every one of the regular posters on the battle.net forums.

This is far better than facebook integration. Also they will save tons of money because they no longer need to moderate their forums, as hardly anyone will ever post there...

Seriously what is there to be so afraid of? If you are a civil poster, who cares? Can advertisers find out who you are based on your name only?

On second thought, i'm actually starting to agree with this.

All of the big people in SC2 have already revealed their names though some medium or another. Who cares about the names of little nobodies?

Real life operates just fine without anonymity, why is it terrible to have our names on the internet?

EPORTS - gaming is the only sport where people are not known by their real name, this alienates SC professionals from any other professional sports player.

Somehow with the way Blizzard has been going, I feel like money was involved with this change... are they insane?

Alright, give us your real name and lets see what we can dig up on you.

no one wants their real name on a forum, who knows what other people will do with it?
and what with people with like strange names? people will probably make fun of them nice isn't that? trying to ask a question and boom people are all over you
and what if you are 1 of the only 1 with a last name? nice getting in a argue with them and then they can easily track you down nothing can keep them from doing that then

cant wait for people with the same name as famous people complaining to blizzard for banning them for having a ,,fake name,,

Yeah, people in your guild/clans. People you've already decided that you like enough to give them your real name. On the Blizzard forums, you just have to make one completely reasonable post, which some idiot you've had no prior contact with misinterprets or doesn't like, and that person can go and find all kinds of information about you and use it for whatever the hell they like. I'm not okay with that.

I don't get it why so many people are afraid that others will find out who you are IRL.

As if Blizzard hadn't made the Bnet Forums abhorrent enough as it is. While I post very little as is, with this change I will not be posting at all. Sorry Blizzard but we don't want 1000s of strangers knowing our real names first and last, my first name I'd be okay with, but both - absolutely not.

Edit: The whole point of creating a pseudonym online is to hide your identity. I don't mind telling the people here on TL my real name is Sean - but if I wanted to be known by my real name I'd have made that my account name. I don't. I want to be known as SichuanPanda - hence my account name. Blizzard just doesn't get it do they.
