When you post in a forum where EVERYONE has a name, how do you know if its real or not? Assuming you are a crazy person who wants to track down someone who doesn't agree with you, how do you know its even their real name? You don't. everyone here knows these names here are fake you muppet, on blizzard forums everyone will know that the names are real. except for the fact that more than 50% of the community is saying that they will use a fake name you truly must be with low IQ
Good point.
You make a good argument.
If there is someone named Jasón Jasso on the bnet forums, how do you know if its them or not? If you google Jasón Jasso you get his facebook and other information, but what if its not him (in my case its not)
You would end up harassing someone who probably doesnt even know what starcraft is.
There will be no way to pick out the real names from the fake.

if someone with a fake name annoys a troll, the troll will go harass some random person with the same name. do you fail to see the problem there?

So innocent, completely unaffiliated people who happen to share the same name (IE another level of fun for trolls) get the brunt of any insane retribution because someone decided to use their name?
And as I said... for most people, their old accounts are probably accurate. Their new accounts, from here-on... not so much, additionally defeating the entire reported purpose behind the change. Further cementing the idea that unique identifiers don't need to be a person's real name to provide the same level of accountability.

If can't take not posting and you're so mad about having your name connected to the things you say on the internet, whatever you were going to post is exactly the kind of thing the rest of us hate reading and maybe you shouldn't be saying it in the first place.
To those upset: Your name isn't anything special and you're not anything special. No one gives a shit about tracking you down and more people in real life hate you than ever will over the internet. Get over yourself. its easy to have this attitude when your identity has yet to be compromised. its also not about anyone thinking they are special. if this is really your attitude then i suggest you actually read some of the articles posted in this thread. And tbh this change is just so absurdly unneeded compared to just making you pick one nickname to post on forums with. You are then accountable by the forum community by your words and it can't really spill into your RL. I mean truthfully I'm not so afraid of having an axemurdered walk up to me from a post a made on the forums, nor that a future employer googles my name, sees im a gamer and goes all "omogmomgomg" but since there's no real reason to risk it or open up that possibility this is a crap move by Blizzard.
dont get me wrong im not locking myself in a bunker (to be later salvaged, LOLZ) either. im just saying that there could be cases where this would turn out to be very bad. If it happens to one of us then it COULD happen to all of us...Instead of taking a chance, why not just eliminate the possibility. I agree with your last statement completely.

I dont want to post with my real name on those forums cause I dont want people to know my real name, as it then becomes available on internet and people can google me, future and current employers can google me and see where Ive posted and that can cost me my job potentially or even worse some freak gets angry at me and decides to get medieval on my arse....you are a true moron....
Or you could send an email to the designated support email address, fill out the support contact form, or call them on the support line instead of worrying about the hypothetical job you'll never qualify for that cares about you posting on a support forum for a video game and somehow linking your completely unique snowflake name back to you.
Blizzard forums are completely worthless and this makes them slightly less worthless. I watched Husky's moronic video and it was just as silly as his other one. Almost all the articles and complaints on this subject are based in hypothetical slippery slope arguments and are continuum fallacies instead of actual reality.
All the real problems are solved by not using the Blizzard forums, which in no way impacts your ability to use the rest of the service.

50% of the community ? where ? TL isn't 50% of the community 2000 pages of posting isn't even near a 5% of the WoW players.
New players will come and they will be harassed for sure. And it only takes 1 person to be harassed in Real Life to prove that the system fails, and it will happen, a 3 Million people country have stalkers, murderers, paedophilia, TROLLS, and stuff, now imagine a 12Million Country were most of them are Male and they are USED TO TROLL... In a game were a lot of feelings get involved (people breaking up their computers cz they lost a match or a raid or whatever).
Yes, you might be safe, I might be safe, maybe all the TL community will be safe, but what about the others ? You really think that you are the only player in the world ?
Jesus I hate this kind of arguments... such selfish prick.

Having your real name known hasn't stopped people from arguing and being stupid in the past. People did this before the internet existed.
All this does is create problems that wouldn't exist if not forced to post on your real name.
