I have the CMN3, its just their anti-cheating software, works ok I guess, obviously ways around it but its not harmful at all, thousands of players use it and its not an issue. I would like to see some TL people go on there and own it up lol.
|
The website is confusing. I can't figure out how to register lol
|
SC2's release date is 7/27, that's cutting it pretty close... good to see these major orgs picking up sc2 though!

You really should've asked around with the top level players which maps to choose for the map pool..... =\
|
i hate CMN3 it always lagged me in cs matches, i'll probably still play though
|
I finally registered...I think.
The website is tricky. You have to register for an account if you don't have one. (I do from my CSS days...) and then register yourself as a new 1-Man team. And then go to My Account > Unique Game Ids and put in your Bnet name (xxx.xxx) and then you should be good to go!
BTW is it just me or does every page on the CEVO website load incredibly slow?
EDIT: You also need to go to Manage My Teams and register for the event itself.
|
Very good initiative by CEVO. I played tournaments with them for more than 2 years and it was always very well ran.
|
You guys might want to shorten the dates a bit. Blizzard is planning to have alot of downtime for SC2 about 2 weeks or more before release.
|
Signed up for this.. but I haven't played much sc2 since I got into the beta. Probably about 50ish 1v1 games played so far at around 1300 platinum. Oh well, hoping to win a few rounds to get my name out there.

edit: yeah, i always hated the cevo website design.. REALLY needs a revamp. honestly even the ECO site is better. they could take some notes from ESEA, and even ESEA could use work lol

They need to say what server this is for, I assume USA, I'm sure people from other servers have already signed up.

Wait... they aren't using lost temple or Metapolis, 2 of the most balanced maps for the tournament? Also they have desert oasis as part of the map pool :/ Can someone who is running this explain why lt and meta aren't being used?

Probably because of CEVOs persistently badly run tournaments

I just wanted you to elaborate on your opinion.
Was it a CS tournament that was not well ran? Why was said experience not satisfactory? Was it because of the map pool that time as well? Maybe this time this tournament could be different. Your opinion could be very constructive but instead you just spilled out random shit out of your ass.
|
I would have thought that this map pool would have been evidence enough, but ok, here it goes.
In the past, in a tournament I participated in, they had a very similarly organized strict schedule for matches to be played. Of course, real life happens, and admins allowed matches to be delayed, which caused rounds to be played much before others, leaving more conflicting scheduling issues. The tournament was delayed weeks, and eventually teams lost interests because the deadlines for matches and hours matches were to be played were insignificant.
In addition, admin support for tournaments has been lacking and contacting an admin took much longer than it should have.
In this tournament already, you have 3 of the worst maps in the game in the pool, without any 4 player maps (LT, Metal, Kulas).
On top of that, they plan to end the tournament days before Beta is supposed to be brought down, meaning any delays in the tournament will cause it not to be finished.
Edit: Forgot to mention they didn't pay out their prizes.

This is neat, but hopefully the beta doesn't end in the middle of it.
|
I agree with Mirhi - The dota tournaments run by Cevo were usually delayed and prolonged so by the end everyone lost interest and it just never finished. There site is so hard to navigate. I signed up regardless!
|
Yeha, i am confused. Beta goes down june 11th, and game doesnt come back untill july 27th..... this tourney is basically scheduled right in that period of time
|
oh beta goes down on june 11th? ><
|
I registered and made my 1man team, but i don't see the event anywhere
|
|
They pay out their prizes fine from what I'm aware. Although that doesn't make CEVO a great organizer since like Mirhi said they have awful map choices and for a 128 man tournament that can be finished in a day or two, they decide to draw it out for a month at which the beta will probably go down.
|
OMG why muts they enforce cmn 3.. its the most useless application ever it doesnt even work..

Hey Guys,
Seems to be some simply incorrect information here.
A. CEVO pays out it's prizes. If you had/have an issue with a prize you would to contact Charlie Plitt the president of cevo at cplitt@cevo.com
B. The CMN3 Anti Cheat Client works great. Since I have worked with CEVO I have personally been involved in disputes where CMN has caught dozens of cheaters for dozens of different games. It's not an automatic kick you out of the game client. The review of the client is done after the fact and players are banned all the time in every game we run. This is not mearly a screenshot client. It has access to detect any cheat in existence and is updated on a sometimes nearly daily basis as we find new cheats. Often we are even capable of catching people with cheats for earlier matches when we didn't know the cheat existed at the time. Will I say that it catches 100% of everything, no there is nothing that does.
C. As you all have said this is a First for CEVO. CEVO was founded way after Starcraft came out and was founded on FPS games. That doesn't mean CEVO doesn't have an interest in RTS games, that couldn't be further from the truth. What they have been lacking is someone to push it into CEVO, which Starcraft II and myself has rectified.
D. CEVO does listen to the community. I / We are not under the impression that we know the best way to do everything. I will openly admit this is the first time I have ran a Starcraft II competition. The majority of CEVO admins are actually volunteers and are gamers like yourself that want to help out and make a difference. Yes any of you can apply and help out with events and help plan them. Just goto the website and click apply on the bottom right.
E. If you have a problem get support. CEVO has it, we are known for it. There is someone on our vent support almost everyday of the week but especially Sundays - Thursdays from about 8pm to about 1am EST. In addition we have the support ticket system with tickets responded to within 24-48 hours in most cases.

Starcraft 2 Beta Tournament – UPDATE
Due to the announcement that the BETA for Starcraft 2 will end May 31st we have decided to make the following changes to the OCZ Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty BETA Tournament.
The tournament registration will now end Saturday May 22nd 2010.
The tournament format will now be Single Elimination for up to 128 players.
The players participating will be broken up into 8 brackets of 16 players in which matches will be played best of 1 with assigned maps in each round. Only the top one player in each of the 8 16 player qualification brackets will go to the: 8 person, best of 3, single elimination playoffs.
Matches will be played every day for 7 days to complete all 7 rounds.
The first match will be played Monday May 24th 2010 and will be played each night until Sunday May 30th 2010.
Due to this Rush schedule we will be using default times of 9:30 pm CST (10:30 EST, 8:30MST, 7:30 PST) if players cannot agree otherwise.
Also the rules have been updated to the following map pool:
Blistering Sands. Steppes of War, Metapolis, Scrap Station , Lost Temple
Please also note that this tournament is supposed to be for residents in the USA/ Canada and is to be played on the North American Battle.net servers for Starcraft 2. Players from other countries are welcome, but need to play on the North American servers for the game.
Updated Schedule: - Round 1 - Mon 5/24 - Steppes of War - Round 2 - Tue 5/25 - Lost Temple - Round 3 – Wed 5/26 - Scrap Station - Round 4 – Thu 5/27 - Metapolis - Round 5 - Fri 5/28 - Blistering Sands - Round 6 – Sat 5/29 - Steppes of War - Round 7 - Sun 5/30 - Lost Temple
|
Looks like a big improvement, but I don't know why the matches are being played over multiple days if they are a best of 1 till it gets to the quarterfinals. It would be much simpler and easier for people to play their preliminary games 1 day and have the quater/semis/finals another day (you could possibly split those 3 up as well).
|
I tried signing up, followed the pictures and everything, but I have no idea what I'm doing still. Your site is confusing as hell and all this team crap is just annoying and pointless for an individual 1v1 tournament. Not sure if I signed up correctly and I'm not sure if I even care if I did.
|
Huge improvement for sure. Changed my mind on whether to sign up or not. Looking forward to it
|
Do you realize how freakishly small the player limit is for this cevo thing. How do i Ready up?
|
CagedMind you need to put int your identifier under your profile.
Alou you are good to go.
|
hah i see cauthonluck a few notches above my name.
|
doesnt beta end on the 31st or something of may? and they said they werent opening back up till release isnt it? how's this going to work lol
|
|
Can people not been set as ready [ even after unique ID ] cuz the event is now full?
|
Does being in A group mean you're ready? When u click on each name the left bar that says @Ready Roster looks the same for everyone.
also saw some notable names i thought i might mention..
cauthonluck louder qxc
|
That event is now full. If you are set A you are ready and in the event.
|
Took 30 minutes to finally register for this tourney, but I managed to. I really hope their fucked up website isn't any indication of what this tournament will be like.
EDIT: wow I must have gotten one of the last spots.
|
Yes actually you got the very last spot.
|
this is gonna be great, cevo runs a sweet 1.6 league

I had no issues registering on their website. Maybe because I am used to using a website to register for stuff.

*fixed!
I'm really excited that cevo decided to pickup sc2. They're a great cs 1.6 league with a very helpful and professional staff, I have nothing but love for cevo!
|
cevo will most likely be unknown in sc2. This tournament is small compared to the bunch of weekly tournaments that happen. I played some competitive tf2 and cevo was lackluster. People started considering it a joke. It has to be a million times easier to signup and tournaments run better before people will take it serious at all.
|
CEVO's L4D tourney was run pretty badly too. I can't say I see the SC2 tourney going too well (though updating the map pool to include Metalopolis and LT was a step in the right direction), but it's single-elimination Bo1, might as well just participate for the lulz.

Maybe "small" in the sc2 community, but cevo is huge and well known for its amazing tournaments and prize/sponsor connections, be thankful people.

my problem with dates is that beta ends may 31st (13 days) so it may notnecessarily be back by when you start... seems a certain timetable currently could throw your tuorny out of whack
|
RyanRushia,
The time table was updated to the following:
- Round 1 - Mon 5/24 - Steppes of War - Round 2 - Tue 5/25 - Lost Temple - Round 3 – Wed 5/26 - Scrap Station - Round 4 – Thu 5/27 - Metapolis - Round 5 - Fri 5/28 - Blistering Sands - Round 6 – Sat 5/29 - Steppes of War - Round 7 - Sun 5/30 - Lost Temple
|
Got my first opponent, scheduled for tomorrow. Just a question.. are you allowed to change race for every opponent you play? Is random allowed as well? Do you have to inform your opponent which race you are picking prior to getting in game lobby? Not sure how this works

I like how you label that as "simply incorrect" when I'm pretty positive the majority of us that have experienced cevo's anticheat believe it's a piece of shit. To quote you again "it has access to detect any cheat in existence", aside from that being false (do you know how your own AC works?) I'm willing to bet there's a total of 0 sc2 hacks that it scans for.
Normally I'd say any anticheat is better than no anticheat, but with all the technical difficulties and issues CMN3 brings along, it's just not worth it.

Actually it has a pretty bad reputation in most other communities.

Mr. Martjin,
With your attitude I will never be able to convince you the technology works. It does and I have caught dozens of cheaters with it. You can say or believe anything you want.
It's like little kids pointing fingers at eat other and saying HE/She Did it.
As for race Mrgoochino you can pick any race you want in game.

Well isn't that somewhat a natural consequence of your own wording? You say it has access to detect any cheat in existence. Obviously that's misleading because you imply it can detect every cheat, which is nonsense. Saying it "has access" to detect any cheat is nothing more than a marketing term, void of any really meaning. Congratulations, it's an application that can hook into directx and track the services/processes running. I'm not going to explain how obviously, but as someone who's dealt with anticheat for quite a long time, I can tell you it's quite easy to hide what's going on or even avoid CMN3 "having access" to what's going on.
Anyone who has dealt with Charlie Plitt cringes when they hear CEVO. I still remember that awesome CEVO admin vent convo that was recorded, hilarious.

That is nice, we get it, you don't like CEVO. Why are you derailing this thread? Some people are here to have fun in a tournament put on by an organisation which is going to help boost the SC2 scene outside of Korea.

won on my first match on steppes.. reported my win and its showing correctly everywhere except for the standings page.. which isn't getting updated for some reason.
edit: nvm got updated
|
looks like we'll need to update our accnt names somehow

yea, and i rahter not put my email into a public area where spammmmmmm can get me

do we leave our names as they were or do we need to update names? Now that patch 13 has removed the 2nd part of our names, it seems like names need to updated. For instance, I am now Hashbean instead of Hasbean.roor. Also, I can't think of anyway we'll be able to locate our matches in-game without knowing e-mail or Facebook info

Has anyone figured out how we are suposed to contact our opponent for cevo?
I can't figure out what the new IDs or the email addresses are for my opponent.

they haven't released any info for it.. and with bnet in its current state the tourny seems next to impossible atm

its been full and has already started.. not sure if you've been on b.net lately but there is no identifier system in account IDs anymore (so that isn't your account u just posted lol)

aren't you placed ina chat room when you start up the cmn3 ?

Hey,
Don't worry about IDs for round 1, we are aware they are all wrong.
You can share your email through either the Match Communication thread or in the CMN3 client.

No idea how to use your site. I lost, Kalden won.

I didn't even use it. Me and my opponent both said "F it" and agreed to not waste our time using it.
|
wait WTF
I was online at the time given to us (or to me, given by the opponent) and yet I got a "forfeit"/loss...
... what do I do now?
|
Antimage,
You didn't get into the CMN3 client was required by the rules. There was a reminder in your match comm post (as everyone had) that it was required for use. Your opponent was there and waiting for you.
|
rofl I thought that was an antihack program? I was going to install it right before my game - I really don't like having 3rd party software on my computer so I don't install/download these things until i really have to...
You guys should really tell us what that program was about, instead of me finding out that it's MORE than an antihack.

I can see how that could get misconstrued Antimage. It's a lot more then an Anticheat. It's a communication tool that allows you and your opponent to chat before your match and in addition allows us to track everything on a match like when you logged in, logged out. Detect possible cheats on your computer, etc. It's quite a powerful program with a wide range of functionality that is always growing.
I hope to see you in the next tournament when the game comes out.
|
So, me and my partner Marf played the games, I reported I won 2-0 against him (I think it got reported?) and now we both got a forfeit? This has definitely been the single most confusing tournament setup I've ever seen.
|
So if your opponent didn't use the anticheat he's DQ'd? Is that why I advanced over Tanc?
|
The score wasn't reported for the match and MarF was in client so it was assumed the match wasn't played.
Why did you not use the client and MarF why did you let it be played without the client on both sides?
If MarF wants to give you the win I can fix it, but you will need to use the client. It is not optional.
|
I didn't know he wasn't using the client But ya give him the win, i got raped
|
Taken care of MarF.
Tanc, you have a BYE for your next match as the match before it ended in both opponents not playing the match.
|
I didn't know we had to have the anti-cheat thing, didn't even know there was one.
Regardless, thanks MarF

I like the CMN3 ready room, it helps get the match underway a lot easier since you can talk to each other in it.
|
yes, cevo's layout is pretty unorganized.. however, if youre at all interested in the actual tourny, theres plenty of resources to read on their site to figure it out. i feel like a lot of players only want to compete in free tourny with prize without even reading the rules. my .02
|
It's a good thing i have experience with the CMN3 client from CS as it seems most people are confused... heh
|
woot passed the first round. I noticed Evil Geniuses got the boot though...

cmn 3 is a useless piece of garbage and cevo tourneys are incredibly unorganized and random

To much stuff involved. They are trying to make it easier, but in reality it's 10 times harder to someone who has never been in a CEVO tournament before.

Hey does anyone know Rusha? We have to get our match completed today. Hopefully you log on here and see this in time

Anyone has a link to the grid?
I don't find any clues.

This is "team" klaxen.kayern, I won my round 2 match against Naturephoenix, but he accused me of cheating in game and then reported he won (lol?) I filed a dispute with cevo's dispute system, but if anyone runs in to this guy he is scum. I have the replay/screenshot to prove I won.
*edit* here is the replay: http://www.yawningdogs.com/files/klaxen/round2-losttemple-win.SC2Replay

cevo owns, there system is great once you get use to it :D

I thought the beta was going to be down. Did we find out what day the beta is coming back online?

|
OMG ! i missed this shit? damnit!!

I used to play Dota in CEVO. It's a great way for competitive players who aren't currently the most top tier to break into the competitive scene. I found the system well maintained, though there was certainly room for improvement. Their client program is problematic now and then, but they have good admins/tech support who are available a lot of time.
That's just some of my own experiences I thought I'd share with people who are not that familiar with CEVO.

moving onto game 4.. getting close to championship bracket. idk what i'm going to do since i'll be in vegas this weekend. laptop hotel competition?

Detect possible cheats on your computer, etc. It's quite a powerful program with a wide range of functionality that is always growing.
I hope to see you in the next tournament when the game comes out.
I also got confused by this. What happend was my opponent never responded to any of my match time proposition and assumed he wasn't looking at the cevo tourney so I was expecting a FF win. But the admin said that apparently you had to be logged in and wait to in order to get it.
Kinda frustrating to be honest but I guess it's my bad for only reading the rules on here and not looking on the website for more info...
Please clarify for the next tournament.

it clearly states that if a match proposal isn't finalized for any reason, the match will be automatically set to default time and should be played as such and that CMN3 is required by both players.. sorry to hear about your situation. it does seem like a lot of the players are confused since many are new to the cevo system. this is also my first time playing a cevo event fwiw

So I just beat my opponent exploit, and he just raged at me and reported my Win as a loss
I offered to do a bo3, then he said no. After I won he wanted a bo3 and started calling me a pussy.
I can't believe someone from a well known team like team pandemic would be so bad mannered.
The admins are helping me out with it though... Great support!
heres the rep if any of you want to see him rage http://www.mediafire.com/?tjei5migu2y

b.net is down....and me and my opponent are supposed to play in 10 min >_<

LOL! Funny rep, everyone should watch What a joke...
Apparently it's bad manner to not bo3 when your opponent declines your previous offer and then loses
And yeah, unfortunately does not give pandemic a great rep
|
ahahaha
exploit is the best scout in tf2, plays for complexity
|
i thought all matches supposed to be bo3?
|
championship bracket is bo3
|
Battle.net patch might screw up the tourney, Thursday matches cant happen now.
|
Bob me and you tonight, Let's try and play this evening i can be on for a couple more hours if you can.
P.S. - GG Chease saw the rep.
Cheers
|
lost my game to move to championship bracket.. really pissed me off as i really screwed up my opening. didn't get to warmup since b.net went down and went straight into my game. oh well, my opponent played well and deserves the win. gg and see you all next time.
|
gg man, that's one of the best tvt's I've played in a while. No annoying mistakes with tank/viking micro.

Exploit informed me that it was painuser smurfing on his account for this game. I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is that's pretty upsetting.

Unfortunately I had to catch a plane and my laptop battery was dying so I tried to cheese Red Alert game 3 to ruin our otherwise great series. It was a really well run tournament though and I think future CEVO tournaments will be awesome

On May 15 2010 01:07 Mirhi wrote: I would have thought that this map pool would have been evidence enough, but ok, here it goes.
Which three maps are you talking about? I hate oasis and incineration zone but the rest seem fine.
|
so when are prizes for this being shipped?
|
If it's anything like counter strike tournament's you usually get your prizes a month after, the completion of the event. I dunno about you but I am pretty thirsty for some energy drinks!
|
At the end of every month prizes get shipped, and the tourny ended may 31 lolz

It's their anti hack client. Also if you do not have it, you will not register as showing up on CEVOs system and will be disqualified. I believe this happened to a few people in the turny.
|
Wow, you expect people to go through all that for a voluntary job?
Edit: also, the tournaments section is not the right place to recruit.

did you guys fill out your competitive earnings forms and mail them to CEVO accounting?

Way to advertise on TeamLiquid *cough*envious...
Allow players to sign up without downloading your third party software and be less controlling or else nobody is going to like CEVO.

Their 3rd party software was nice, it makes a room for you and your opponent to join just before the scheduled match and allows you to communicate with each other that way. If you do not want to download it then maybe you shouldn't bother participating and wait for another tournament to come out without those requirements.

Well fuck I did not see that mentioned anywhere. That information is really buried in the site and I got no info after the tournament ended from admin or anything. I'll try and send that thing in now . Thanks
