if they really get on you for that just be like its part of the rap they wont hit you or think its uncool... now if u said it to them and in a demeaning tone then yeah you'd get hate in any case if anyone is still afraid theres always the word vinegar its close enough | ||

But I agree that the word "nigger/nigga" is starting to evolve. I don't think it's supposed to be used as a racial slur against black people, but used to describe black people who act like thugs and gangsters and walk around with gold teeth and stuff. I think it's starting to switch to that meaning ever since rappers like lil wayne and solja boy start to use it in their songs. The word starts to lose it's edge and vulgarity when you hear it 50 times in any rap song that has come out in the last 5 years. | ||

I don't think I would ever say it in front of a black person even if they said it was alright, unless we were good friends. BTW, "nigger" is always offensive whereas "nigga" is more acceptable because you are invoking the casual usage present in rap songs. | ||

People use racial insults within their own community to unify the common struggle that they have to go through. I guess you could somewhat compare it to the term "nerd". It can be used to insult people, but then people who are called nerds seem to unify under this term The struggle that black people have to go through I think is still something which is a relevant topic. People are quick to believe that the age of racism is over, but we should realize that all these horrendous racist things that we hear about didn't happen that long ago. Did you know that Quincy Jones (Michael Jackson's producer) had to struggle to get Michael Jackson's Thriller to be played on MTV? because he was black  Chris Rock even mentions in his stand up how in his neighborhood, the only black neighbors are really famous black people like Mary J Blidge and other black celebrites, whereas his next door neighbour is a white dentist  | ||

nigger is derived from the dutch word(not proud of it) neger which in turn is derived from negeren (translated: ignore) and yes the dutch WIC made sure you got all the negers from Africa...In Brooklyn there is even a cemetery called, Begraafplaats van de Neger. Another reason why black people are called niggers, is that most Africans who were deported to the USA were from the area called Nyger near the Niger-river, that country is nowadays called Nigeria. I just wanted to point out some irregularities, to my opinion it is wrong to say it has to do with Portuguese of Spanish people. The only root it has is because it supposedly derived from the latin word Niger. (again the reason why the area in Africa is called the Nyger area). It simply doesn't even if mighty Wikipedia states something different. Just to make sure, the word nigger to me is just a word, to me it has no racial slang(just like other dutch people said earlier before on this forum). | ||
