If I can give you my opinion about it and I think most will agree with me: it's way too much maps for a tournament, it's definitely not standard at all to have 7 maps and it will be very hard for the players to train all match-ups on all of these. Standard is 4 to 5 maps.

You might want to message all of the players directly about the new map pool as they aren't necessarily keeping up to date with the thread.

Can you confirm this with the players please? I just mentioned it to NonY on stream and he seemed to be under the impression that Nostalgia and Arcadia are still in the map pool and that the maps would not be changed from the qualifier stage.

I think the map pool is awesome. Some of the best older maps + new ones.

Players should receive an email tomorrow with all the details (including the map pool). I just wanted to make sure people here knew asap about the change re maps because I guess they're still training on the wrong maps...

IMO it is very very very dumb you guys invited FBH. It's like SC2 mentality that Koreans and Foreign players should coexist, and then Koreans dominate everything because they are better. I won't even follow this tournament because of the denseness of Firebathero getting invited. Feel free to quote me after he easily wins here.

zzzz would have appreciated a little more notice. Never heard of (1) qualifier maps and finals maps being different and (2) announcing finals maps less than 2 weeks before.

I agree with NonY. Changing the map pool 10 days before the tournament is something I can hardly undurstand. Expecially if you consider the fact that more than half of those are modern maps. I'm not sure if the organizers realize how long it takes to prepare for a single map in StarCraft 1. This is not StarCraft 2.

It's also strange that there are 7 maps in the map pool when we obviously will not play any bo7 matches.

definitely agree that the map pool should be cut down to 4. 7 is way too many for a bw tournament, especially when half of them are going to be veto'd and never played anyway.

keep FS and outsider as they were used in the qualifiers
imo the last two should be circuit breaker (as it was a qualifier map as well) and new bloody ridge (only 2p map used in qualifiers)

not the greatest pool but should be considered out of fairness for everyone

edit: also not a fan of straight up bo7 grand finals. too long. i suggest either bo5 reset or bo7 with 1 game advantage to winners finalist.

Personally I would argue for a 5 map pool of

Circuit Breaker, Tau Cross, New Bloody Ridge, Gladiator and Neo Jade.

That's a diverse map pool full of maps the players should already know and it gives you a 5 map pool finals/the ability to veto 2 maps to find the Bo3.

As much as I hate the qualifier map pool, I tend to agree with NonY and Draco...

Options kind of suck:

1) Keep terrible map pool

2) Replace the map pool with insufficient preparation time

I've been head admin of tournament section at PGTour.net and head admin of PGTour.net later on and I've never experienced map pool change after qualifiers - this is simply a thing you don't do, especially when you deal with 16k prize pool tournament.

There are 7 maps, only 3 widely known and 2 available on blizzard ladder - when most of the action happen. 4 new maps equals 12 matchups to learn within 10-12 days - with 0 availability of them on blizzard ladder - how you guys think it is possible to play 50 (at least) matches in each matchup on each map to prepare? People now play only ladder and those maps are not there.

I would suggest you dear organizers to limit numbers of maps to 5 (FS, Tau Cross, Outsider + Neo Jade, Circuit Breakers) and also final as BO7 is questionable - average game at this level is 25-30 minutes - final can take almost 4 hours - it is simply not responsible and boring for the audience and the players. It is not possible to play 3-4 hours with full focus when prize is 5k$.

To be fair (to the Bo7), part of tournament success is also endurance. If you look to other esports for comparison, dota 2 for instance is 30+ minutes and the LB team at TI has to play a Bo3 followed by a Bo5. Sure, the game doesn't require as much constant clicking and focus, but it does require a certain spontaneous quickness and mental discipline both of which tend to fade off during a long match.

The main argument against a Bo7 shouldn't be the length, but the comeback potential. It's far lower than a Bo5 and the better player is far more likely to win... Making it generally less exciting to watch.

Scientifically that's actually the max amount of time you can have full focus

Yeah, you are very right my friend, but this is two day event. Day one is group play, day two is de bracket I suppose, so before that there will couple hours of intense play anyway ;-)
