The reason why terrans started to do this is because it's relatively save. At this point, zergs don't have the economy yet to produce units en masse so terrans are fine defending chokes with mines and a few units. Zergs that really decide to attack would basically be all-in because they would have to cut their economy immensly. So much that they would most definitely lose in the end game if they don't kill the terran right away or at least kill of their expansions.
I get what you mean but I feel there is a good window to stop T from expanding to another main by not going all-in. A defiler + lings + some lurkers could do some decent damage. And maybe some hydras to clear mines on the way. I feel that is the key to countering mech, if T sets up 5 base with no contest its just a downhill battle from there.

Not really, Mind didn't notice until the hydras were all over his tanks, if he noticed earlier he could have pulled them back, game would be very different.
If Zero had attacked 10 sec earlier he would have met tanks and rines grouped at the nat. Since ZerO didn't purposely wait for these units to move to attack then it was luck. It's totally part of the game though, and I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game.
