Can't they just play on fish, they already play some of the games against koreans on fish. VS is a mess to install, it installs a ton of bloatware, and the interface is just awful (I read Chinese btw).

I get it.
But most of the chinese players play on vs server (only a few like fengzi zhanhun jaystar play on fish) ,and most players in china lag a lot on fish when at 19:00-23:00CST ( the main time when c-osl play)
T_T
vs = bad , but it have to .....
by the way, rar patch is better than the install-version of vs . less of bloatware.
|
Thank you for bringing the tourny to attention here!
Looking forward to seeing some stream/vod games, is there already a schedule/time when games will be played or still coming?

您好,s_k_911.
Dingdang is wanting me to spread the competition more and confirm the foreign players(their game skills, fish rank, or any accomplishments) who are willing to participate.
I would like to say on here is that players should also contact me to provide their background information. If you don't, Dingdang will come and ask me to confirm the players. IF I don't know the player, cannot give the information about the player to Dingdang, then you might have disadvantage to register for the competition.

Very cool to hear the Chinese community organizing these leagues. I tried reading through the http://bbs.plu.cn/thread-5595410-1-1.html page, but didn't quite understand the qualifying process? Something about 72 players and seeding...

This is like the one and only global tournament for broodwar, so cool and prize pool pretty good. Good luck with this tournament, China rules!

What do you mean exactly? I guess you could pay for a VPN to get a Chinese IP, but I really doubt it's worth it.

but I really doubt it's worth it. what do you mean exactly? not help too lag ? or?. they said can be taken smaller amount

Well sorry if I wasn't specific enough. For most it would not be worth spending $5~10 a month for a VPN to only partially alleviate the lag, but since you are Sziky and actually have a great shot at making a lot of money in this tournament, that's something you may want to try. Don't have too high expectations though. I currently have a VPN service, PM me your Skype so I can let you try it and see if it helps.

I'll probably play C-OSL, i tested lag it was ok.
E: Well nvm it's weird with some of them it's perfect on low latency even with 3 players in game and with some it's horrible with 2 players :e

I was in fOr clan with dingdang and the same problems happened with me so I decided no to play in STL T_T, It's very unfortunate because they have good competitions and lots of players.

Thought you were in The. Because I never heard about you in FoR..TeaM group chat. I'm pretty sure Dingdang was in The.

I see that China players have a handicap in having expros being forced to offrace for half of their matches against them, but what about the 3 foreigners against expros? They have same advantage?
|
Is it too late to sign up? I would like to play in it and did some lag testing and it is seems to work. I already contacted dingdang prior to lag testing, but I wasn't able to reach him since. I can't use QQ either because they want to validate a new account via sms and that doesn't work.

the next round of BO3 elimination will include 19 chinese players who have occupied 9-32 position during the previous COSL, in addition to the 29 who have advanced from the previous preliminary round. the 1-8 position in last season COSL are already assured of their place in the ro32 and do not have to play.
The BO3 elimination round will have 24 groups of 2 players each, ie. the 19 players from the previous COSL+ the 5korean seeds who have advanced will be pitted against the remaining 24 players respectively. however since guemchi has been eliminated, its not yet confirmed who will take the korean seed slot...
winners of the each BO3 group will advance to the round of 32.
the map for this BO3 elimination round will all be STL_Soul_of_Fighter_1.3
the draw to determine the BO3 round will apparently be broadcast live on 9th Dec, 2000CST.
the BO3 elimination round will begin between 11th Dec-21th Dec. Within this period 6-8 days will be allocated for live streaming of matches, with 3-4 BO3 matches streamed per day. All participants must strictly adhere to the competition schedule given. More details regarding this will be confirmed right after the draw today.

Donghai should have won game one as well to be honest.
Also, they have this rule where if you are a Korean semi pro, you have to off race in alternating games, which is why you see Koreans dropping games randomly.

If there's anywhere I can watch our heroes, that would be awesome. Trutacz, will you be streaming your games? If so, setting the event on the TL calendar could be good so that people know when to catch the action.

If they're going to stream fpvs on afreeca we might as well get that on the calendar. Any chance you could submit an event(s)? And just pm me or post here if anything changes..?
|
Ekhmm, I will not stream my games, due to the lags with chinese players. I mean there is most likely going to be less or bigger lag it depends on... actually i don't know on what. Sometimes it sucks really hard and the other day the latency is better than on iccup. But, maybe my games will be streamed

yeah, that would be good, but we still need the exact dates in order to do so. KXCD is trying to find out, how restreaming from http://kan.games.sina.com.cn/u/chinaosl can be achieved i think.

I'm making a wiki page for this tournament. For the Korean players, how many games do they have to offrace for a Bo5? Also, is the title sponsor dingdang or South Clan (something like that), or is there no title sponsor?
|
"This particular rule states that whenever a Korean ex-pro meets any Chinese amateur during the event, the Korean must use his off-race during the 2nd game of a Best of 3, the 2nd and 4th game of a Best of 5 and the 2nd,4th and 6th game of a Best of 7."
from dingdang's interview published in TL not too long ago.

is there a wiki page? I am just looking for results. Wonder if scan can beat Modesty

Group e
First match was scan vs modesty. Modesty won 2:0
2nd was cainiao vs DJ_evan. Cainiao wins 2:1
Modesty won winners match over cainiao 1:0 to advance to cosl ro16
Scan beat DJ_evan 1:0 in losers match to to go to final round. note there was no significant lag reported during this match, scan vs a chinese
on the final round of cainiao vs scan there was plenty of lag experienced by all parties. Dingdang determined that it was from scan's end. after about an hour of trying scan was disqualified and eliminated as he could not solve the lag problem.
final round was thus cainiao vs dj, dj won 2:1 to advance.

Infrastructural work on such a grand scale takes a long time. Imagine if instead of having two or three major metropolitan areas to make coverage for in one country you had like 50. Also Chinese government firewalls and server locations.
|
updated match post above. missed out some details and final results.
i dont think you should blame the organizers (ie.dingdang) for internet infrastructure/connections, its not really in their control. If you want blame the china telecoms for prioritising cost cutting measure and profit maximising over improving infrastructure and routing in their country

Sziky, it would be a logistical nightmare if players could not adhere to the schedule given the number of players and countries involved, especially since the event is broadcast live.

There really aren't that many countries involved, also postponing by an hour isn't exactly a logistical nightmare.
|
lol all this reminds me of Gambit Cup/Nation wars.... The organiser did apologise to everyone and particularly cainiao who felt that he should have qualified instead and had agreed to pay an additional 120 USD to increase the prize pool of the competition...
Because... Scan won vs Evan (In a laggy game but they counted it) Then Scan played vs Cainiao (Laggy game that was not counted) Based on that cainiao thought he should advance but instead they asked Evan and Cainiao to play a BO3 instead which he lost...
Some net citizens were also sad to see scan go....
Hope the rest of the games with foreigners won't be complicated by lag but im not really optimistic..

If you need a hand, plenty of helpful folks on the IRC channel: Liquipedia @ Quakenet

Congratulations Sziky!
DarkNetHunter, what I have is here, work in progress. I haven't had time to do much work on it beyond the initial beginning but I'll do some today. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/2014-2015_C-OSL_5
EDIT Can anyone confirm that the Korean player, Sc_ArtTerran, is 승곤류? On the Chinese website it is written as Seung Kohn Ryoo.

You can "duplicate" anyone's work on Liquipedia. Like, in the sense of just copy/paste an existing article and change it. That's one of the best ways to start as first time editor. You only should not take an article, post it somewhere else (e.g. as own blog on wordpress) and then claim it was your work alone.

Making some progress formatting stuff on 2014-2015 C-OSL 5, but still lacking most results
Maybe we can post on SCNTV's BBS to get some help? Their message board system is really messy, so they may even prefer the LP page for organizing things. s_k_911?

Modesty 2:0 Scan dj_evan 1:2 cainiao winners match: modesty 1:0 cainiao losers match: dj_evan 0:1 Scan final match: dj_evan 2 cainiao
dj_evan was replaced on final match even though he lost to me on losers match. Some of my chinese fans said that dingdang has some prejudice against me in my group chat. He blamed himself during the match of movie vs savior bo5 saying "i'm sorry, china net is bad. i'm really sorry." However, he talks like "this is your lag, your internet is slow" to me(Even when I was playing in Korea, he still talks that way).
Anyways, good luck to the rest of the survivors.

with the end of ro32 ro16 is confirmed
A: Zhanhun(P),Jedi (Z),mihu(T), Sziky(Z)
B: zdy(Z),Zero(Z),guoqian(P),Movie(P)
C: Modesty(Z),SC_chaoshen (P),AP(P),FJ (pvt;tvz;zvp)
D: DJ_evan (P),Helios (T),fengzi (Z),Pure (P)
date schedule not confirmed yet ro16 competition format same as ro32 :
taking group A :A1 A2 A3 A4 A1 v A2 (bo3) A3 v A4 (bo3) winner of A1A2 v winner of A3A4 ->winner progress to RO8 (bo1) loser of A1A2 v loser of A3A4 (bo1) loser of winner's match v winner of loser's match -> winner progress to RO8 (bo3)
sziky dodged koreans but will be facing some of the best china players. (No lag hopefully) Good luck!

its true that they are among the best china players but
zhanhun kinda inconsistent
for jedi its zvz so anything can happen tho sziky zvz seem very solid with strong unit control from when i see his play in cosl
apparently mihu is better in TvP (he won shuttle 4-1 before). TvZ not so much. given sziky v scan many times he should have much experience going into this game.
so as long as lag does not have its way, sziky has a big chance to advance.
|
No lagg = Sziky top 3 jjang ~
|
Sziky has a very advantageous group draw, if he practices hard and the VPN works to reduce lag then I'm sure he can make it to the ro8. Anyone beating the ex-pros for a top3 finish is unlikely though.

I think Dingdang will say "sziky u lag u out" today. I am not wishing to sziky to get DQed. From my own experience, Mihu's Internet is not great. I had a lot of trouble with him in the past in VS server.
Good luck in Ro16 today. It might be tough group for you because of the lag issue.

Given how 2 people have already been DQ for "lag", it won't reflect well for the Chinese scene if sziky is DQ for same reason as well.
I think it would be more fair if the foreigner vs chinese match is played on a more neutral venue where the connection is even for both parties (iccup or fish). But first and foremost its their own competition after all, so they have the only say on the rules.

I'm not sure how VS differs from iccup or fish with its VPN magic and whatnot, but the key problem here is the Chinese internet itself, and that is outside of anyone's control. If sziky is DQ'd due to lag, the organizers will see inviting foreigners as a failed attempt, and will simple cease to do so in the future.
My understanding is that, the server matters very little, because it only links the clients together, and the connection is established directly between the clients without needing to go through the server (if someone knows for sure, let me know if this is incorrect).
|
what about having a "neutral" observer to host the game? someone based in korea/outside of china maybe.
i mean if theres no other option theres no incentive for foreigners to join anymore. there are already people like scan that shell out cash for VPN to connect and still get DQ for "lag"? like really
EDIT: oh and btw, i recall a COSL showmatch cup between 2 koreans (Pure and Zero i think?). Was played on VS intially and there was lag for both parties until Dingdang switched to fish server for regame, and the game was much smoother then
so the server does matter when it comes to connections.

Can't really say for VPN, haven't tried it. Servers really don't matter though, at least FISH/ICCup and if you talk about actually playing, since it's p2p once you left the lobby from what I understand. The launchers might be important though, since LanLat is required and needs a plug-in.
Other than that, I wouldn't talk so bad about the Chinese scene after all. It's probably difficult enough to manage a large league without trying to find tech fixes and other work arounds for foreigners as new side project. Hence, it's reasonable to outsource these things to the players directly, as much as it sucks for them. Also, "we" did similar things to "the Chinese" in earlier events - I remember some Nation Wars / Clan Leagues not too long ago, for which Chinese players were left out on purpose due to lag issues. Defiler excluded some of the Korean FISH Anons for a reason as well - they're not part of our scene and they never tried to really have contact with us, unless money was involved.
See it as first steps. Maybe in the future it gets better if all parties involved work on it in between ongoing seasons. During an event last second fixes are just not doable.
|
Hey submit event in the calender

|
Sziky was supply block at 35for a bit before corsair goes out? And also at around 100 even though zhanhun was not very active with corsairs The scourges suicide to an archon was also painful to watch
|
Some intense action happening on the final game of final set!
+ Show Spoiler + Sziky advances! Question is now if 2nd Place of Group A plays against first place of Group B or first place of Group C or D. If Sziky can dodge the Korean protosses and get into favourable ZvZs he has a chance at getting into ro4!
|
Just look at the predictions made by scan for ro8, which would be same for me. Tough opponents everywhere, although I think as long as you don't meet movie there's still a chance
Anyway congrats for advancing!
|
Sometimes he becomes very stubborn and not letting players to switch to fish server because some Chinese players do not know how to get into fish server and dingdang will keep repeating same words, "i think VS better, fish lag" There should be a VOD of him saying like that to me.

A lot of speculation from Chinese netizens over this Some say he had to sleep as he had work at 5am, so he didnt want to play for long Others say its an attitude/mental problem, that he doesnt really have a competitive streak in him and play mostly for kicks, noting it wasn't the first time he done this, how he prefers playing the "easier" VS server over practicing on fish etc.

When i asked Dingdang in my interview about this, he replied he wasn't aware the same rule should apply to foreigners too. He mentioned he will consider to change it for future C-OSL'S. So, if im not gravely mistaken, Pro's don't have to play offrace vs Sziky. Obviously that renders competition a bit unfair, but what can you do.

Jaystar has a decent understanding of the late game, but his execution is so terrible and that usually gets him killed or puts him at a big disadvantage during the mid game.

There are so many Chinese Protoss that probably they simply don't get many games against skilled Zerg players.

Hwaiting! Sziky no1 zvz player outside korea! You own the whole globe so what can stop you from beating one korean.

why does dingdang not put up exact results ever
Ro4 confirmed: 1. Jxsa_zhanhun(P) vs The_fj(PvT,ZvP,TvZ) 2. zero(Z) vs Sc_fengzi(Z) 3. Modesty(Z) vs Sziky(Z) 4. Pure(P) vs Sc_Movie(P)
schedule not confirmed

my guess:
zhanhun fengzi (because zero has to offrace twice, fengzi really only needs to win 1/3 ZvZs) modesty movie

Predictions:
Winner: Zhanhun The racepicker performed really well but faces the sternest test in China's number 1 toss
Winner: Sziky Even though Modesty was known as a ZvZ sniper back in the day, his last competitive ZvZ was 6 months ago where he lost tragically to both Zero and Killer and like most zergs i doubt he practiced much of the matchup recently. Out of like 8 ZvZ sets, Sziky did not lose in any single ZvZ set this competition and has shown solid impressive control and game sense in those matches. I think it can go either way but i hope Sziky prevails.
Winner: Fengzi Zero is forced to offrace in the 2nd and 4th set due to the offrace rule which applies for koreans when facing chinese players. Koreans have dropped almost all of their offrace games against random chinese players this competition so fengzi should easily win the 2nd and 4th set. This means zero needs to win 3-0, while fengzi only needs to win 1 ZvZ set to advance, which is not a very tough job for China's best zerg hopefully.
Winner: Pure Movie is not performing well in the televised SSL/KSL matches (5 loss streak) and its known even among the other expros that he is not practicing as much as he should these days. Pure doesnt have a hot streak either but in a PvP he should have a good chance to pull off a shock win (in the chinese fans eyes, sorry ^^) over Movie

fengzi can go overpool in both games and still beat a BBS or 14cc zero. unlike scan their offrace is weak, do you think Fengzi will not play safe when going against such

I dont understand your logic, how can you compare amateur with active progamer? And so how if sziky win the amateur level modesty, makes others who beat active progamers look like a bunch of noobs?

Yeah the strict scheduling was definitely not in your favour, but good work getting into ro8 and you'll do even better next time Sziky!
|
'next time " future " ya only disappointing if here good league not enough that I sick i need play pro. and no chance one day later play. but if not sick i work and same situation . this mounth a lot was for nothing. so i stop bw and if here better any maybe back but not that again same. bb
|
don't you get like 140 $ for 5-8th place? Or did I read the post wrong?
|
Yes that's correct gecko, so Sziky you are getting something if not as much as you could hope for!

Well I hope you'll participate in other events if not in the C-OSL since there seemed to be a very inflexible attitude about playing the games for this event. I don't think this month was a lot for nothing though, you have probably been playing better broodwar than ever before and you defeated a lot of very good players!
|
it is very nice to see foreigners are trying to join chinese events. i think in the current state of bw, it is best for all sides(chinese, foreigners and korean) to join hands and strengthen the bw scene i tried to bring chinese players into the foreign scene before by introducing them in nation wars and gc3 but i failed at last due to the lag issue
hope this time everything goes well. gg, bw striving!
edit:a brief supplement: last time heroes, the.wk, jaystar, caicai did participated in nation wars/gc3 but some of them had very serious lag problems with foreigners and eventually chinese players had to be DQed.

really good games between zero and fengzi actually
zero's T is actually pretty good, unlike Movie lol
currently Fengzi is up 2 : 1 (Fengzi won a zvz), and now Fengzi vs Zero zvt
|
Zero going for showmanship hive and devourer in zvz which end up costing him the game (and series)
And his offrace looks kinda cringe worthy too, he has the mechanics but has bad tactics/decision, doing little harass that just fail
|
zero out, fengzi moves on to face zhanhun

^^Ah, I didn't realize ZerO had to off race _twice_!
The organizers should really consider limiting the rule to one game per series or some lesser advantage... else why bother inviting Korean progamers if audiences don't get to see them perform at their best

There is only 1 organizer in this league. Some of people do not like his decision because of his prejudice.

I think both chinese players will prevail, the offrace rule is a little harsh
|
koreans have not won a single offrace game throughout the tourney AFAIK, and a lot of those are against lesser chinese players...the finals i feel may be a bit of a downer.
i think they should change the handicap to just 1 offrace game for any BoX match. the stronger chinese players like zhanhun/fengzi that reach the later stages should be competitively even with 1 offrace in a bo5/bo7.
|
Result for 3rd/4th place match + Show Spoiler +modesty 4:1 zhanhun, winning 2 offrace games. A bit disappointing play from zhanhun.

What I realize is that zerg/protoss users are not good at offrace as good as terran users playing offrace.

C-OSL is a Chinese tournament. Do you know what you are talking about and my nationality? I am the first Korean who won the Chinese tournament ever.. History cannot be changed.

What is wrong with these "foreign" type of fans? Time to get off from dick of foreign players.
Scan rules.
EDIT: I hope Scan will kick some ass with his appearance in next SSL or some mainstream korean tournament to show that he is real deal KOREAN. End of sub.
