Format
- Best of 5 Matches
- 6 Rounds
- 1 Day a Week
- 2 Rounds of Winners League
- Playoffs
- Final
General Rules
No hacking, cheating, matchfixing or anything else that would be generally frowned upon (including being insulting towards other players)
- Captains please PM me if your team wins alongside a link to the replays from that weeks matches (so I can send them on to streamers if they wish)
- Games must be played on Fish at LAN Latency
- Games will have a deadline of 1-2 weeks to get finished to allow for people in different timezones to play each other, but a new game will be put up each week
- Replays from the winning team must be in before the deadline set else the occur a map penalty.
- There is no set time for the games, so if you need a PP please speak to your captain to organise it for you
- If a player disconnects then both players can decide amongst themselves if they regame or not. If no decision is made then the game will go to the person who didn't DC.
STPL Specific Rules
PLEASE MAKE YOUR SMURF ACCOUNTS ON FISH
- Amongst your teams decide what your smurf account is going to be (e.g. KT_Flash) then on that account play every proleague game on it in order to hide your identity.
- Usernames amongst teams must be uniform. I understand KT_x may be taken so come up with another imaginative tag to go infront of your name.
- Your smurf names must be names of players who have played for the team you're on any time up to the Shinhan Bank Proleague 10-11 season
- Do NOT under any circumstances let slip to anyone not on your team who the other players on your team are
- Do NOT under any circumstances contact any other player asking what team they're on and what ID they're using
- The race you play must be the same race as the player you're deciding to Smurf as in the tournament (so no Z Flash's)
- just give your captains times you can play, they'll convine with the other captain and get back to you with a time you can both play so you can agree on
- Captains I expect you all to be in contact with each other, but don't give away the ID you'll be playing under.
- Submissions must be made a week in advance to the games initial start date.

This was something that crossed my mind once I forgot that iCCUP had the flag thing, but I was worried it'd be hard to get the usernames people wanted there for smurfing, but it's worth looking in to.

The only thing bad with Fish is that you can just do a /finger and it will show the players IP IIRC.

Someone brought up a problem that Fish don't like people smurfing as pro gamers and they ban the accounts, but as long as people don't go laddering and only play the games for this on it then I don't think we should encounter any problems. If we do we'll obviously have to move back over to iCCUP and deal with the flag thing.

Ok so I'm still trying to organise some pre season games and I have one team (mine) all ready to go. I do need a list of accounts sent to me either via PM or on Skype by the captains (not the player names, just the accounts they'll be playing) or we won't be able to sort anything out.
Any remaining captains that haven't sent me a skype for me to contact please can you do that quickly because that's going to be my main correspondance with you all once the tournament actually starts. I need to get this sorted ASAPly so we can get everything started!

This actually sounds like a pretty good idea, but i'm sure we can just speak with some Fish Police so it won't be an issue. I have a question, does playing on Fish affect the players connection / ping / latency when playing together? Like is it possible that we would lag more playing on Fish rather than on iCCup due to where the Fish server is Located?

i can play with 200 latency vs koreans on fish with no lag on #L2. ive played troposphere (russian player) on iccup with no lag but tried to play him on fish and had awful lag

The first lineups are out for our first pre season game. Start date is the 9th and if everyone could organise and get their games played by the 17th that'd be swell and send me your replays by the 18th that'd be swell.

I thought this might be a question that would arise and I'm not sure I explained it properly in the rules, but the idea is you have to speak to your teams captain and they'll sort it out for you (hopefully!) so just give your captains times you can play, they'll convine with the other captain and get back to you with a time you can both play so you can agree on (hopefully) then get playing.
I realise it's a rather convoluted system but as long as the captains are sensible then it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok so we're still missing two games from preseason days 1 and 2, but I'm going to go ahead and get this moving to allow more of the teams to play and get used to things. I'm hoping to do a cast with myself as an obs (I've got myself a cool overlay) and I believe Nina wants to cast it,, ideally it'd be cool to get three people to cast it together so if you're interested then let me know via PM.
I'll post up the new matchups as soon as I know what teams are avaliable to play.

You may as well tell people that minerals are being mined and that the objective of StarCraft is to 'gather resources and make units so you can eliminate all enemy buildings'. If one player is mining from three bases and has been doing so for longer than 30 seconds, and the second player's third base is just reaching completion, both players are most certainly NOT on fucking equal ground, so don't be one of those fuckers who goes "It's three base versus three base now, so it looks like the second player is making a comeback" and then the second player loses a shitting fuckton of dragoons to psi storms because the first player has speedlot/archon/templar versus mass goon and a reaver. Speedlots rape dragoons. Psi storm rapes dragoons, hard. Don't be all like "I THINK PLAYER TWO HAS AN ADVANTAGE HERE CUZ HE HAS 2-1 UPGRADEZ VERSUS ONLY 1-0" and then player two gets all his fucking shit raped by psi storms. 1. Fuck quantifying extremely negligible things like "and it looks like two dragoons just wandered off and died to 3 seige tanks!" in the midst of an intense dynamic late game. Not only is the fact that a few dragoons died late game completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but also naming the number of units involved is usually an absolutely benign fact. Maybe it is worth stating "drop-ship goes down to like 8 scourge" but something such as: "1 lurker dies to 7 marines!" (in a late game scenario) as if there is something notable about the fact that a single zerg lurker died to a number of marines that just happened to be 7 is absolutely pointless. Worse is when someone counts the exact number of turrets or cannons being build in late game (unless this number is out of the ordinary or actually note-able for some reason rule of thumb reason).
2. The phrase "goes down" should not be used to describe every thing that can happen in a game of Starcraft. This generally includes but is not limited to: units/buildings being destroyed, buildings being built, players or strategies being defeated , or the onset of an attack or strategy.
3. Please dear god don't literally make up facts about a strategy you don't understand. Please do not judge a strategy as good or bad when you do not understand it. Also avoid watching a game, assigning no bias to either player, and then once you see a player start to lose immediately backwards rationalizing the game as one player doing a shitty build order. Also avoid making intense illogical presumptions about players strategies from the get go to avoid this and then being "suprised" when the game plays out differently (much more prevalent in sc2 commentators or people wishing they were day[9]). If you find yourself doing this it means you are trying to cover up for lack of game knowledge.
4. Avoid mimicking the vocal tonality of Day[9] (especially common when explaining strategy), Artosis, Sayle, or any other known commentator. Don't steal Sayles catch phrases and inside jokes.
5. Passion with out substance = talk radio.
6. If a joke has been said before by another human being that does not mean that it is good to be used, it means that it does not need to be repeated again unless it is some how relevant. If it is repeated some credit should be given to its originator.
7. Saying something along the lines of: "Puppykiller is moving his vultures in to pick off probes even though there are a lot of dragoons in the natural of Kiante and with this Puppykiller is saying: 'I know I am going to be losing vultures here bro, but your gonna be losing a lot more probes and to me that's a trade I am willing to take.'" Bitch... You don't know shit about what I am thinking let alone a player who is actually good like Sziky. While it is OK to talk about what is going on from an objective standpoint, the next commentator who tries to add narrative to the game from my perspective and puts words in my mouth is getting fucking grudge-matched, even if what they are saying isn't strategically incorrect.

If someone says something is "Going Down", they just have to sing the entire song. As long as they do that, they can say stuff is going down left and right all willy-nilly. As for your third point, I generally agree but there are certain situations where one player will put themselves into a good position to win and not realize it because they are being dumb. For example, recently, I observed this one PvT where the Protoss guy kinda sucked. He went for a 1-base reaver build, and had a proxy robotics facility. So far, so good. Then, without doing ANY damage (The reaver killed absolutely nothing), the Protoss guy flew his shuttle right into a turret and lost it. The bad part for the Protoss guy was that he also double expanded, meaning he had almost no units, and the Terran player was on four factories. I was practically pleading with the Terran player to just fucking win the game, but instead, he just kind of inched his way to the front of his natural, and started making a CC inside of his main to slow-float it over to his third while he cautiously made his way over there. The whole situation made me die a little bit inside because the Protoss was able to build up a third-base economy without opposition and warped in a whole shitpile of gateways, so by the time the Terran player finally decided to push out, his army got overwhelmed, and the Protoss was miles ahead after that. I think in a situation like that, I could say that the Terran player will almost certainly win, but instead I had to facepalm because he LITERALLY took a spiked dildo and fucked himself in the butt. That's when I'm forced to backtrack; some idiot gets an opportunity and then blows it like a cheap hooker.

Just reading that story brought tears to my eye. I will say a prayer for the terran, that he might some day learn to punish the evil doings of space aliens.
He was probably trying to do "the flash build". I've heard that some sneaky protoss fake terran accounts on teamliquid and tell terrans that they need to do "the flash build" or "the stylish 5 fact" over and over again to learn how to place terran structures aligned with numbers. Apperntly learning a very rigid and fragile build order takes preference to learning to scout or adapt. /rant

I've put a lot of effort in to making all the graphics and gathering all the stuff I need, so hopefully you'll enjoy and like them as much as I have done making them.

Heavily based on the original, but because I'm not all that great at designing graphics especially not working with colours I had to go with a different colour scheme and take some creative liberties.
The layout is pretty much all exactly the same, just with an extra screen that proleague never used so I've got something to show while I'm trying to fix everything behind it. This is either going to go really well or be a complete disaster from my perspective haha. I've got so much on the stream UI to constantly chop and change.

In other news Preseason week 2 should start soon (waiting on more lineups, please either respond to your captains or captains wake up *situational*)
and secondly I've been working on a ghetto program to store the stats for the league as well as bring up overlays for me for when I'm streaming. It's not great as my Java isn't perfect and the UI looks like it's been run over by a train, but this is my progress so far.

To help with organization ive set up a temporary forum to allow players to keep their anonymity but also send PM's back and forth between them. http://w11.zetaboards.com/Fantasy_Proleague/index/ now its really just so that we can use the PM system, but ill update the forum with threads from here such as schedules LR threads and the signup thread. If captains would like subforums and for me to divide players into their own section so they may use the forum for team discussion i have created a poll in the announcement thread. Just to be clear I don't want to drive people away from teamliquid, for I myself will still be using this site, but just a place to go so that this league has an easier time setting up meetings rather than going through the captains.

Sorry for double posting, but we really need to get this moving and in order for that to happen I need people to cooperate with both me and their captains.

I also need a new captain from STX_Soul because Ty2 has just quit and given up so if someone could step up that'd be super. I'm somewhat confused how we went from getting all the week 1 games played in a single week to this, but I'd like to get it across that I really don't want this to fail and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure it doesn't, so please cooperate with me on this.

The time limit for week 2 to be played is Friday 12th of September 11:59PMBST.
Secondly there's a new rule from this week leading up to Week 3, the final week of preseason which will be starting on:
Saturday 13th of September at 19:00 GMT (+00:00).
PPs will still be allowed, but if you can I want you to all try and play as quickly as possible and I will set up a channel, or get someone to set up a channel on fish called op STPL for anyone to go on and play at that time. If you cannot play at that time I expect to see posts on here organising it between yourselves and you will have exactly 1 week to play your games. Any longer and I'll have to give a walkover to whoever I see making an effort trying to play. If both of you are actively trying but timezones are still an issue we'll decide on a case by case basis, but hopefully that won't be a problem.
The deadline for week 3 will be Saturday 20th of September at 10:59 GMT (+00:00) in which the games will be casted the day after.
Thankyou for your continued cooperation and sorry it's been so hard to sort. Please bug the rest of your team to sign up!

I've just got back from taking a Cisco CCNA exam which I failed so I haven't been able to be on. I did say that if people couldn't make it they should do a PP over the forum, but as people have gone back to college/school/university it's been increasingly frustrating for the captains of the teams to get in contact with anyone. I apologise profusely despite not doing anything wrong myself.
For now I want 16 people to message me on the STPL forum via PM on TVGN_Qikz to a) prove you're active and b) show that you actually want to play and I'll run an OSL style league but under the accounts you're already playing. If it's more than 16 great, we'll work with that, but like myself I'm guessing the other people who were looking forward to playing are getting somewhat fed up, so please if you want to play actively then sign up there. If you want to play and you haven't been in contact with your teams or captain, contact them first and let them know you're available.

A OSL round robin is just going to complicate the shit out of any scheduling issues. A basic bracket tournament is eminently doable though.

By OSL style I just meant in terms of theming. I've still only got 4 people though so I guess I might just have to wait for a while and hope all the people that were active before magically reawaken theirselves otherwise I'll have to give up on this and try it again some other time.
I'm guessing with everyone going back to school/college/uni and uni exams being soon that everyones mostly busy. I apologise to anyone who's actually active right now and I know it's not my fault, but I can understand that it's probably frustrating for you too.

It's not dead, but there's nothing I can do until people start getting active again. I'm going to rerun signups in about 2 weeks to get everyone who wants to still play into fewer, bigger teams and we'll start this up again. Hopefully Uni exams will be over by then (I've got two over the next two days) and everyone will be a bit more active now they're settled in school/uni/college again.
Hopefully people'll still be interested!
