TOURNAMENT COMPLETED!!

Find the bracket here:
http://challonge.com/sgsddminusopen1

First Place: Ecrilon
Second Place: sabas123

CLOSING COMMENTS:
On October 24 2011 05:52 duncan.mc wrote:
Great tournament everyone! I have a few closing comments:

First, thanks to all the participants who came out and had fun. I definitely enjoyed watching you guys. Congrats to Ecrilon for the win and to sabas123 for his great run to the finals. We hope to see y'all next time!

Secondly, thanks to the casters and streamers - L_Master, TheNessman, and Nazza - y'all were imperative for making this a success 'cause you let us all watch and enjoy the games together.

Also, big shoutout to Sayle and the organizers of the GosuCup. I didn't realize the GC started this Sunday or a I wouldn't have scheduled at the same time. I will definitely be more aware of that in the future (I had to have y'alls stream open at the same time to watch both).

Lastly, as this was the first tournament we held, there were definitely growing pains. There were moments of clear unprofessionalism and they will be addressed for future tournaments. This includes absolutely NO chatting in game by any observers, and having /dnd on for the participants. It was something that should've been included in the rules, but wasn't. That falls on me as the organizer and I apologize for that.

All in all, I think it went well and it's definitely something we can build on. Be sure to give me any feedback you have about the tourney as I want to take it into consideration for future D/D- tourneys or D+/C- tourneys.

Thanks for watching!

Hey everyone! Clan sGs is putting together a low level open tournament as a fun community event. When BW was more popular many of us enjoyed lan tournament parties in college dorms or home living rooms. Most of us weren't ever any good, but we had fun hanging out and playing. This is what we want to bring back to our now much smaller community.

FORMAT (MAP UPDATE!):
32 player tournament
Single Elimination
RO32 - Semifinals: Bo1, Finals: Bo3
RO32: Python
RO16: Circuit Breaker
RO8: Fighting Spirit
Semifinals: Grand Line
Finals: Bloody Ridge (then loser picks choice of any previous map unless already played in this series)

WHO:
As the title says, this tournament is for D/D- players only.

WHERE:
ICCUP channel "op sGs"

WHEN:
Sunday, October 23, 2011. 1900 CEST (1300 EDT).
Please check in to the designated channel 15 minutes prior to event start time.

HOW TO SIGN UP:
Reply to this topic with the following format to sign up:

ICCUP name:
Rank:
Race: (Just so people have an idea what they're about to play against)

Sign ups are only through TL at this time to help prevent smurfing. You do NOT have to be a member of sGs to sign up. The only requirements are that you'll be available to play the whole tourney if necessary and that you have a MAX rank of D/D-. If you're actually a C+ player but your account just happens to be at D right now, please don't sign up.

HOW TO WATCH:
L_Master will be streaming this event. His stream can be found here:
http://www.twitch.tv/l_master

Nazza streaming as well:
http://www.twitch.tv/nazza131

SIGNED UP:
Note: These are not final yet as I still need to sift out players that may be too highly ranked.
Also, though we have more than 16 entries, please continue to sign up if interested. Not everyone always shows up at event time, plus we may expand the tournament by one round if needed.

And that's it! We know it's a fairly short notice but it's not intended to be an epic event. It's intended to be short, sweet, and fun. Depending on feedback from viewers/participants, we may create open tourneys for other ranks such as D+/C-.
The 16 player limit is not set in stone, it is flexible based on how much interest we have.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
Participants need to read this!!!
---
There WILL be one extra round added because of the number of entries. We're hard-capping the tourney at 32 though. Entries above 32 are on the waitlist and will play if the full 32 doesn't show up (likely). The map to be added is Grand Line. See the order of maps in FORMAT above.
---
To decrease the chance that smurfs make it through, I'm not opening the tourney up on ICCup's tournament system (because I don't know a way, if any, that I can create the participant list myself). Check in is 15 minutes prior to the start of the event. If you come earlier that would be appreciated. Show up to channel "op sGs" on ICCup and look for me, sGs.Smile, to let me know you're ready. I'm creating the bracket on a website and will post the link in this OP at tourney start time. Use it to know who you play.
---
THE CUTOFF FOR CHECK IN IS AT THE TOURNEY START TIME as that is when I will publish the bracket to begin games.
---
I'll be available in the "op sGs" throughout the tourney. After each game, tell me the result and I'll update the bracket immediately.
---
Your ICCup ID must match EXACTLY the ICCup ID you've written in this thread or I won't accept it.
---
All map versions used are from ICCup's latest mappack v2.0. Found here.

maybe let these bad players not play on old maps that are not suited for newer playing styles which they probably would be practicing.
So especially maps like TauCross should not be used, imo. Python is questionable enough, but for no reason many new people still play it.

Yeah, I'd be down for a change to something like Circuit Breaker or Match Point. I'd also support a Python -> Destination Map change

We can definitely change maps if desired. When I chose maps I wasn't thinking so much in a competitive sense, more about what are simple and popular maps that people are familiar with.

Definitely like the idea of putting in one or two newer maps, especially in favor of maps like tau/HBR. I doubt anybody that's really new knows Tau/HBR that well anyways, and playing on newer maps seems like a better idea to me.

Keeping python and FS is good since everybody plays though and tends to be the maps newer players are most familiar with.

I would ask that you first play some games on ICCUP and see where you stack up. If you can get me a more definite feeling of where you are, that would be awesome.

I hit D+ once but I can't hang with other D+. I'd fall back to D easily if I played more ladder games (I have 0% win rate against D+ players that played against me in melee games).
