Man what do you expect ? that everybody laughs at you cause you got owned by Xellos ? Imo it was absolutely clear from the very beginning that no non-korean had a chance to give xellos a real competition. Xellos is playing Tournaments with much higher skill than WCg every week ! So its just normal the he onws everybody @wcg except Midas and Foru "I don't think anyone is going to fault you for being nervous vs Xellos" i second that. And its not so important who got #3 or #4 or anything except #1 and #2 you played a great tournament and the Koreans owned. thats all about it

Heh ,i think this was the WCG which i entered with least expectations and least training.Only thing was I was constantly reminding my fellow non-koreans at the WCG that Im the best TvT player outside Korea and Im quite confident at that(I think the 3 russians are the other good TvT players).I got incredible luck this year.If I had it 2002 or 2003 where I was much better in comparison with the rest I could have played final.(especially 2003 ,where just getting out of the group 2nd was a bracket easier than this year). Im actually a bit surprised I played TvZ that good vs RRB, who raped Elky and Veg.I thought I have no chance in a normal game, since i hadnt played TvZ in like a month ,thinking i wont need it.But after failing my unorthodox strat on kohral(again timing is everything) I tried playing solid and raped him. ![]() P.S. Im sure I could have done much better in the semifinal If i had managed to get my front expo running on Kohral or played Gorky(you start in midgame there, its just strategy) or Martian(i had an incredible strat).I wasnt confident at Dahlia though.I guess thats why the koreans were choosing Dahlia for TvT.Its easier to play vs amateurs on it since its mostly timing and they suck at it.If you contain, you win.

I tried to be that dedicated to bw, and let me tell you, after about 3 days of 15 games a day, I have to take a week off because it's just too mentally draining. If you think that the ability to be that dedicated to something isn't a special and unique ability (aka talent), there's something wrong with you. I'm not trying to start an arguement here, but I must say, I'm not quite sure you understand the nature of the word talent. You do a fair job defeating yourself when you say it's a unique ability, even though we're talking about a comparatively large group of people (Koreans). Willpower and determination, althought admirable characteristics, are not suitable subsitutes for talent. I would venture that their ability to practice to much is more a product of their environment than any innate ability. Korean culture is far more conducive to starcraft players than any other in the world, so it's no large wonder that the dedication and relentless drive they bring to their practicing is singular. Talent should be a word reserved for those who have shown ability not through sheer repetition but by seemingly divine will. I could practice Starcraft every day for the next 30 years, and I would be no more talented than I am now. I would be more technically proficient, but my innate, inborn ability would not have changed. That is the nature of talent. I am in no way saying that anyone in particular is untalented, but that talent should be measured the right way.

I guess the saying is true -genius is 30% talant, 70% practice.

Like for example, is there a bonus for getting out of groups, or for getting to quarters, or whatever? Nah ,this is BS.You get a prize ,worth 1000$ for 4th place ,though and 700 for top8.Not sure if its the exact sum though.

If you are willing to call all of the first things talent, I don't see why the last thing shouldn't be a talent too. It's not as though there aren't Korean progamers who just practice harder and are more dedicated than others. Why not say they have their own unique talent as well? It's really just semantics, but I feel like when you are calling all the other things a talent, but not determination and will power, you are cheapening and disrespecting that aspect of being a great player. I've played provincial level sports, and believe me when I say that any coach I've ever had would trade in every exceptionally talented player for an exceptionally hardworking and determined player any day of the week.

As i started starcraft the first site i got in contact with was starcraftgamers.com. And the first threads i got in contact with have been massive flame threads vs Fisheye. (this was after he won vs elky in WCG 2003) the majority of the swedish broodwar comunity said that fisheye was a lucky noob. After Fisheye got #2 nd in WCG 2003 it seemed that the whole starcraftgamers.com community(not only swedish people) considererd Fisheye an unskilled bastard with a very lucky draw. but i think nothing similar will happen to beast
