He said he doubts he can play at 100% vs Xellos because he is too excited after his last victory and he's on 3 redbulls. I lied out of my ass that I think he has done enough and it doesn't matter what he does next ![]()

They're not showing too much in the way of respect to Beast right now. But lots of enthusiastic energy for the midas v androide match.

Androide really is looking in prime shape and I think it's possible he could really turn up the upset. I'm just hoping for some games. I bet you a bunch of players will get offers to go to korea ;D.

BTW, Grrrrr elected to use Terran vs Hellghost on Gorky Island last year. I'm sure he did that because he thought it was a perfectly balanced map that toss would be able to compete on with no difficulties, right?

There hasn't been much, if any, successful cheesing this year, because all the good players are just too familiar with the maps by now for it to work. Last year, people didn't really the know the maps too well. The only people who I could see had really studied the maps were Grrrrr and Fisheye, because they had a set plan for every situation, which they executed to perfection every time. That's how they rode it to the top. BTW, Grrrrr elected to use Terran vs Hellghost on Gorky Island last year. I am pretty sure you werent complaining about the maps when grrr got 3rd.

Give him a bit more experience, maybe an expert commentator, and he'll be great. I agree. He's no expert by any means, but he does a good job conveying what's going on - which is the essence of what he needs to be doing anyway. He also has a lot of passion. And he needs help in terms of getting another color commentator in there. Doing it all alone is extremely gruelling. GJ WackStevens.

No. He means Koreans = non-Koreans when it comes to pure talent. But, Koreans practice a lot more - which is probably true, given the pro gaming system they have in place. The discussion (either way) is useless. Who cares who has more "talent" (however that may be defined) anyway? It's the results that count.

chin up mate! I was damn happy with Grrrr's performance last year, you should be happy for Beast and proud of what he's accomplished, not saying shit like progamers don't deserve the respect they get in Korea and complaining that foreigners have it tough because of our culture. First game I went for 2 fac with armory and from what i scouted i thought he was doing some tank rush.I stopped my scvs once and i had to put 1 more scv so this allowed him to get his tank faster than mine and get it too close to my base.I went 1 fac tanks 1 fac gols ,but i also forgot a supply and this slowed me down a bit too.My plan was to prolly go a 2nd base after I siege 1 tank and move the rax there. But wtf,i thought i returned my rax but suddenly 2 gols come out of his facs and start shooting at the already half hp rax.So i lost my rax ,he had his and I knew my tanks were 8 range vs 12 range and i should change plan asap.I put 2 fac vulcs and was desprerately trying to prevent him from siegeing my tanks without vision on my side sacrificing scvs and moving my army. But my vulcs arrived too late and I had already lost like 2 tanks more and it was gg. 2nd game it was sooo simple.Ive timed my 2 fac gols to get 2 gols at my expo exactly at the time when the vultures get their mines.Well, i put a tank first ,expecting the same way of playing and canceled it like 10 secs later. My gols arrived like 10 secs later than his vulcs(or so i think, i havent seen the replay but thats what i saw with my rax) and I just gave up.I thought he would contain me and went for the port and side expo to try to stop his .But he didnt send even 1 tank to my base, he just defended and I already knew i had lost but continued playing just for the show.Timing is everything. I thought i wasnt nervous, but losing an scv in my base without even noticing is plain pathetic. I think i would have done much better in a longer game and mb in gorky or martian where he couldnt beat me with timing.I have a pretty strong game on Kohral usually ,too.See the games vs Artosis and Rif)Ex(who should be at Andro level prolly) and then laugh at me if you feel like. And yes ,im very lucky this year with the bracket. From the 3 years I feel i was in worse condition this one, and i still got so far.But I had such bad luck 2002 and 2003, that I guess youll forgive me.

The thing is, once you do something competitive for a job, where you are paid to be better than the next guy, it's just not realistic to expect people to not practice for it 24/7. I know you're no idiot and you know that perfectly well, so I guess you are just against pro-gaming in principle. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is sort of odd for someone with almost 1000 posts on a pro-gaming dedicated site =p

Man what do you expect ? that everybody laughs at you cause you got owned by Xellos ? Imo it was absolutely clear from the very beginning that no non-korean had a chance to give xellos a real competition. Xellos is playing Tournaments with much higher skill than WCg every week ! So its just normal the he onws everybody @wcg except Midas and Foru "I don't think anyone is going to fault you for being nervous vs Xellos" i second that. And its not so important who got #3 or #4 or anything except #1 and #2 you played a great tournament and the Koreans owned. thats all about it

Heh ,i think this was the WCG which i entered with least expectations and least training.Only thing was I was constantly reminding my fellow non-koreans at the WCG that Im the best TvT player outside Korea and Im quite confident at that(I think the 3 russians are the other good TvT players).I got incredible luck this year.If I had it 2002 or 2003 where I was much better in comparison with the rest I could have played final.(especially 2003 ,where just getting out of the group 2nd was a bracket easier than this year). Im actually a bit surprised I played TvZ that good vs RRB, who raped Elky and Veg.I thought I have no chance in a normal game, since i hadnt played TvZ in like a month ,thinking i wont need it.But after failing my unorthodox strat on kohral(again timing is everything) I tried playing solid and raped him. ![]() P.S. Im sure I could have done much better in the semifinal If i had managed to get my front expo running on Kohral or played Gorky(you start in midgame there, its just strategy) or Martian(i had an incredible strat).I wasnt confident at Dahlia though.I guess thats why the koreans were choosing Dahlia for TvT.Its easier to play vs amateurs on it since its mostly timing and they suck at it.If you contain, you win.

I tried to be that dedicated to bw, and let me tell you, after about 3 days of 15 games a day, I have to take a week off because it's just too mentally draining. If you think that the ability to be that dedicated to something isn't a special and unique ability (aka talent), there's something wrong with you. I'm not trying to start an arguement here, but I must say, I'm not quite sure you understand the nature of the word talent. You do a fair job defeating yourself when you say it's a unique ability, even though we're talking about a comparatively large group of people (Koreans). Willpower and determination, althought admirable characteristics, are not suitable subsitutes for talent. I would venture that their ability to practice to much is more a product of their environment than any innate ability. Korean culture is far more conducive to starcraft players than any other in the world, so it's no large wonder that the dedication and relentless drive they bring to their practicing is singular. Talent should be a word reserved for those who have shown ability not through sheer repetition but by seemingly divine will. I could practice Starcraft every day for the next 30 years, and I would be no more talented than I am now. I would be more technically proficient, but my innate, inborn ability would not have changed. That is the nature of talent. I am in no way saying that anyone in particular is untalented, but that talent should be measured the right way.

Nah ,this is BS.You get a prize ,worth 1000$ for 4th place ,though and 700 for top8.Not sure if its the exact sum though.

If you are willing to call all of the first things talent, I don't see why the last thing shouldn't be a talent too. It's not as though there aren't Korean progamers who just practice harder and are more dedicated than others. Why not say they have their own unique talent as well? It's really just semantics, but I feel like when you are calling all the other things a talent, but not determination and will power, you are cheapening and disrespecting that aspect of being a great player. I've played provincial level sports, and believe me when I say that any coach I've ever had would trade in every exceptionally talented player for an exceptionally hardworking and determined player any day of the week.

As i started starcraft the first site i got in contact with was starcraftgamers.com. And the first threads i got in contact with have been massive flame threads vs Fisheye. (this was after he won vs elky in WCG 2003) the majority of the swedish broodwar comunity said that fisheye was a lucky noob. After Fisheye got #2 nd in WCG 2003 it seemed that the whole starcraftgamers.com community(not only swedish people) considererd Fisheye an unskilled bastard with a very lucky draw. but i think nothing similar will happen to beast

When I played football and wrestled provincially, I was always one of the hardest working and most dedicated members on my respected teams. I was not very talented or physically gifted compared to many of the born athletes on my teams, but I held my own through the sheer force of will. Yet, I do not even compare to the amount of willpower and dedication and focus that Korean pro's have. I was willing to go the extra mile during practices, and give my 100% effort until I was puking on the fields, play hurt and never give up and all that jazz, but I only had to do that for a few hours every second day or so. When it comes to playing SC, I cannot force myself to put in the extra effort, even when I had damn good reasons and circumstances to do it in. Compared to the average joe on the street, I have way more heart and determination, but compared to the best of the best in SC, I'm sub par. I have practiced hard to place in tournies or join certain teams or represent my country or clan to the best of my ability in a number of competitions, but I can only maintain it for a week at the very most before I get completely turned off of SC. Even when there was money on the line, I was never able to force myself to practice for more than a few games every day for any period of time. I don't look at myself and say "wow, I must have a shitload of natural talent at this game because I can beat or compete with people who probably play way more than me." I look at myself and say "goddamn, I am never going to get anywhere with SC until I can get my shit together and start playing for real. I was at my computer for 10 straight hours tonight, but I only played 3 games of SC. What the fuck is wrong with me!!"

im saying that in order to have played 5x more games than yellow, boxer, etc you would have had to play 24 hours a day since starcraft beta i think you underestimate how much alot of these ppl have played until 7 months ago i had played consistently since starcraft came out(though not competitively until about 1 year after bw was released) i couldnt hold a candle to progamers but its only because A.)they still practiced more than me and B.)they had better training
