Initially, the reaver harass was successful enough. But fantasy had 3 bases on Kal's 2. BAD BAD BAD for the protoss. He really needed more, and that's what he tried. But in the end, STX was just left with a pile of broken reavers as they headed home, so close but still not quite.

Except that in proleague the amount of money a team has in its budget depends really on how much the corporate sponsor is willing to spend, not how much money they made in their business selling tickets, broadcast rights, merchandise, etc.? Only in the latter scenario does "the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer" make a sound explanation of what's going on. By assets, STX is actually a bigger corp than SK Telecom. + Show Spoiler +But while SK Telecom issues its own shares, it's also affiliated with SK Group which is larger. Plus I figure STX doesn't budget as much to their team as proleague mostly reaches individuals and their business is less consumer oriented than SK Telecom's.
Someone missed the point.

has STX even made PL finals? ever?
answering my own question: yes, sort of, back when they had playoffs for each round, this happened:
Oct 30th Final
P&C vs SouL 1: GoodFriend > Jju on Bifrost 3 2: Jju/Hwasin(Z/T) > NaDa/Silver(T/Z) on Mercury zero 3: NaDa > Yooi on Incubus 2004 4: Silver/Goodfriend(Z/T) > TheWind/CCoMa(rZ/Z) on Odin 5: Sir@Soni > Soo on Requiem P&C 4:1 SouL

You know, an SKT vs KT final is far better for eSports than a STX vs KT final would ever be. The turn out will be monstrously HUGE this year, knowing how strong the fanbases are for both of these powerhouses, while STX really pales in comparison. I'm pretty sure finals like Hite vs Khan had some of the worst showings in PL Finals history. Worse showings = less sponsors = death of SC. So actually SKT winning is better for eSports than STX winning.

the best possibly outcome to me would of been eSTRO making the playoffs and then winning it all. it doesnt get more mighty ducks than that.
plus I dont think "oh there are less fans at the finals" really means that pro SC will die lol. we already had OGN vs KHAN and esports went on as strong as ever...

Let's seed Flash and Jaedong to the finals of every single Starleague. Other gamers need not even play. They can just, like, be the audience or something.

"Figurehead" implies that they don't play well enough to deserve their wins.

Personally, I don't share your desire for a "Mighty Ducks" outcome (guess that's why I'm an SKT fan =/). Regardless of the "story", I just want to see some good BW games. And IMO, given the teams in their current states, SKT vs KT has the highest probability of producing good BW games.

In fact, those finals got enormous turnouts and unbelievable amounts of hype on TL and other sites (even despite the fiasco of the first one).

Ah...it's good to be a T1 fan. You mean, it's good to see things as they are in the world of professional Brood War, without any biases clouding one's judgement. Show nested quote +On July 16 2010 13:38 Zona wrote: Fantasy
You may not have realized it, but this past round, Jung Myung Hoon was the best terran and best player overall in proleague, with an 8-1 record, and in addition, he's qualified to the Ro16 of both individual leagues as well. While it's always debatable which player is currently strongest in skill, there's no debate as to who is currently most reliable, with the undisputed highest win percentage in proleague R5 (not counting those one game winners, of course). ... And Fantasy further ups his game during the playoffs (see: last year), with the legendary Terran Oov at his side as his coach and mentor. If there's any one player that's going to dominate these playoffs, it is Fantasy, not whoever else you might have had in mind. gee thanks for the information, Mr.Unofficial leader of SKT Fanclub.

The resources thrown into dual shuttle harass could have been used to supplement an attack on the very vulnerable 3rd which would have done a ton of damage at this point in the game and allowed Kal to catch up economically.
Yes he needed to cause more damage but dual shuttles this late in the game is a very high-risk and expensive way to try and cause damage, and it can fail really really hard like it did here.
