Not sure if a small topic like this belongs in the almighty Strat forum but I put some effort into this and it might be interesting to know for some people (I don't believe it's common knowledge?). Also I searched a bunch of terms in both the forum and Liquipedia but couldn't find a topic on this subject.
After trying to hop a vulture over the outside mineral lines on outsider and failing thrice I decided to look into how to get vultures over the mineral line. I tried several methods and the one below worked 100% of the time.
The setup
Step 1 Get the (1)vulture in place and hotkey it. Put it in the smallest niche in the line. You can get it close to the (3)key patch by right clicking it while having the vulture selected.
Step 2 Select your (2)SCV and have it mine from the (3)patch.
Step 3 Select your (1)vulture (hotkey) and right-click the (4)area behind the patch once, then right-click the (3)mineral patch once and then spam right-click the (4)area.
Hope this helps, cheers
I realise I haven't tried this with Dragoons as well but I'd reckon the same method would work.

How does selecting a mineral patch and spamming right click help your Vulture get over?

Sweet, just tried it, works like a charm. Cheers, mate!

Cute little guide although who didn't know this? ^o^ It's possible to do this with dragoons as well, almost any unit I would assume.

Liquipedia~! I suck so bad at glitching stuff over mineral lines !_! Only mannerpylon on 9LT vs depots can I do

It actually work if you just spam right click on the mineral patch as well from my experience.

so once upon a time i did this with lurkers on that harmony map or w/e
man did that work out well for me

What about mineral patches that don't have a -X X-X
pocket but something like -XX X--X

I vaguely remember watching that game (was a showmatch versus someone, I think -GosuGamers?).

it's a little harder but you can still do it as long as there's a gap
|
LR I recall you got rocked by a Korean after doing that... still, it was exciting to be like oh my god, is he really...?
Thanks for the guide, Pholon. I'm assuming it should work similarly with goons, because now I'll have to bug those buggers across in order to defend against these shenanigans.

Really? You click the patch itself? I never knew that.

I always right clicked the area across and hoped for the best. Thanks for this!

That will never work

The 'working out well' for me bit was facetious.
But it's a fun mechanic nevertheless :D

Yeah, you can spam click the patch too, if you're lucky it'll go over, but the click once click past hasn't failed me yet.

I've always just spammed past, never done past, patch, past.

But..but... spamming past just works 1/100 times

Thank you very much for this info. I never knew you had to click the mineral patch.

Ever wondered why it doesn't work most of the time?

I've always done burrow on top of each other, unburrow all at once, spam past + Show Spoiler +especially on Desti against FE Toss . Is it better worth it for a zerg to do this, or to burrow?

Oh "sliding" is what it's called now. Yer I'm not sure if this works on other maps as well, or using workers or using bigger/small units. I tried it just for Outsider using only the Vult + SCV since you see it happen in progames more now. If I can put together something more comprehensive and complete I'll put it in Liquipedia.
|
i always pressed stop than spam right click;;
|
would this somehow be viable on Neo Medusa where the temples are? except, instead of clicking the patch click on the temple then spam?
anyway thanks for the tip. i've been trying to learn outsider lately too
|
I've never gotten the glitch to work when I wanted it just seemed random to me. Clicking on the mineral as well I didn't now and know that I do I get it to work very consistently. always 1st or 2nd try
Thanks a bunch!
|
there are some situations where one right click past then hold pos then spam right click works better, thats the best way to get a vulture over the back mineral on desti.
|
Thanks Pholon for the mini-guide and IdrA for the tip. Also nice that you have a picture.
|
wow this works 100% of the time. and it works on any map that has a mineral patch "opening", including medusa and its temples.
|
If there is a enemy unit behind the minerals and you need to glitch thru (pretty much with anything), make sure you have your unit hold position before you glitch it over so it doesnt try and pursue and then get screwed with the pathing. This can come up frequently on outsider cause of all the events when you have to glitch thru under pressure to protect an expo or something of that sort.
|
after seeing so many fail attempts by koreans on live games I wonder if they know this^
...
Probably....

I also spent almost an hour trying to perfect mineral hopping on destination, and what Ilikestarcraft said is the best I've come up with. My success percentage was nowhere near 100% tho.. more like 40%.
|
I only have a problem with minerals that are facing downward. going up and to the sides I get it nearly 100% but for some reason when the minerals are below the dt it gets pushed up and away, and i only get it about 25%. anyone know how to get away from this.

Me n my bro are doing this now and it's nowhere near working. We're having succes with single click minerals - spam past for vults but DTs are very reluctant to hop these bastards.
|
Clicking past has ALWAYS worked for me.
|
I usually (1) send vult to min (2) select scv and vult (3) simultaneously spam min patch with both units (4) select just vult and spam move past. (5) move scv away before he picks up minerals.
Spamming the scv to mine resets its mining, so I have more time to move scv away from minerals. Otherwise he is spent for glitching.
Will have to try these variants.
|
I think this guide would make an awesome addition to Liquipedia or the Recommended Threads.

The problem I have with this is when do you transition from (3) to (4).

I just tested it out and it even works with lurkers :D
I thought only vult's were able to jump from that being the ONLY unit i've ever seen jump on outsider in a pro game. Seems retarded not to use lurkers when the opponent FEs to their backyard....

|
I just added a youtube clip of how to do this with a worker.

Nice, works great
Thanks.

really? I find it's disitnctively different with a lurker. It's so blatantly easy to hop a vulture with an add-on, motw Outsider will have me doing this every game vs Zerg if I spawn @ 9. Also, Miracle failed 2 times before hopping vs Lux, someone link him to Liquipedia kthx =)

What about Kal vs Thezerg? where he snuck lings into his main with a drone on Holy World? I tried that and I couldn't do it. Is it the same method with every units? Does it also work with more than 1 unit at a time?

I'm not sure what game you're refering to as I can't remember it and TLPD seems to have no records on those two playing on that map. Anyway, along with the ghost the zergling is small enough to have 2 fit into the smallest niche. I tried hopping 2 and 4 but their movements appear a bit random when controlled as a group and sometimes you'll get 3 over, sometimes 1 etc. Alternatively you can hop a single ling/ghost over using the same method as described for the vulture. Then again, a single ling isn't going to do much damage so for scouting you might just as well use a drone as workers are easier to hop. If you want to do some backdoor damage I suggest researching burrow and using that to hop as you'll be able to get greater numbers across.

(This is sort of irrelvant now since newest version of Holy World made it much harder to do this.)

I've been practicing this once for a friendly showmatch on Monty Hall, I've found that (at least for a DT) the right click twice on patch -> spam behind method worked the best.
(1DT spire snipe on monty hall: fun)

It's awesome that stuff like this is still being worked out. I love how the bugs in starcraft become part of the beauty of the game. It's going to be a nightmare for them to program this stuff into sc2 though, if they bother.

Yer ZerO just mamaged to get 3 out of 4 lings over first time and second time wasn't show but he got 6 in total making it worth it if you can pull off the micro. If you simply order the lings to go to the patch the back row ones will hop around trying to get there so you need to manually line them up.

Great writeup, i actually commonly use this when i get 2 scv stuck behind minerals when i block behind mineral line with depots on other maps. I didnt know it was same concept with other units!

will this trick work with battlecruisers too?
