Hey reaper,
you posted a thread a while ago about having trouble against reaver//dt drops when going bamboo.
http://www.wgtour.com/match.php?id=34155&datab=broodwar
i'm spaceballone, the terran in the replay, i'm not the greatest player around and I get raped pretty badly, but even I can stop the dt drop
I think that the gosus (hovz was it?) who said you should say gg and leave when they dt drop u, are assuming that they went DT drop as fast as possible (before kicking your scout out of their base?) but I think that when you scout his base, count the number of pylons he has and stay in his base with your SCV as long as possible, you shouldn't have too much to fear from DT drop anymore..
oh well if my blabbering doesn't help maybe the replay does
|
|
it's an offensive terran style, watch the replay to see how it's done (performed by an amateur)
|
im pretty sure bamboo = 3 fac before expo, could be wrong
|
i thought bamboo rush was the gundam style rush? Few (four) marines tank, vulture and go! Watch the gundam FPS vod from about starcraft, he's got this strat mastered.
|
ChildOfBodom you don`t need to say sorry, every player has the same start, Good Luck and Enjoy ^^
|
He said leave vs reaver.. you have mines that can save vs dt, vs reaver, you're going to lose everything if he isn't an idiot
|
Thanks for the help. The only thing I'm not really sure about was how you knew it was coming. Was his Pylon count low or did you just guess through intuition?
|
|
|
toss was bit inactive and grotfang saw only 2 goons .. i had suspected a drop too
|
Konni is right, you can "feel" (i can't do it very well but gundam can do it almost flawlessly i think) if there is not much resistance and toss just lets you set up your bunker (the bunker is VERY powerful and protoss players know this) then that means he's using his money for a drop or that he's DT rushing, you can see that my second vultures drops his mines very early in front of my base because i'm affraid of just plain dt over the ground
hasuwar, i don't understand, don't you think my defense could have stopped a reaver drop? i'm not that affraid of reavers by the way.. they always end up killing a few scv, but if you split all your scv in little groups there's always a tank that pops out of your fact and finishes the already damaged reaver, and the protoss player will be much less powerful back at his home..
|
dont bamboo unless they expo or you know they are going goon/goon ob for sure its better to just 2 fact expo it can handle dt drop and reaver alot better and ull be way ahead of them when it fails

seems like reaper loses every tvz to mass drop or early guards, and every tvp to something cheesy like reaver, dt, or goon rush
|
bamboo is when you don't wall and i proxy zeal you because i hack

if you notice....
most korean pros block their ramp with 2 probes to not let their build away. However, most non pros dont do this. You get a clear view at their build until about 20 seconds after their first goon is out. This tells you if they go range, if they go fast robo, or what not.
Sure they can cancel whatever they did after they kill your scout, but its not likely. Even if they do cancel, it buys you a bit more time. Regardless, you get a good idea of what they are going to do.
If youre really that clueless on what they are doing, send out a second scv to their minerals (before your first one loses vision of their base) or make your engineering bay outside their base and float in to get a quick view.

Gundam = Bamboo Terran Gundam Rush = Bamboo Terran's Rush -> Bamboo Rush
I think Gundam also does some interesting stuff with taking scvs off gas and whatnot to get stuff out faster, not sure about it though.
|
he sometimes sacrifices a little gas for minerals, that doesn't bring out anything any faster though
|
If you get 15+ scv on minerals, it doesn't matter anymore.

I'm sure NTT would agree with you.

It depends on the player I guess.. if he was a newbie, you might have lived through it I guess. If he was good, I think you would have died. Most players drop 2 zealots with their reaver, and a reaver would have came a lot faster than a 4 dt drop I think. You had a couple mines and a tank.. the tank wasn't even covering the left side of your base, and you would have taken damage, but if he was a stupid player, he might not look for vulnerable spots.
|
Hasuwar, you dont think a good terran player will notice that there are some units missing from his force? or what are the 2 zealots doing at his ramp?
And normally, protoss players dont go reaver if you wall in.
Walling slows down eco a little, but it can be managed..

i think that most of the time the toss goon rushes, he's going dt or reaver, and the rush is to disguise that.

Or buy time

hasuwar you're probably right, i haven't had that much trouble with reavers so far though.. (the way I scouted, my turrets//tank//mines would have been there by the time rvr got there) but I guess if I wasn't covering the left, yeah, damn you've got a point reaver's don't generally make a huge difference though.. if they kill more than 6 scv while you had a tank waiting, you're fucking up i think..
|

wow, I really think you're helluva wrong. I tested it with 36 SCV mining from one main in LT, then with 48 scv mining from one main, and the latter got significantly more $$$.. I did the test twice to make sure i hadn't fucked up too

Ahahahahaahahahahahaha
Btw I dont believe that with 4+ scvs on a patch its not max...
|
hehe mine 2 patches with 3 scv's and you have *just* enough.
15 scv on 8 patches is more than enough obviously no-one will stop building scv when they have 15 on mineral though.
On and grotfang, did you try it 5 times and calculate the average? The difference is probably at the beginning because you gather at different patches or w/e
|
Twisted, no. I tested this also and up to ~28 SCV's gives a reasonable rise in income. After that income still rises, but VERY slowly (per SCV added).
|
it would be nice if you could post more accurate results such as:
minerals gathered per minute with:
13 miners = 3000 14 miners = 3100
and that stuff.... someone plz do it ^-^
|
23 t mins and 3 at gas = pvp. So is it a difference with a svc? And is that the idea after gundam rush?. Getting max mining capacity and the rest units?
|
Twisted, every test i did was with a "fresh" mineral patch on one of the MAIN camps of a wgtour(5) temple
it could have been 2 control groups of scv vs 3 control groups, or 3 control groups vs 4 (i think it was even the last)
and that would make it 36 scv against 48!
I don't remember that well, but it was something like:
group 1: 1000$ mined at xxx time group 2: 1300$ mined at same time
i don't think a 30% or even 20% bonus is small, do you?
BTW: why does gundam attack enemy probes with vultures in a "sneak" move EVERY single game, even if he has so much probes already, if that doesn't affect the p's income? no.. you really get more money from so much scv or probes..

wtf? how does walling slow down eco when the buildings cost the same? will minerals magically appear somewhere else if the buildings aren't walling you in?

he would do that even if it didn't have an effect on the p's income, because it would later in the game when the p has to transfer.

i tested scvs mining before, i dont remember the exact specifics, but it is hella worth it all the way up to 3 scvs per patch and even more after that (i stopped testing because i was only looking into lower amounts of scvs). i might have the actual results in a txt file somwhere. i'll check and add them to this post if i find them.
|
there is no increase in mineral income once you exceed 2.5 workers/patch. period.
walling slows down eco because the worker(s) need to walk there and back. think bigger.
|
~25 is the most optimal situation.

Gundam: 2 facts, 1 fact w/ machine shop add-on. 4 rines w/ 1 vulture and 1 tank with 4 rines and rush.
Bamboo: 2facts both with machine shop add-on. 3 tanks w/ 4 rines and 4 scvs. While you're doing the rush you have mines and speed researching and vultures building.
Are you sure about this? I could have sworn that the term Bamboo came from the fact that Gundam was the Bamboo Terran and thus his rush strat was named after him.
|
|
Bamboo Terran was a term used to describe Gundam's containment style tvp,not a specefic strat/build order.

I would give references it up but old pages is gone.
Gundam spent like year+ developing his almost perfect terran rush. He was nicked "bamboo terran" (can be bent but cant be broken) after his great performance in KoK 2001, where he placed 2nd after beating among others Garimto and Boxer. The unique strat he used is still refered to as bamboo terran or gundam rush.
Boxer himself used the bamboo rush almost exclusively thru SKY 2001, with some twists of course. Bamboo is of course no different than Gundam. Cyric is right.
EDIT: He was probably named "bamboo terran" before KoK, but less info back then
|
How about I simplify this Dont do bamboo if you suck Bamboo should only be done if you have imaculate micro in order to stop those lame drops
and your mcro units should be sufficient to defend vs them with a little static D
