For each Mineral position there is a default behaviour that applies to most maps/positions. So these you can memorize as a general principle. It is important to note though that these vary between the races, so this guide is Terran specific only. | ||

I can tell you that single saturation mining rates between good and bad mineral lines can differ by up to 10%, and it's hard to actually get them equal within about 2%. Even without any serious pathfinding issues differences can easily ecxeed 5%. Terran building a Comsat can lead to up to about 20% losses in efficiency on right side Mineral formations, dependant on the Mineral layout, saturation and use of compensatory building placement. The bottom line is: It is very significant. 2% mining difference over about 3 minutes creates a difference of about 3+ seconds. 3 seconds timing difference for one's first tech building is very noticeable for players. Conversely, optimal worker management at the beginning of the game can probably net you 3 seconds, or more, of timing advantage. AIs, which can constantly micro workers and exploit some game mechanics, can gain even vastly more significant advantages. | ||

 I was just wondering if someone measured the data. Like how much minerals do you actually make more (ratio to time) and how does it snowball for the rest of the game, etc. PS: never thought about the Comsat like that.. crazy thing! | ||
